Hmm. I'm finding this interesting right now. I guess it started today, when Xander mentioned that he met Dave lately. I asked him if Dave was different in real life than he was on the Internet and he said no. Is everybody online different to what they're like offline? I've met seven of my friends from the Internet, and Xan and Luke were the only two of those that I got what I expected. Online and offline, they both seem pretty much the same. But the others I've met, I've not really knwon of to expect. Two of the seven that I mentioned were guys I knew years ago and haven't seen them since, but the rest are people I know to this day. So, have you met anyone from the Internet? Were they as you expected they would be? Are you the same online as you are offline? Personally, I'm different. Online I have a more paranoid side, as well as a depressed side that shows really well. Offline, I often keep my depression inside and I can put on a facade. I'm pretty outgoing person and people seem to like me on and offline. Often, I'm myself around my internet friends. But if I'm going on about being depressed or wanting to cut ties, that's my online side overreacting. Real life me ftw. How about you guys?

| The Old Skool Warrior | So, have you met anyone from the Internet? A handful of people, yes. Maybe about half a dozen or so. Some of them I actually found out that I already knew and didn't even know it -- that's always fun. Small world and all that jazz, heh. Were they as you expected they would be? If everything was ever as I expected it to be, the world would be a boring place. But if you want a serious answer, most of them were, yes. I've never met anyone from the internet that I didn't talk to on the phone first (unless you count Omnislash9999, but since he's OceanEyes28's little brother, I don't think it was that important for me to enforce phone conversations). You can tell a lot about people just from listening to their voices in the midst of a conversation. A phone, while still rather impersonal, is far more personal than the internet. Of course, if you're doing voice chats online, I suppose that would be the same idea. Same with video chats, too. But yeah, for the most part, I'd have to say that the few I've met were who I expected them to be. I've been lucky in that regard, because I have friends who have met people who ended up being total scumbags and so on and so forth. Are you the same online as you are offline? Actually, I'm not. I'm more reserved online, if you can believe it. Out in the world of the breathing, I'm spunky, spontaneous, witty, and crude to no end (but only when appropriate!). I talk, I listen, and I'm usually the center of attention -- but if someone else steals the spotlight, I don't get all pissy about it. I'm a huge flirt, and a very physical one at that. I don't know why I get away with it, either... but hey, I'm certainly not complaining about it. In the e-world, I'm a bit more cautious. While I do stay true to myself, I tend to hold back sometimes in fear of actually scaring people. A lot of the things I say and do in person simply cannot be translated over teh intarwebz, so I don't often respond with what I'd like to say, but what would be appropriate to say instead. Granted, there are a few people I talk to online with whom there are no holds barred, but if we're just looking at the general aspect, there you have it.

I should probably add that the people that haven't been as I expected were still great. Particularly one person, who MUCH more than I expected. It's obvious who he is, since he's my boyfriend. He's definately the most fun person I've ever met with from the Internet, and the nicest, as well. I should be visiting him again in March, hopefully, if he agrees to the plans I'm trying to make. I do have a story about scum from the Internet, though. My ex boyfriend Chris. He was a ****er ONLINE and a pretty decent guy on the phone. Despite the fact he was a bit of a big-head and an all-around angry person, he was actually pretty cool on the phone. I guess I got the other way round thing. I'd never meet him in real life, though! Besides, it's been like, half a year since I talked to him anyway. Like I said. I pretty much held a grudge against that guy for all these years.

n/a | So, have you met anyone from the Internet? Yes, one person. She was a friend I had at camp, and then over the years we only talked on the internet Were they as you expected they would be? No, she was alot more bossy and self confident on the internet then she was in real life Are you the same online as you are offline? I am different. I use a lot of hearts and gushy language on the internet and am quite a bit more honest then in real life. | ||||||||

| Blehhhh. | Well, no I've never met anyone from online. Mostly because there's no one around here from Wales. Eh. I'm quite different offline to what I am online, I'm more whiny online LOL. It's true I'm way more whiny than I am in real life LOL. Plus I'm more over-dramatic about things in real life even though I'm very dramatic online too. Plus I cry alot in real life, and I'm not as energeiic at times, where as online I'm always energetic LOL. Yeah. So yeah I'm quite different online and offline but I'm also pretty much the same at times.

| | I've only met one person in real life that I met on the internet. She was actually pretty much the same person. Absolutely out of her mind. She came all the way to NYC from Cali, so it was pretty awesome we got to meet up. I'm pretty much the same. I don't laugh as much as I make it seem like I do when I'm talking online. I say 'haha' a whole lot more often than I actually laugh. But either way, I still laugh a lot and I make the same types of jokes on and offline. So yeah, I'm basically the same person.

| | Meh, personally, I'm more reserved in person than I am online. Online, I get the chance to go back and make sure I typed what I wanted to type, in person, I tend to stammer a lot, mainly because I'm constantly searching for the biggest word possible. I like to flaunt my intelligence ^_^. Online, I prefer to act as though I cast it to the wind most of the time.

300 | So, have you met anyone from the Internet? Do I need to say it ? No.And probably never.Where I am now Living , people do not use MSN but other ways.Like they waste their times using Myspace and Yahoo and whatever I can think of right now.People here aren't HUMANE.Even if I did met one , he would probably just blackmail , insult or even make stuff about me that's wrong. I'm gonna skip the second question. Are you the same online as you are offline? In a way ..... no.I am much different online and offline.Online , I actually take the time to think before I said anything whereas Offline , I aimlessly say what the first thing that passes in my mind. That's what makes the biggest difference between it.I can actually make sure I don't make any mistake in saying something Online whereas I can't take back anything what I said Offline.

| All-range mode! | So, have you met anyone from the Internet? There have been a few instances, I believe. Three people, to be exact, I think. Maybe more, but I don't think so. Were they as you expected they would be? Two of them were. I think this one girl was kind of as I was expecting her to be from talking to her online. This other girl, I could see her acting like she did from the way she talked on the internet, but I got a slightly different vibe from her online than in real life. I think it was because she was a bit more mature than I was expecting her to be. Finally, this other guy was a little different from what I was expecting him to be, although I guess not any more than the second girl I mentioned. Actually, he was a little more like I thought he would be than the second girl. There were certain things he said that would help me match his rl personality to his internet one. Are you the same online as you are offline? It really depends, but I am generally not as talkative in real life as I am online, ever. Most of what I say is to the point, unless I feel really comfortable with the people I am talking to. Like I've said many times before, I'm actually a fairly shy person... in person. It's because if it's the first time I've ever met you, I'm not quite sure yet what to expect from you, or how you'll react to things I'd say or do. Sometimes I can just force myself to be friendly to a certain person when I need to, like when I first went to Yellowstone and needed a friend, or when I was working at Labor Ready and decided that since I would be working with the person for the next several hours or so, I might as well be their buddy for the alotted time. Even in the case of the Labor Ready people, however, I wasn't completely open. I'm also kind of shy the first time I talk to people in chat rooms sometimes, too, strangely. How well I know the person definitely weighs into how much sillyness I will allow out of me. Anyhoo... Wuv, Yer Mom

| | So, have you met anyone from the Internet? Yes. It hasn't happened much, but there have been three that I can think of off the top of my head. All three were girls (imagine that huh?). The first I have no clue how I met. I met her friend first in some chat room or something and we got to talking, and then when she found out I lived in Idaho(this was back when I lived in Idaho) she was like oh my friend goes there every now and then. So naturally I was intrigued. I talked with the girl quite a lot on the phone before I actually met her though, so I dunno, I kinda knew her personality. I hadn't seen her before though, so it was an interesting experience. The other two girls were MySpace dates so to speak (BAD IDEA IF YOU EVER GET IT, TAKE A PASS). One girl messaged me and we got to talking and I decided it might be cool to let her do things to me. Another girl I messaged after I'd been drinking one day and we decided to meet up and hang out for a bit. Both of these last two experiences were terrible and tragic for different reasons. Were they as you expected they would be? No, not really. The first girl looked a lot different than I thought she would, but everything was cool and we even ended up dating for a little bit. The second girl was absolutely nothing like a lot of her pictures (Ever hear of the angles? Yeah, beware of those angles man...) and was very short and well to be rude I'd say rather round. Her personality was also very grating and ick. The overly cheery sort that grinds against your soul with every giggle. She was a bit like that online but even more aggitatingly so offline. The last girl was pretty much what I expected. Only difference was she had short hair and in all the pictures I'd seen of her she had long hair. She was pretty quiet, just about the same as she was online, and real shy. We spent a day together and it went really oddly. Mundane and uneventful. Generally it's a bad idea to try and meet girls from the internet, in my experience anyway. Are you the same online as you are offline? In a way yeah. Online I act like I do around the people I'm comfortable with. In real life I'm terribly shy until I get to know someone, so yeah. With the internet as a buffer though, we get to skip that awkward step. I'm pretty much terribly verbose both online and offline. So yeah I think I tend to act the same. Naturally I'm a bit more forward with strangers over the internet than I am in a face to face setting, but that is to be expected. It used to be worse because when I was younger I was way more introverted. Thus the disparity was greater. But not so much these days. I like this topic. Truth be told there are quite a few people from the internet that I'd absolutely love to meet, namely because there are some guys I used to play Diablo II with for about a year and we're really good friends that actually talk on the phone and such. That and I'd like to meet some TFFers like Taco and Chez. But you guys don't tell em I said that, OK? ![]()

Damn. I'd be beatin down some doors if I were you. Actually I think there are a few TFFers that live around here down in Florida and such. I think I saw one or two that said Jacksonville in their profiles and that's about an hour and a half away (right on the Georgia/Florida border, I am). But I don't really know those people and consequently have not felt compelled to meet them. It trips me out though cuz I go to Jacksonville quite often and the last time I did I wondered if I'd seen anyone from this site and just not realized it. I'd like to think that my fantastic visage is so engraved in your minds that you'd all stop dead in your tracks and recognize me immediately. But I'd like to think a lot of things. ![]()
