I didnt know where to put this thread so I shoved it in here.

What is your opinion on sex education where you live?

I think sex education in england is well...CRAP.
You get told the basics in year 7 which I didnt understand basiclly because we had to watch this video of showing a woman naked and a man, which I thought was digusting, as I'd never seen anything like that. Then in year 9 - 10 they shove you in a room to watch videos of what looked liked mild porn. And you get took to this place where you look at a vagina and diseases and showed once to put a condom on in 2 minutes.
Its patheic! You dont get taught anything about love, friendship, feelings...
Plus England has suppose to have the highest youngest pregancy's in europe! No wonder, I had to learn all what I new through adivce on the internet or through experience.

I think that Britan should teach sex like the dutch. They teach sex education from primary school as young as 4. But its not like showing them videos of sex, when they are that young it all teaching them of love and telling the differences between love and friendship, and the difference between being in love and to love something, as in chocolate. I watched a programme named 'LETS TALK ABOUT SEX' and that agreed with my view and gave me facts between the two countries.

Well whats your opinion?

Agreed.

I remember a trip I have and they showed us all these viginal and penis diseases it like "I've just had my lunch".

In primary school, back in year 6 they showed us this real like 1970's film and it had real cheesy crappy jokes in it like "So you see, a woman has 2 holes downstairs instead of one. Talk about terrible.

I agree with the Dutch in teaching the difference between love and friendship because that is essential.

Ironic how Burnley has the highest underage pregnacy rating in Lancashire..hey, Sam?

Yes very ironic maybe cause in school our sex education was crap i just hope now theyve named it a different school and different teachers that the sex education they recieve is much better than what we both got from towneley

I say it's just fine, because it is what it is. sex education. It's not love education. It's not friend education. It's not relationship education. It's sex education. So they're just teaching you about that topic, and that topic only.

You don't need to be taught all that other stuff. That's what your parents are for.

I mean, you're lucky to even be watching softcore porn in school, and even seeing nude bodies. Over here in the good ol' US of A, we never got any of that. We don't even have sex education at all. At least I didn't when I went from 7th-12th grade.

I doubt the sex education has gotten any better, it would take years to made videos, websites & other useless propaganda to actually make you think sex is funny rather than be serious about STD's, Pregnancy ect.

I cannot believe the video he had to watch at the end of Year 11, you remember Mr. Stone? He'd stick them on because they were funny.

They were, but that's besides the point.
Sex education should seriously improve in this country.

Sure, the way it's displayed isn't exactly pleasant, but y'know what? It gets the job done.

People in this country don't spare the time of day to learn about the intricacies and the nice things about love and sex. And so you have to find out what it means for yourself.

Life is tough, and you'll have friends and family to help you. But only you can discover what love is. I believe it has differences for everybody. Undefined.

Yes but also it is not complusroy in england. And from high rates in egland it needs to improve. I understand that you said 'Thats wat your parents are for' but most people are embrassed about talking about sex or sexual pleasure to there parents. I would be to embrassed and I think my parents would be too to talk about sex education to me.

I wasn't talking about sex to your parents. I was talking about friendship and that stuff. Sheesh. I thought my post was clear enough. oO;

But anyway.. yeah, sex to your parents is awkward. But friendship and all that, is not. =P

Lol living in england and only in Yr 10 in our school they just threw a book infront of us and got told to read and answer the questions and these questions answered nothing fortunatly Im not stupid so I was ok......

Well, they have good sex ed here, but I disagree with teaching it as young as four. They explain to toddler's that the guy must insert penis here? I've seen their wee books. It's sick I tell you. SICK. 12 and up, when the subject emerges, should be when a child is slowly emmersed into ed.

Whoa... i'm from England, but maybe my school teaches it a different way. I remember in year 4 picking up a book in the libery as i wasn't feeling well and it was called "how I was made". It was very basic, and it basically said stuff like "mummy and daddy have a big cuddle and get very close". No graphic images or anything! It was later in year 5 we were taught the birds and the bees in basic form, nothing explicit. Year 6 came onto cartoon videos.

It wasn't until year 10 when we got shown photos of people (mainly men) with STIs... my mind has never been the same sinse. 0______o

Anyway, my schools taught it well. Its not exactly Britain's education system thats wrong, its the schools and possibly the town councils which teach it. I come from a small town near enough in the middle of the countryside. People like me are exposed at a young age to "sheep giving other sheep piggyback rides" and rampant New Forest ponies! I guess you city kids dont get that "pleasure"!

Nothing very interesting over here. They start in grade four, watching videos titled 'learning about your body' and 'what's happening to me?'. I think in grade seven we had sex ed every week for a couple of months or something like that, and basically it was just some random teacher with diagrams out the front of the class calling out 'this is where babies come from' while most of the class chucked around paper aeroplanes. I don't have many memories of sex ed..um..I remember some kid stole condoms from the teacher once and blew them up and chucked them around the class to play 'keepy-uppy' with..And we also had to watch a video of some woman giving birth...One girl actually ran out of the class and made a vow never to have kids XD. Anyway, that's about all the sex ed I can remember. [w00t! my three-hundredth post!]
