Define "Funny"

So, this may seem like an odd question, but... what do you and your group of friends consider to be "funny?" What makes you laugh, and what will earn the biggest laugh among your group of friends? I don't remember if I've posted this before, but I'm posting it now...

In my particular group of friends... we all seem like retards from the outside looking in, probably. Very obnoxious, very bizarre. Very loud too, at times. See, what makes us all laugh is when someone says or does something that is completely over the top or absurd. Like, imagine a really lame joke. If someone delivered it in such an incredibly over the top way, it might earn a laugh. Or if the person ellaborated on it needlessly. We also have this thing where we say someone's name, followed by "first____that comes to mind!" And then they have to do the first thing that comes to mind. The more ridiculous or random it is, the more likely we are to laugh at it. The four which are the most common are "first face that comes to mind," "first sentence that comes to mind," "first word that comes to mind," and "first sound that comes to mind." Random outbursts are also always fun.

So let's give an example. I was sitting with my friend Joel at our friends Rachel and Amanda's house, out in their living room. They have these cylinder pillows that we call "penises." We often throw them at each other or hit each other with them. Once, someone blocked one, and decided that he should be called a "cock block." Anyhoo, I was pointing out to Joel their existence again, and then, in this kind of growling voice, I said "Give me one of those penises!" as I grabbed one and put it between my crotch without thinking about it. Then I realized what I'd done, and threw it at Joel. Joel then was like "Let me demonstrate to you, from a third person point of view, what you just did, Tom." And he repeated what I had done.

As you might suspect, we like Conan O'Brien a lot in this group. We also like really stupid movies, like "Thumb Wars" and "Kung Pow! Rise of the Fist." And, more recently, "The Bench Warmers." Then there's also "Monty Python." ...we're actually pretty much a bunch of weird nerds. Oh well.

Well, with me and my group of friends, what we consider funny is stuff that's completely retarded, making fun of ourselves and eachother, and the phrase "cunt punt". Oh, and Kevin Smith movies are agreed by all of us to be the greatest things to watch while shitfaced.

Oh man.

I have two groups of friends.

One are a bunch of guys that all know each other, and I know them thanks to my boyfriend. They laugh at a load of crude jokes and whatnot, but some of them find silly things, like stupid jokes really funny. Which is good, because I'm able to pull off stupid joke person thing....... we all like to laugh, I guess?.

My other group of friends, are my southern friends, who all live in the London area. These guys will laugh at just about anything. Usually, I'll get into long discussions about how my penis is bigger than theirs, to which they will usually give in in the end. All my friends laugh a lot, pretty much.

I like to talk about my penis.

A lot. And when I do, everyone enjoys the conversation.

...Which is pretty sad when you think about it.

I find a lot of things funny. A lot of may be immature humor..other stuff more intelligent stuff.

Kevin Smith movies are certainly funny
Will Ferrell i think is hilarious (are as a lot of ex SNL stars)
Big Lebowski to me is one of the funniest movies i have ever seen
Standup artists like Jim Gaffigan, Dave Chapelle, even Mitch Hedburg.
Conan O'Brien, certainly hilarious
Steven Colbert, a ****ing riot.

other than that..simple things..i like laughing and have a good sense of humor about a lot of stuff. I'm a stoner, so that of course throws into a whole other sense of things being funny.

For example, i was really high one night but i was with a friend who was trippin on shrooms. there was a group of us chilling together in a room, i was sitting next to my friend who was tripping and when i noticed a moth on the ceiling i took my lighter and lit it on fire. It caught on fire and this ignited moth fell on the lap of my friend who was tripping and he started FREAKING OUT. oh my god the look on his face was one of the funniest things i have ever seen

To some people that might seem not funny at all, but for anyone in that room that happened to see it, we were all cracking up non stop

I think substances in general can usually make things seem really funny whether you are drunk, stoned, tripping or whatever.

I dunno if I could define what I find funny, perhaps somebody could elaborate at the end of this post.

What I don't really find amusing is people who constantly try and sound witty, attempting to bring out the Irony in a situation. I never really find Irony amusing, more of a feeling of interest than anything else. While some generic things make me laugh for the most part it is just annoying. Like I doubt much of you will understand this, but the kvlt kiddies who are always trying to sound evil and satanic whilst funny just look like idiots, yet some Metalheads find them amusing but most people just think they look idiotic.

I find American humour to be pretty much toilet humour or just saying 1 step beyond the next extreme which I find rather bland. British humour is rather differant, its more poking fun at life really, Monty Python is always good for a laugh like on Erik The Viking when that Berserker dude goes Mental at his dad then they reach Valhalla and his Dad goes mental at his Dad, maybe thats when Irony is funny I dunno. Though not as amusing sometimes the UK channel is quite funny. Actually sometimes I find some anime to be quite amusing, just the really stupid parts like for example I have been bored watching Naruto and those little kids trying to hide in that square rock.

When I am with my mates we just laugh at whatever, like suprising I had a Japanese mate when I was younger and he always made fun of the way the local Maori talked and acted (Look up Bro Town on YouTube if you want to see what I mean). Other times we would just laugh at stupid stuff we do like our absurd behaviour when I was drunk or like last night I was in a Classical chat room and we kept bringing up Metal pissing them off. I also found one of my mates had a completely differant sense of humour, like just out of nowhere he'd start cracking up and I had no idea what he was laughing at. But yeah for the most part I think it depends on the mood you are in.

Oh I just remember I had this convo on Skype a week or two ago and we kept going on about this chicks hairy pancake boobies, random nonsense but funny stuff.

Sorry I wrote so much.

It really depends. I have a rather strong sense of irony and sarcasm. I can't help it-I developed it while fighting with my brother. We are both highly intelligent people, so while people might laugh at us as insult comics, by ourselves, we are fairly dry. Everytime I watch House, I think of my brother and crack up.

I find humor that makes fun of things that are true the funniest.

Funny? ermm...well sex is always a great source and then religion is another. Other then that just really seeing and watching people do completly stupid things, or just say or do something which is crazy. There are really to many things which I could say so I'll sum up my definition of funny with this, enjoy!

Bucket of Water

Lazer Cows of Love

Gravity in my Hand

These are some phrases that are the constantly reused by us to continuely mock the person who said the stupid thing to start with. Because most of our jokes are inside joke that poke fun at each other. For example Gravity in my Hand was started by a freind of mine who was noticing that the little strip of plastic that you pull off a piece of lined paper kept on sticking to his hand. Then in an Authoritive tone as if he knew what he was saying was true he said "It the gravity in my hand". We cracked up and ever since we've like pretended to punch him and said "whoops sorry it was the gravity in my hand". Anyway my kind of humour is random stupid stuff like monty python and I actually do find Irony quite funny especially with what happened today, me and my mate neary died laughing.

We went into Mcdonalds where he used to work to get some food and the manager who he knew while he was their came to talk to us. For about an hour. So what happened was she was just standing there talking to us and then she turned around and saw that one of the kids was standing around waiting for something to do, or wasn't sure what he could do. Then she went up to him and said "Can you do something productive?, please" and she came straight back and continued talking to us. The poor kid grabbed a cloth and pretended to be cleaning an already clean counter out of worry and the look on his face clearly said "Stupid Hypocritcal Cow". That one is going to stay in my memory. Lol

The outside observer would probably look at us and wonder what we are laughing at, but many of our jokes have evolved through our 5 or so years of knowing each other and only we get it.

This doesn't define funny, but it's something to consider on a rainy day. My boyfriend and I find it very amusing.

When we're on MSN, we search Bebo and Myspace etc., and have a good online chuckle at some of the retarded things people put in their profiles. Comments such as : 'hw r u???!!!??? I'm Fine!!??????!!!!!!!' Maybe we're just crazy judgemental, I don't know, but it's a really ****ing funny thing to do if you're in the right mood.

What defines funny...it's different between different groups, I think. A group of friends I see every now and then, less since I left school, find anything to do with men being retarded hilarious. My single definition of 'funny' would probably be Have I Got News For You.

Just kidding, it’s really profoundly significant to pretend, which I could mean by pretending to mean this, seriously.

You write like one of those japanese people talking english. You know, with the stupid sentences.

What the ****? I get It, but I don't want to. Because It's stupid.

Back on topic.

I do find those japanese people who try to talk big in english, funny.

So, all kidding not aside, another kind of funny is nostalgic or reference material. Which can be quite amusing, such as game series continuing on certain traditions with certain references and such. It’s always fun to see that when done well, right??

Also, you could add irreverent topics taken to this extent:
