Coke vs Pepsi, Part 2:Electric Boogaloo
Okay, so I was leafing through the other Coke vs Pepsi thread, and I figured that it would be interesting to see what everyone calls these beloved carbonated beverages. Is it soda, pop, or just plain coke? Are there any other names for it?
Basically, list where you're from and what you call it. It might be fun to see if stuff like region affects what people call things. Anyways, I'm from Queens, NY and I call it soda. Your turn.

Well, in English I just call it coke or soda even it isn't right name to it. (I studiet french and soda in France mean juice that have carbones (or something))
But in Finnish, language of Finland, 'Coke' is 'Kokis' and 'soda' is 'limsa'. So, in Finland those are KOKIS and LIMSA. |

I typically call it by whatever brand name it is.. Mountain Dew, Pepsi, whatever. If I am generalizing, I will say soda. I find the word 'pop' disturbing and frankly old-fashioned. I believe 'pop' is used more in the Western states, perhaps Northwestern states than anywhere else. Of course, its been a while since I heard that particular fact so it might not be entirely accurate. In any case, down here in the Southeast, we say 'soda'.

Merlin, haha. I know a young man who uses the term "pop" for his "soda" drinks.
In England, we call "soda", "soft drinks" and "fizzy drinks"...I usually call it by it's brand, or if I want to sound like a **** head "fizzy beverage"... I find the latter brings me many confused looks from people. So yeah. I usually, personally name it from the brand.

I'm from the dead center of Illinois (Peoria) and most people here just call it "soda". Up in Chicago and nearby towns, alot of people call it "pop", though. I'm not sure why.
I'll admit that it does get on my nerves to hear it called "sody pop", though. For some reason, it drives me up the ****ing wall.

Yeah, I think for the most part, it's called soda in the Tri-state area. However, I know that in Buffalo, which is up by the Canadian border, it's called pop. It irks me.
I've also heard a story about some area where any and all soda is called Coke, and these kids went to a restaurant and asked for Coke (meaning Coca Cola). The waitress asked them what kind, and went through the list of sodas, including root beer and orange soda. Oh, and darkvivi, I hate to break it to you, but Ecks and Jew have the banned record. Mike's banned Jew maybe 25 times in a night. Sorry buddy.

...URGH! I have no idea why. But it's another good reason to thank that i don't live in America. Instead, I just have to put up with "fizzy drink". ![]()

Here in Oregon, we drink "pop." Or "soda." Or sometimes... *looks at Chez and Hollow Point with a devilish grin* we even call it "sodie-pop." Except not really. I've only heard it called "sodie-pop" once, and I think as a joke. I was washing this guy's semi truck and its trailors, and he brought me a bottle of coke and asked me "Want a bottle of sodie-pop?" and I was like "sure."
I'm not really sure what we call it here anymore. I hear it called all types of names. However, one of the first times I went down to California, one of the kids at the youth group my brother and sister in law used to teach at asked me "what would you call a pepsi?" and I said "uh... soda?" and my brother was like "no you don't! You call it a pop!" and the kids laughed at him. So I guess I'm supposed to call it "pop" up here. Heh. That's generally what I probably call it when I don't think about it, anyway. If you don't like it, you can go... jump in a lake. Wuv, Yer Mom

I'm from southern cali and I usually call it soda. Still sometimes I like to call it a carbinated beverage because that just seems so much more descriptive.

Soda.
I am originally from southern California and we call it soda. When I lived in Oregon and heard someone call it "pop" for the first time in my life, I was very confused. I looked at them and asked for an explanation. After they gave it to me I told them that it was the stupidest thing I had ever heard and that they should go to hell. I yell at people who call it "pop". I seriously cannot stand it. Washington State goes either way, calling it by either name. In Maryland I hear it called soda, mostly. But seeing as I live on a Navy base and there are people from all over the country, I hear "pop" every once and awhile. The guy from Chicago calls it pop. But yeah, I call it soda. |

I'm in Canada, and it's called "Pop" when you're generalizing all carbonated drinks. Then you can get your specifics, like Pepsi, coke, Root Beer, etc etc etc.
Okay, why is it disturbing to call it pop? Men having sex with babies is disturbing. ![]() On that same vien though, there's alot of weird things I've heard of people over in Britian call the stuff we have. Could be out-dated though. Funny how we all have different ways to call stuff.
