And why do these facist, gun totting, beer guzzling, country bumpkin KKK members have to be in opposition to secularism or anyone not Christian? Why can't it merely exist on it's own? Or even be in opposition to something else, really?

And such associate themselves with "holy", then turn around and say... "Believe in what I say or suffer for all eternity" before converting or killing those they preach to (all the while, believers are entitled to a free PSP). i will be the first to admit in the thread that yes christianity is a complete utter pile of bullshit for the politics and history that surrounds it, corruptption and greed seem to have weaved it's way into something that was meant to be so pure. i don't condone christianties practice, but it doesn't stop me from beleiving in god. I'm not a "normal" christian by todays standards in any way.
i was raised devoute catholic, had my first communion, and confirmation and thats where it stopped. (sorry this is like my religious history) I stopped going to church BECAUSE of all the shit that it stands for, and has stood for.
But does that make me any less christian...no.
I still pray before meals (not aloud, but in my head). Theres million of those who are less fortunate than me, who don't live in a big house, or a home at all. who dont have food and are starving. and Before you go off on me, i DO sponsor a child in africa, to get schooling and proper medical treatments.
I think that christian morals are a great thing, now im not saying dont have pre marrital sex blah blah blah, becuase then id be a huge hypocrite. Im just saying if you respect your fellow man, no matter what there creed,race or anything else. you'll be well off.. and if everyone took this up slightly i think that the world would be a great place.

Assuming you are serious (which you are not) the problem is hypocrisy, Christianity is f*cking everywhere and too many people claim to be Christians and it is kind of annoying cause well the religion is just blargh shitted onto a book, with guides which nearly ever doctrine have and the only reason it gets credit is because it was recorded and survived (The Christians burnt a lot of the books on the Ancient Gods).

Screw Judeo-Christianity, I would rather worship an old school Nintendo.

Nah I was refering to the fact that people normally just follow Christianity because it is such a worldwide religion, I have nothing against people who follow their religion and are genuine, in fact a lot of my beliefs are similar to the Hindu beliefs ie Reincarnation.

I don't see how "people normally just follow Christianity". Are you implying that most people do this on a global scale, or area-specific? While Christianity is the dominant worldwide religion, it's not so popular in a lot of countries. Iraq for example. I'd be willing to bet about 2% of that country is of the Christian faith, like most Arab countries.

It depends where you were born and/or raised. America has a dominant Christian population of course because most of the early settlers of the colonies were Christian Pilgrims, American Puritans or had some early affiliation with the Church of England. Also during slavery in America it wasn't uncommon for slaves to at least practise their master's religious habits even if he hadn't converted..... all this among many other scenarios have been passed down from generation to generation for the past 230-300 years.

So if you're stating people become Christian by default since they are born in Christian households, then I would agree. At the same time these Christian households are the results of early family religion being passed down, which is very important to some people. It's a little degrading to say Christians simply pick their God, and their Faith due to a lack of options. Don't they have just as much freedom as you to choose not to believe in God?

And I would be an example of what hellbred's talking about. My father's side is (mostly) devout Roman Catholics, while my mother's side is (mostly) Episcopalians. Born into a Christian household, it was all I knew for the first few years of my life, but no one ever forced anything on me. I was never forced to go to church, never forced to read the Bible (though I read it anyway). When I became old enough to really begin thinking for myself (note the word "begin," this was when I was eight), I began to question the legitimacy of a single being with the power to create the cosmos all by itself.

I chose to believe in other things.

Still, there is a point here... not everyone has the luxury of being free to choose. Granted, everyone ALWAYS has a choice in what to believe, but it's not so easy (i.e. "free") for a lot of people to state those beliefs, especially in the home environment.

Over Half the population in the world is not good enough for you?.... ok I kid, you seem somewhat genuine yourself however I say this as there are many options and Christianity is the only one that gets support, also it is one of the few religions who teach that is right and every other religion is wrong which is somewhat annoying.

However I can relate to where you are coming from, I was raised Roman Catholic but through my own life I have chosen my own path, perhaps I blamed it on this during the beginning but I can really relate to beliefs my ancestors believed in hence I carry it on.

Unless..... that's the answer your conjured up, that most people are Christian because their mommy told them to. Also, I'm Christian (if you couldn't tell) and I've never told someone else their religious beliefs were wrong. I've had debates about my points of view and beliefs, yet I've always heard out their reasoning for their thinking as well.

Neither are wrong. Right and wrong beyond common sense is a conjured opinion. I could never make you believe Christianity was the correct path, and you could never make me believe otherwise. Hense, neither of us are wrong, and ultimately neither of us are correct except by our own dimension (which could actually be some kind of odd pysch imbalance lol...).

I guess this is where Christianity is derailed by Radicals, KKK members, christians who blow up abortion clinics, etc. Although I feel it's wrong to push your religious beliefs onto someone else, and never have... the Christian faith calls on Christians to pass on their beliefs, according to our Bible. So it's almost a double edged sword.

Well ok get this. One of my mates started goin out with this chick who was a long time friend. She's really nice, but a devout Christian. So, naturally, he pretty much became Christian for all practical purposes, despite saying he's still Buddhist. He visits her church more often than he goes to the temple, and he partakes actively in their little youth group. So, for all intents and purposes, he's really a Christian.

Then you get the type who just like the whole socializing aspect of the youth group and guys just join a church cuz 'thiner friends are in it'.
