Being Sick!!!

OMG, Soo I hate being sick other then the fact that your body lets you sleep for 14 hours at a time. It certainly does make me feel a little better though. That and your roommate does nice things like buys you white bread cause you texted him from your room, and he is in the living room, and you give him your grocery list. It is brilliant. That and he buys you the panda chocolates that are really nummy. I swear its just like having your mum there.

So I just hibernate and eat sweets . What do you do when sick?

When i'm sick I curl up in bed with a hot water bottle and a glass of water to keep me hydrated. I try to have a large Vitamin C intake to speed my recovery, done by drinking cranberry juice and having soup. If its astomach bug, which I rarely have, eating dry toast (no butter or toppings) helps absorb moisture, and for period pains eating chocolate does the trick!

I'm not ill at the moment, but I do have a septic thumb. Its swollen, pulsating and full of puss, part of it has gone green too. When I first saw the colour change I was like "wow! my thumb is now my favorite colour!" But its eewy so I went to get some antibiotics for it yesterday.

Hmm... i've never had chicken soup when i've been ill. Mainly because I hate meat soup and never eat it anyways. I find the nice vegetarian tomato-based soups like minestrone to be good as it has lots of vitimin C to help the immune system. Tomato and vegetable soups are good too.

I find myself watching easy-viewing tv, like cartoons and anime good, since the colourfulness and animation relaxes me. I dont take too many painkillers either. Infact, I rarely use them. I find that a hot water bottle helps soothe the pain, and snuggling into a nice warm, comfy bed is great. You cant over-do it with TV though. Infact, I sleep morethan anything.

Good advice though, is even if you arent hungry, try to eat something and drink water often.

I do what I usually do when I'm well. I try to take my mind off the fact that I'm sick, and eventually, I get better. I do load up on pills, but I usually do that anyway.

A few months ago, I got really sick. I slept almost all of the time and felt like shit. I couldn't talk for about half a month... It sucked.

Bunny jumps rope with Freya - (lv 5)Bunny jumps rope with Freya - (lv 5)Bunny jumps rope with Freya - (lv 5)
I go to work when I am sick, just as I do when I am healthy. I may or may not try to get the day off, or maybe cut out a little early if it is okay with everyone, but more or less I stay the fulltime as I normally would.

I don't take medicine, I don't eat or drink anything special. I wait the sickness out. The last time I was "sick" was with a stomach virus. I lost about 12 pounds or so, simply because I did not eat for about a week(nibble here, nibble there). *shrug* I'm a survivor!

Secret Azn Man sips tea with Black Mage - (lv 4)Secret Azn Man sips tea with Black Mage - (lv 4)Secret Azn Man sips tea with Black Mage - (lv 4)
I rarely get sick. Maybe once every 18 months. When I do, it's usually for a day, no more than 48 hours. I'm not lying. While some people will be sick with the flu for a week, I'm done in 30 hours. Here's why:

Most people take medicine when they're sick to "feel" better. That's the thing. They just "feel" better., not actually get better. Because many medicines simply temporarily "relieve" symptoms like coughing, runny nose, sneezing, fever, etc. But these symptoms, as annoying as they are, are necessary. They are actually symptoms of your body trying to fight off the illness. They're not directly caused by the germs or viruses. They're caused by your body's response to the invaders. You have runny nose because your breathing passageways are coated with even more mucus to trap germs from entering your lungs. You cough to expel germs from your throat and clear your throat of mucous and phlegm. You have a fever to weaken the germs. These are necessary purging protocols your body uses. But if you take medicines to "relieve" these necessary symptoms, you are slowing down your body's effort to heal.

Not only that, many people, after "feeling" better continue to go about their regular routine, albeit in a lower effectiveness. This denies your body from conserving energy it needs to fight off the illness. So, this further prolongs their sickness up to a week.

It boggles my mind why people choose to ignore and/or suppress their body's efforts to heal itself. If you feel like crap and can barely do your work, WHY ARE YOU DOING IT?! Why aren't you resting?! Why are you sabotaging your body's effort to get better?

Here's what I do when I'm sick:

Sleep. There's a reason why you get very tired when you are sick. Your body wants to focus on healing and that takes huge amounts of energy. Since you are so tired you lost your appetite, you sleep to conserve energy for use in healing. I not only sleep, I hibernate. For 20 hours. Not only do I conserve energy, I can pretty much sleep through the illness, avoiding the experience of most of the crappy but needed symptoms.

Drink plenty of fluids; preferably water or nutritional fluids such as orange juice for vitamin C, meal replacement supplements fortified with vitamins and minerals, and/or green tea for the decongestant affects of steam as well as it's potent immune system boosting nutrients. Instead of inhibiting your body's healing efforts with medicines, you want to supplement it with the things it needs to do its job.

Pee. Pee a lot. Everytime you get up to drink, pee. Urinating helps flushes the dead germs away.

If you do all of that like I do, you'll significantly speed up recovery time. When you do get better, you will be very hungry!

That's what I do. That's why I only get sick for a day, no more than two days.

I'm with SAM here, I don't get sick often, and if so, only for one or two days. I just take a lot of showers......

A friend of mine was sick a few weeks back, and I took him a banana split. I highly recommend it, as good comes of it.

I mainly lay around and complain about how bad it sucks. Once I gather up the energy, I climb into a super hot bath and then wrap up in blankets to break my fever.

I usually get better within a few days of doing that. Works like a charm, I tell you.

Damnit, Zelly, I know you frickin posted this because you know sick people freak me out...And no, I don't need to be reminded of my major, thanks.

I get really pathetic when I get sick, I lay in bed and watch tv and am just pathetic...I don't like taking medicines so I usually don't. I also get really OCD when I'm sick, cleaning and disenfecting everything...

Its even worse when people around me are sick...I make lysol barriers around my bed and spray everything I could touch that the sickies could possibly touch.

Okay, I'm all freaked out now...There's germs...*grabs lysol*

When I'm sick I'm very basic. I wear an oversized comfy shirt, with sweat pants and big warm socks. Then I sleep and sit in bed a ton. And if I'm not sleeping then I'm just sitting watching tv from my bed, or I'm surfing the net, plain and simple in that sense isn't bad at all.

If I get bronchitis, which is pretty much the only thing that can get me, I have to lie around and take ****loads of medicine to recover. Pills 'n thrills.
I'll be exhausted from breathing, I won't eat, drink, and I'll be royally pissed from being sick. I hate lying around in bed all day.

It usually takes me one or two weeks to recover fully. Happens pretty much every year...

Great for weight loss though. I'll usually lose 10-15 pounds and get the whole anorexic look going on.
