Steve Irwin Dead

Steve Irwin, also known as the Crocodile Hunter died during a filming of an underwater documentary at Port Douglas this morning. He was killed after a stingray barb stung him through the chest.

I was never a particular fan of Steve Irwins but he was a fairly well known Aussie Icon.

Sadder thing is his wife is currently climbing in Tasmania and cannot be contacted at the time. The whole dammed country knows before her. Just sad.

Guess he knew the risks of what he did but always though it would be something bigger than a stingray.

Yeah, it's horrible. He was an Australian icon and died doing what he loved. I feel very sorry for his family.

As much as I didn't like him, I never wanted to see him killed by anything. I actually thought he would have been killed by a Crocodile or a snake. My dad always said that something would get him in the end.

Yeah its playing on the news right now. He was also quite popular across the ditch as well, it is no suprise that he got killed doing what he loved. I didn't really watch his shows either but never the less shit happens, RIP.

Oh yeah, I just heard on the news that Terry has been contacted and knows about what happened. I still feel so sorry for his children! The little girl was very close with him. A very sad thing indeed. I heard also that being killed by a stingray is a very rare thing to happen. He was probably annoying it or something. Still it would have been a horrible way to die.

Steve Irwin was the man. I semi grew up watching him (at least from my Middle School years through my High School years.) I too thought he would've died by a snake or a big lizard. I do feel really sorry for his family, too, and wish the best for them. Damn, that sucks

i was so bloody shocked. it was going through the whole school, but i really didn't even believe it until my mother called me and told me. i was so bloody upset.

my first thought was: the poor kids. three and seven years old, so sad.

I grew up watching that guy.
He was always so happy.
I heard from a friend. I didn;t believe it at first.
It's super sad.

But, if your Steve Irwin... thats the way to go.

wow, I diddn't really think of this guy that much. I used to watch his tv shows where he helped out animals. it's a shame he died the animals will miss him.

You beat me to it, I was going to post a thread about this.

I do indeed think its terrible what happened, as Steve Irwin was a great wildlife researcher who had a real passion in his interests. Being a nature lover and environmentalist myself, it is sad to see such a great contributor to conservation and awareness to die, and especially at such a young age of 44. The fact he has a wife and two young children makes the matter even worse.

The fatality while filming, was one of only a few deaths by stingray attack, and I agree with Lady Luck, that if he did get killed by a form of animal, I would of expected it to be a reptilian. At least he was doing what he loves when it happened.

As a kid I used to love his programmes.

'Mr Stainton said Irwin had gone “over the top of a stingray and a stingray's barb went up and went into his chest and put a hole into his heart”.'

It seems a strange way to go, but I guess after all the dangerous stuff he's been doing through his life, not so strange.

I've been looking at this topic for over four hours trying to figure out what to say, and the bottom line is that I just don't really know.

I generally don't tend to care when a celebrity passes away (they're people too, and people die... it's sad, but we move on), but Steve Irwin was one of the rare lot that actually meant a little something to me. He was a funny guy. Like many of you, I practically grew up with the guy. I watched his programs all the time. He was funny, and pretty damn brave, too, to do some of the things he did.

I will say this, though. What better way to die than by doing the things you love? An honorable death for the man, that's for sure.

OMFG! Steve Irwin, (Crocodile hunter) died. got killed by a Stingray, of all the people who I expected to die he was the least. I always joked around and said, Imagine if he died, but I never expected anything like This To happen, I'm deeply saddened by it,

This is one of the things that no one ever sees coming. I'm not much for celebrities either but Steve was famous for doing something good in the world, and I think that's what makes such a difference. It's really disheartening to lose him, but at least he died doing what he loved.

I guess in the end was kind of ironic...heh. I mean, he spent most of his life tackling these giant animals, and then he gets killed by something way less feirce. It's still pretty sad, but I was never the greatest fan.

I'm not particularly upset about it. I heard it from a BOD buddy (Leviathan). And I googled it up and whaddaya know. I come to TFF and see a bunch of threads.

..........Crickey was a seriously comical name for that other thread. >_>
