Tried so hard to make a good impression to somebody, that you seem to somewhat do the exact opposite everytime you see them?

Usually, peoples' parents like me. I'm not the type that people really find MUCH of a reason to hate in real life, and so I'm okay in real life.

But it's somebodies' mother.

I try to make the best possible impression to her everytime I happen to see her, but everytime I do see her, I feel like I'm doing the exact opposite.

A buddy of mine (not her son), knows how I feel about this, and he thinks I'm just being paranoid... but I don't know.

Anyway, the question has already been stated:

Have you ever tried really hard to make a good impression to somebody, only to seemingly fall flat on your face and feel like a dumbass about it?

Man all the time. Oddly enough it's more often with like relatives though. Like there was this one time when we were all eating at some restaurant and I kept trying to make some jokes but everyone was just like "..."

Shoot I've been there though. I hate it lol, it's why I hate meeting my friends' parents for the first time and such. I mean most the time they end up liking me I guess but ugh awkward.

I'm usually OK until I get comfortable, then I tend to divulge a weeee bit too much information... usually leading to the inevitable "I... gotta... go... *flee*".

Sometimes I do just fine, though. I'm a pretty easy going guy 95% of the time.

MAN! Yeah! I totally feel you. Once I hang out with someone a few times I suddenly feel it's ok to talk to them about stuff like the more perverse aspects of my sexual fantasies or something along those lines.

Oh well though, serves as a buffer I think. Scares off the ones who can't handle it haha!

It's more the opposite with lil' ol' me. I'm usually shit-faced, shy and bumbling around other humans, yet they seem to like me all the same.

Well hell if you're shy, bumbling, and shit-faced then you sound like tons of fun. No really I'm being serious here, speaking as someone who has definately been shy, bumbling and shit-faced in his lifetime.

Yeah, I'm the same. Wen I first met my best friends parents I sh*t myself. But seriously, they were strict! And I felt like I should be mature around them, becoz genuinly, I am very immature! I tend 2 embarress my friend a lot too, so she was worried as well. But wen I got the feeling that I was tryin 2 hard to act grown up, I stopped and started to act how I normally do, and then they totally fell in luv with me! It's still a mystery of how sum1 who is mature and wealthy would find a young person who acts stupid*Me!* a good person who is like them, coz I'm nothin like them!

That's the thing.

My best friend knows my parents well and I know his well. Hell, our families love each other. But it's another friend, closer than my best friend.

I'm okay with his stepfather, I think. But I get so nervous whenever his mother talks to me or sees me. I know this sounds pathetic, but I don't feel like I can wear tight clothes or a skirt when I'm around her, because I feel like she'll think I'm somekind of slutty person. I'm not, but... I'm female and I like to wear skirts and tight jeans sometimes.

And I feel I need to sit up straight and refer to her as ma'am.

I just don't know what she thinks of me. It's a little scary. ^_^;;.

One time, I had dinner over their house, and it was all about "Table manners"! Her mum kept sayin "Could u plz put ur elbows down?!" And then I hesitately put them on my lap and I was dyin 2 just leave coz she just shouts at u with a harsh tone...creepy! And also I'm left handed, and she said" U've got ur knife and fork in the wrong hands...switch them round plz." but luckily my friend stuck up for me and told her I was left handed, she apologised then! I was dyin to say "Haha! U got it wrong!" LOL...yeah...friend's parents are hard to co operate with...LOL.

I felt that way many times when I was a teenager. Meeting your best friends parents and/or siblings can be so intimidating! But it always worked out to where we became more like extended families instead of just friends. And after over 25+ years, we still are family. Then when my son would bring friends over to meet me, I could see the worry or fear in their eyes wondering if I was going to like them or not. But being the kind of person that I am, I never judged my son's friends on their appearance, which is what worried them the most. Everyone is unique in their own way, and I can say that even though they were all worried as many of you do, I love them all as my own. But back to the original question, yes I think we all have at one point in time.

when ever i try to make a good impresion i mean whenever, i make the total oposite impression on the person. sometimes i make a good impresion for a few days then i start acting like myself or going over board thus barrying the good impression with a lot of bad ones. but when it come to making good impressions on adults i can usually do that. i wonder why i can leave a good impression on adults but not my fellow classmates? (not saying i dont have freinds because i do)

That's one of those universal laws. If you are trying to impress someone everything will go wrong. The harder you try, the worse things get. I always try to stay relaxed and be myself. If they don't like me then that is there problem. I would classify myself as a decent asshole. Decent meaning I am genuinly a decent person but I can sometomes come across as cocky or a ****. But usually I am only like that once you already ralize how much of a cool person I am.
