Myspace Meetings

Has anyone ever met someone from myspace that's not fom TFF? My friend is meeting this guy she met from myspace, he's from Ohio and he's coming all the way to Massachusetts to see her. He's originally from Mass. Anyway, I'm a bit scared for her.

She is crazy about him and he has to meet her mother before they go hang out and do whatever. But he does look like one of those characters from a movie that beats his girlfriend. I don't know how to explain how he looks this way, maybe its the jock look, i'm not sure. I'm also trying not to stereotype him but I just did. Am I just overreacting? I don't want to tell her "Oh I don't think you should meet him cause hes from the internet" but shes extremely happy and i'm happy for her.

They just haven't known each other that long. I guess they will know more of each other when they meet, but I just need advice. Maybe i'm overreacting. If it were me i'd have a friend go with me.

Hmm... it could be a little funny (not in the haha way) meeting with someone from myspace. He could be a really decent lovely bloke as I do know of people who have had succesful internet relationships (not people on myspace though). However, it could be a bad thing. I think you are worried for her from the point that this kind of myspace dating has opened up bad problems. As a friend I dont blame you for being worried.

If they are meeting publically, maybe discuss with her that you and a few other friends will hang around in the background just incase anything happens. Tell her you are happy for her, but as a friend you care about her and want to make sure shes ok. Go about this nicely to her and she should understand.

Unfortunately she already met him. Thanks for replying. I guess he was supposed to meet her mother first, which eases me a bit. If I was her i'd have my friends with me. She has been meeting tons of people from myspace though, but she really likes this guy, even though shes known him for such a little time. She probably made out with him today, she always rushes into relationships. She always is like "I won't do this nexttime" and she does, that's probably why i'm worried. I do not want her to get her heart broken once more.

Well I'm glad things worked out okay. But if you read online safety guidences, one is 'Never meet a person in real life whom you first met online'. Just keep that in mind, if I were you I would be worried too. I don't think you were overreacting, you were being protective.

I've met tons of people on myspace, and honestly, it's really no different than meeting IRL first. They could be lying or decietful just as easily both ways. Fortunately for me, I've only had one bad experience on myspace, and she wasn't really that bad... just persistent XD. Chances are your friend is gonna be OK. If she rushes into things, it's her own fault, as mean as that is to say.

Haha. I've met so many people from MySpace, It bothers me. Usually, It'll be coincidence, and they'll just recognize me and say hi. I've only organized 2 meetings, the rest were just good accidents. I hooked up with those 2 girls too. Yes, don't organize anything unless you know you're going to get some.
