Does your hair-style have an impact on your personality?

I've wondered about this for a while, and from what I've seen whenever someones hair-style goes through a bigger change then just getting it trimmed up or something they usually seem like a totally different person in the way they act. I'm just wondering if I'm crazy or if i'm not the only one to see this happen.

I think that more so then your personal feelings about yourself it changes the feelings of those people around you. For example you are treated very differently if you have a crazy hairstyle than if you are clean cut. I know it sucks but try to get a job with a hippy style haircut. I have found time and time again that

police men, bosses, mothers with children, and pretty much everyone else treat you differently depending on your appearance. Don't believe me try piercing your nose and then trying to get a job as an accountant.

That's true I am just saying that I do believe that getting your hair styled in a unique or different way does change who you feel that you are (It's like dressing differently, driving a nice car, or having an attractive girlfriend) All of which can change your personality and make you feel different about yourself. It changes who other people think you are even more.

I don't think so. Of course you get the sterotypical people who have their hair cut in a certain way to fit in with a theme or trend, however I feel that people like that don't have securre personalities. I had my hair cut a little differently today, but that won't change me as a person. If somebody has short dyed-black hair with an eye-covering long fringe, this does not mean that they will turn into a mourning, miserable emo. Neither does somebody shaving off their hair make them become a chav or a pimp. Getting a moheican wont make you have a wild personality either.

I say, you are who you are. Your personality is determined through your childhood and early teenhood by your natural nature, the environment, and the people around you. People may judge you because of the way you look, but that is human nature. Changing your appearence does not change your personality. If your personality changes, it is because of changes in lifestyle and perceptions on things, not your appearence or hair-style that changes it.

Hm.

I hated people when my hair extended beyond my shoulder blades. I hated people when my hair extended slightly below my ear lobes. I hate people now that my hair is some bastardized version of a "crew cut", military bullshit hairdo.

The only drastic personality change, and I say drastic only because I do not have an exact personality per se, is after my freshman year in high school. An event that had nothing to do with the length or style of my hair had me change from a semi-extroverted social butterfly to an extraordinairely introverted, anti-social and somewhat socially inept individual.

I do not believe hair changes you personality. The situation FFX_FFX-2Aholic described was due to her brother changing his taste in music. His personality and hair style changed because of that, not vice versa. I'd also assume that he started hanging out with a different group of people, which would be another reason for the change. Basically, personality changes occur when the influences of any given person change. Even the most individualistic of people change when they start befriending people that are into different sorts of things.

I change my hairstyle every six-ish months.

Why? I get bored with my hair really easily. I'm the type of perosn who never gets bored of things, but my hair, I MUST CHANGE CONSTANTLY.

I've had it longer than shoulder length, down to my breasts, curly, spiky short, and I currently have it below my shoulders, then it gets shorter at the back. (FUnny enough, I'm getting it cut chin length and dyed blonde soon). I also dye it a lot.

Does that mean I have a crazy and varied personality? Yes. Actually, it does.

My hairstyle does dictate who I am. Because I love to change it and I love being a varied person.

My hairstyle does not effect my personality. My personality effects my hairstyle.
I have been the same person since I can remember, and I am not the type of perosn to change my persnality. Because I HATE personality changes. There are just LOADS of hairstyles I see and like, and so I grow or cut it and dye it whatever colour I want.

My appearence means a moderate amount to me, but I like to make my hair look spunky and different. But that's just me.

I reckon that's how it is with most people. People don't change their personality to suit their hairstyle, they change their hairstyle to suit their personality.

Like me, I've gotten more laid back recently, so I'm growing my hair long, instead of having it cut short like before.

wow, I thought I was being crazy. my best friend's girlfriend (also my good friend) got her haircut. She does look pretty good. But ever since, she's being a total bitch to me, and I don't know why. I thought "hang on?"... "she's been weird ever since she got that hair cut".

Well, of course having your hair cut a certain way may have you act differently, but as said it doesn't really infect your personality. Chez pretty much hit it on the spot. It's your personality that effects your hair-style. Same thing goes for your clothing, what types of places you go to, how you effect the people around you. You'd pretty much join the ignorant stereotypic contradictors if you started labeling people because of appearance. My friend has a sort-of emo haircut, but all my friends know he isn't emo, he just has a job, lol. Though people shouldn't get into fashion trends, if you want to look a certain way, do so, don't moronically try to fit in. "If I look like this maybe people will accept!" It's a matter of self-esteem and your personality. Both conflict with your style of fashion. Like myself, I don't change my style for anyone unless it's a good compromise or something I really need. Yet even so, I still do it in a way that reflects my personality.

i dont think your hairstyle affects you, i think you affect your hairstyle... i mean if your happy, you might spike your hair, if your sad you might wear it long... i know i like my hair short, im kinda an outcast, and i wear an outcast style....(everyone has really long hair around here)

I have long hair, it's a hazel colour with light blonde parts at the ends(nothing noticable), I often get labelled as a "Grunger", "Goth" and "Mophead", I never take notice but I hate to label myself so I label myself as me and me only. I think im getting it cut in a few weeks though.
