Do you ever think something is really awesome, then find that the majority of people think it is really stupid? Then, when you go to find out why they think it is stupid, it's for the very reasons that you like it so much? Or maybe it's just the view of someone you find highly respectable. What is your reaction, then? Do you ever think "gee, maybe they're right about this...?" Or do you say "I don't give a shit. Fuck them. Fuck that noise."

I've come to terms with the fact that a lot of people will not like some of the things I like, like the band They Might Be Giants, or fantasy stuff, or what have you, because it's so friggen' wierd. I happen to like weird, however. Sometimes, I think something is great for its uniqueness and wierdness, and then I hear that people don't like it because of that uniqueness and wierdness, and I just don't get it. What annoys other people, I think is really entertaining. Like this video, apparently. I think the dancing people are really funny. I also liked the character designs in Final Fantasy 9, while a lot of people thought they were too silly, or something. I thought the character designs were charming in comparrison to the "normal," boring human designs in FF8. I also really like ska music, although I think a lot of people couldn't accept it because of the horns and the silly lyrics and such of some of the bands. I dunno why people didn't like it, actually, but it was mostly in great contrast to the depressing nu-metal, that was popular at the time (talkin' about the late 90's, when ska was big for a little while.)

A lot of times, though, I can see where people are coming from when they criticize something I like, although I wouldn't have thought of the criticisms they made before they made them, myself. A lot of times another opinion can slightly, or greatly, change my own. Like reading movie reviews. I'll think really highly of a movie, and then I'll read a critic's review, and be like "yeah... I can see that... that was kinda cheesy..." and then be less enthusiastic about a movie than I was before.

How often does this occur with you? How often do you love something, and then hear that the majority of people didn't like it? Name some of the things this has happened to you with. Then tell your ratio between saying "yeah, I can see where they'd think that..." to "I don't give a shit." Class... you may now begin!

I know exactly what you mean, like when I see something and think man thats cool and everybody else is like... I guess its alright. It happens all the time with my music, I absolutely love the band Ensiferum and never ever would have considered them to be cheesy until somebody mentioned it to me. Also a lot of people say bands sound very similar but I listen and notice where they are coming from but I can clearly distinguish the differances.

American humour is one thing I will never understand, what the hell is with the chuck norris thing? It's not even funny so just stop it seriously. Black Humour? Its just ranting about racism, its not that funny... sure sometimes they crack a good joke but the most of it is just stupid attempts and pointing out the obvious irony. Also why are there so many CSI/SVU/Law and Order hospital/cop drama shows? What exactly is so interesting about them that they have to put 5 differant shows on everynight? Seriously tell me... ? And the cartoons, are they meant to be funny or just stupid? Cause in my opinion Japanese Anime is funnier and I don't even know if they are trying to be. Only american shows that I have found to be amusing is Family Guy and ... thats become quite bland now. British Humour >>>> American Comedy all the way.

Also on here when I post something I put what I am trying to say out there very clearly yet they completely miss the point and like to pick at the parts which I only briefly mention only so I have all my bases covered before they try to argue my point, I am not trying to sound like I know everything but in fact I normally have given them an answer before they even questioned it. I have my opinion like everybody else, I try not to sound too forceful but when somebody completely ignores the whole point and quotes me its just annoying and proves they're idiotic. But in general I try and interpret what they are saying, like with your post I am giving my thoughts, but at the same time I am giving my opinion trying to explain something which also happens to be something I've had on my mind for a while, I am sure I am refering to what you mean but perhaps this is just another stupid ironic twist

I've had this on various occassions throughout my life. I seemingly stretch to meet their point of views, and I can definately compromise, but in some cases, I'm just not likely to change my opinion. I try my hardest to respect all opinions and all views, but there's still the point of being yourself and liking what you like.

Anyway, as almost everyone here knows, my favorite band of all time is 311. I've been a huge fan since 1994, and will continue to be until I die, but most people I come into contact with despise 311... most of them have only heard their softer songs and automatically give me the "OMGZ 311 IS POP YOU TIMBERLAKE FAIRY" routine.
