To start my topic off by grabbing your attention...

HOT-TOPIC IS NOT PUNK ROCK!!!!!

There we go. Anyways..im sick-and-tired of people saying their "Punk-Rock" because they shop at Hot Topic all the time..im mean seriously.

1. Rob Zombie lunch boxes are not punk rock.
2. Slip-Knot is not punk rock.
3. Megaman T-shirts are not punk-rock.

thats kinda of idea where this thread is going..give reasons why Hot topic is not punk rock. id post more but im tired..so yeah..
also if you disagree with me. go ahead and post why you think so, so i can have a good reason to totally ignore/yell at you. lol jk..but seriously if you disagree post why. and if you agree post why.

Edit: because some people are totally misundertsanding my post.
I dont hate hot topic or the stuff it sells in there i rather like it. What im getting at is I hate people who shop there once or twice and then they're always blathering about how they're so "Punk-Rock"

Okay...I disagree with you, mainly because punk-rock, in my opinion, is absolute shit. Now, I'm not saying I don't hate the people that listen to it, and I respect their difference, but just... no, I hate the music and genre. With vengence.

Hot Topic is more of an emo meets goth place. And to me, emo and punk are just the same thing. Why? Well, appearence-wise, what is the difference? Really? I mean, hello, they both wear stupid Green Day t-shirts, the women wear leggings so tight they show off the cellulite, the males were three quarter length trousers that are so tight they restrict the reproductive system to the point where conceiving is almost impossible...

In any case, this has grown off-topic, so I will say this;

I respect your opinion, but I disagree with you. (Reasons above, don't skip my post, read it.

As for this topic, ahh.... we'll see. I don't see any reason to close it yet, but I'll be watching it.

I usually don't shop at Hot Topic, so I'm not really informed on the matter. And I really don't see the reason to get hyped up about it. If they want to dress that way and call themselves punk rock, I do not care. I think it's silly, but at the end of the day, different things are important to me. So I don't suppose I agree with your ah.. enthusiasm. But I can agree on how buying clothes from one place does not define your taste in music.

PUNK is great. POP-PUNK is awful.

I'm probably gonna get my ass chewed out for this but I like Hot Topic. True, it isn't punk-rock at all, and anyone who thinks shopping there signifies their punk status is a douchebag. Hot Topic is just a store where you can find stuff Wal-Mart won't carry. It's as simple as that. It's not punk, it's not emo, it's not anything but a good goddamned store.

Punk Rock these days is pathetic, REAL PUNK IS The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Ramones, Xray Spex, Television, The Adverts, IT IS NOT Slipknot, Fall Out Boy, Taking Back Sunday, New Found Glory, Incubus etc. There is a difference between Punk and Punk Rock.

Me too, actually. I go in there from time to time to look at their video game T-shirts. They have fun stuff that reminds me of my youth. I'd love to see a Fox McCloud t-shirt in there some day.

To clarify, I'm not too worried about being called punk rock or not. I just like the music, and I wanted to clarify that people who are considered to be punk rock don't wear a set style of clothing. They diversify. Broaden their boundaries. An' shit.

...ok...I never said i didnt like Hot Topic, actually i rather like it although i hardly ever go to the mall so i never really go there anymore either.

Ok, to start off, I will say that Hot Topic is not a "punk rock" store. infact, most of the punk-rockers that i know shop at thrift shops or just normal stores(IE: whatever they can afford which usually isn't much). Hot Topic does sell some things that could be considered "punk-rock", but then again, I've found things that could be considered "gothic" at freakin goodys.

Hot Topic sells alternatively designed clothing in my point of view. There is not set group that wears the clothing, but rather a stereotype of who the clothing is designed for.

I hate it when people stereotype things like clothing. IT'S CLOTHING!!! It's not like stores will only sell to one group of people or other groups of people aren't allowed to wear a certain thing. Why must people think that?

I know a bunch of people who shop at Hot Topic, but most of them only because it's considered "cool" or "rebellious" or whatever else. I, however, shop there(not so much anymore as I do not have hardly any money to purchase anything but the bare necessities) because I like the clothing. I like the styles they have. I was never considered "cool" because of the clothing... infact most people thought I was wierd and needed to be hurt... but I still bought them because they were what I wanted. Sure I bought other stuff too. I didn't just buy that type of clothing.

Point being, people stereotype too much. That is why we have this thread... because peope have stereotyped Hot Topic as being "punk-rock" when it's just another clothing store. (sorry for the long rant... just had a lot to say about this)
