Insomnia

So, Ive suffered from Insomnia for the better part of my life. Sad really, but TFF usually fuels where i put my latent energy to. I'm really not sure why I always have it, or every week or so I just cannot get to sleep before 5am...

Does anyone else have this fated Insomnia as I do.

If so what do you do? I have a prescription for some sleep aids, but It always feels wrong when I take them. Not sure if its totally psychological or what, but its always been an issue for me. My parents (when I lived with them) always felt bad for me that I could not sleep. Hmm, guess thats good if your writing a book ^.^ No distractions to keep you from writing or developing a writers block...I so hate those...

Insomnia hrmm I get the opposite, what ever you call it. I am always tired, I can't be bothered doing much anymore. When I went to school I got pissed off having to walk 30minutes each way and then having to an 8 hour shift I just couldn't be bothered. Before I couldn't get to sleep till 7am but thats cause I woke up at like 4:30pm

Lethargy is the word you're looking for, Odin.

My insomnia is a direct derivative of my bipolar disorder. I don't sleep because I'm manic most of the time. That also explains why I'm often on edge, quick to respond, and generally brash in my actions. I'm working on that. ^_^;;

But back to the main point here, the insomnia. I should note here and now that it's not insomnia if you have trained your body to fall asleep in the morning and wake up in the afternoon. That's just an odd sleep schedule. Insomnia is when you literally can't sleep.

If I'm lucky, I can get a whole five hours a night, at most. And that's a good night. Usually, I'll go to bed at whatever time, and maybe sleep for 45-60 minutes before I wake up again, toss and turn, stare at the ceiling, and fall back asleep. This happens frequently, so considering the amount of time it takes for me to fall asleep again, most of my predetermined "sleep time" is spent locked in this cycle.

Most nights, I'll get somewhere around three hours of actual sleep. Not fun.

Yeah...if you can still sleep hours on end and for as long as a normal sleep cycle, you got nothin' to complain about. Give me your sleep, now. Don't hold back.

Insomnia isn't a disease in itself, it's a side effect of other things...stress, diet, severe mental disorder...such things.

I've tried many things to try and help me sleep. Meditation, change of diet, music, inscense, hammer, breathing methods, whatever I could find. Herbal remedies, prescription drugs, but nothing has any effect whatsoever.

I usually get 4-6 hours a night. Those are interuppted by wakefulness at least 3 or 4 times. This has been going on for about two years. In my personal opinion I should have died by now, or at least be able to hibernate in the winter.

Amen.

those who suffer from insomnia....

when you go to college/university, and if you think your gonna fail out, blame the program you are taking for causing your insomnia (assumgin its not been diagnosed yet)

It has worked for my buddy, he was in Engineering and he was gonna fail out, so he blamed the rediculous schedules they have (and they are sooo ****ed up) for the insomnia, and they gave him SO Much extra time/help/marks just to get him to pass..im not saying its morallly correct, but when it comes down to pass or fail outta university, **** morals...cause morals dont make you money or put food on your table.

onto the topic, i sleep a good 8 hours a day, although its usually the 8 hours everyone else is doing things...cause i work nights and get home at 2am...bed at 4 wake up at noon....then go back to work shortly thereafter...

in school though, i somehow get LESS sleep, cuase i usually drag my ass outta bed to go to lectures, unless copious amounts of booze have been consumed the night before, then i sleep until my liver is able to work.

On weekdays I do pretty much the same thing. On weekends everything doubles itself, I can sleep around eight or nine hours a night but I wake up about five or six time during. It gets to the point where I say “Okay! I’ll get up, ****!” And then I do. I’d say that this sort of thing has been effecting me a good… four years. Maybe five, but I’m not entirely sure.

I am not really comfortable with calling whatever I have Insomnia. I don’t really appreciate labels and it kind of bothers me when someone says that I have this or that. I’m not entirely too sure why, it just makes me feel weird. So I try not to say “Yeah, I have insomnia!” or anything like that.

I usually get to sleep around 1 in the morning every night, sometimes later. I could try going to bed earlier, sure, but more often than not it does not work. I’ll lay there for 30 minutes to an hour and my back will start hurting, or my feet will feel all weird. I have a hard time sleeping in the case of either of those, so I typically just get up and do whatever until I am dead tired. Then I fall right asleep and the nightly habits take their course. It can get annoying, especially when I can’t take naps. Like, at all. Once every two weeks or so though I feel so very exhausted that it is just impossible for me to do anything with feeling pain, so I pass out(literally) for about two or three hours. I don’t call those naps though.

But ehh… it isn’t insomnia. I dunno.

Yeah...labeling oneself or being labeled by your doctor is annoying. I'd rather just say Hey, I have trouble sleeping. Or, What the **** does my life have to do with you, you cocksucker? but that depends on the crowd.

Agh, I know what you mean...I've tried for weeks on end to go to bed early and do the whole normal sleeping pattern thing. It only resulted in me waking up ready to go at 1am and...well.

I hate the hours of the night. If I have nowhere to go, they're loooooong. But then, so is the daytime. So is...everything...

I'm always tired, regardless of what I eat/drink/sleep. I can get up at 5am, work a 12 hour shift, get home and not be able to fall asleep untill 2 or 3am. I don't know why it's just always been like that. I'll be extremely tired but just cannot sleep. When I do crash though it's hard and long.

I usually sleep 5-6 hours. And actually, I've looked and I've read that people who are in their late teens and early twenties or so, that 5-7 hours of sleep is considered healthy. So.. if you sleep for 6 hours, it's healthy. =P

But.. yeah. I have insomnia. Not so much the can't sleep part, it's the "It takes me an hour or more to fall asleep." type of Insomnia. I just lay there. Staring at the wall. Waiting to fall asleep. Toss and turn....toss and turn...waiting...

This is what happens to me sometimes, usually about 3-4 times a week. Not fun at all. I have no idea why it happens. I mean, the rest of the week, I can actually get to sleep and stay sleeping.

I hate it when I can't go to sleep/ get back to sleep. Nothing I try seems to help. I usually just stay in bed trying to get back to sleep, or give up and go do something like going on the computer. I'm just glad it isn't like that all of the time.

I have a case of it every now an then, but I realise it is mostly when my mind is going a thousand miles an hour. An that is too often. I try to relax by getting on the internet or watching TV. To the point where I am too tired , and fall asleep out of pure exhaustion. An that sucks too. I don't like taking medicine period so I don't. I find that sometimes a nice alcohol buzz does it. Smoking makes insomnia worse I think. I dunno.

I had about a two week stretch of insomnia a few years back, which was probably due to the fact that my mother was sick and in the hospital. I was getting about 2 hours of sleep a night, if that. It eventually abated, though.

Other than that, sleeping is fairly easy for me in periods of normal levels of stress. Usually within about 10-15 minutes of going to bed, I'm gone. Some days I'm just plain out zonked, so it's usually a few minutes after collapsing on the bed.

I don't often have troubles sleeping.

I usually sleep about 12 - 13 hours, anymore then that, and I wake up with a massive headache. I love sleeping, even though I'm tired a lot of the time anyway. I can't take naps, but I luv teh sleep.

I know a lot of others who are insomniacs, though. A lot of them refuse sleeping pills, though... hmm...
