Silly Childhood Fears...

I came up with this idea while chatting with S and Selphie. It runs along similar lines of the nightmare thread, maybe, but I think it deals more with the waking life. So anyways...

The nightmare I had with the exploding head lady inspired a strange phobia of this water pump that makes a semi-loud, long humming sound whenever someone flushes the toilet or runs water (or it happens with those events on occasion...) When the pump would make this sound, I imagined a small ghost ship with the lady riding at it's front flying into my room, at me. I grew out of this fear, and into a new one...

...the pantry door. Before I had the dream about the devil bursting through it (It's located at the back of my room, right next to my bed, almost) I imagined that there was this wizard person living in a small cave, which had a hidden entrance at the back of our pantry. Some day, he was going to come get me, I just didn't know which day it was. I believe the cartoon version of Gollum in "The Hobbit" inspired this monster, because I remember what I thought to be a dream, that has a scenario similar to when Gollum chases Bilbo out of the goblin caves, except that it was me instead of Bilbo, and I went down through the pantry. I even thought I saw the wizard once, but it was actually just our wooden coat rack.

The fear of the pantry door evolved into demons coming from within (probably after the Devil dream.) I also had a dream where I was performing the introduction to my own cartoon show, or something, and there was a short part where I was being sucked into the direction of the pantry door, which had two skulls laying on either side of it, but then I got away again, and ended the entrance with a "tah-dah!" stance. ...There is a lock on this door to this day... Heh.

Later, I also developed a fear of ghosts living in the attic, even though our attic is not big enough for actual people to go up into. I think I got this fear just from hearing about stories of ghosts being up in people's attics; I didn't even have a nightmare about it. Although I did once see a ghost in the living room, when I was sleeping on the couch (our attic is almost right above our living room.) It was standing over me, and told me to go to bed. Then It disapeared, and reappeared at the kitchen entrance and said the same thing again. So it was kind of leading me to my bedroom.

What did you fear as a child?

I always feared my stepfather....had nightmares about it...but I won't go into detail about that.

But the really only silly thing I was afraid of was a 4-foot Tiger painting in my g-ma's basement. It was right to your left as you came in the basement door. I would either go in another door or hide behind someone with my eyes closed to get past it. That kept up till I turned 7...and even then it still freaked me out but I still feared it. The tiger was on a black background in a position of walking towards you with a snarl on his face. Yeah, kinda freaky for a lil kid.

When I was a kid, I would always be scared of the toilet because I had a feeling that a snake would pop out of the water and bite me.
Oh yeah, I was also scared of sleeping alone in my bedroom. That is why my mom bought me a bunk bed so I could share it with my brother.

This may sound a little silly but when i was a kid my mom had this E.T. (the movie character) puzzle that she glued together and hung on my wall and the thing would frighten the bejesus out of me all the time. I still think to this day that when you walk past it its eyes would follow you wherever you went

weird huh

Yeah, I had that too. I used to think something would reach up and bite me on the ass.

I also had this little thing where before I went to the bathroom I'd have to check behind the shower curtain. I dunno why, but I always felt that if one day I didn't look, something would be back there. I also recall having nightmares about like the power going out and me not being able to turn the bathroom light on, then I'd check behind the curtain and something would be there, something that I couldn't see but could feel, like an angry presence.

Turns out my friend did the same thing though, always checked it. I haven't done it in a long time though.

Germs, disease and illness. I was a mild hypochondriac when I young. There's a big medical encyclopedia in my house and I'd read various about various health problems like brain tumour, lyme disease, meningitis and so on. After reading the symptoms I'd fear I had developed them and was going to suffer from whichever particular malady it was.

Ok, this sounds VERY stupid, but when i was very young, i was scared of that bit of classical music "Fur Elise". It was a demo on my keyboard in it scared me!

There was also this really evil looking blood-red, brick red-orange, and brown teddy given to me by my uncle (it was his as a child), and i had to hide it at the bottom of my toy chest!

Im ok now, i have no fears exept uncontrolled fires

.
Actually I am a little scared of that now and thank you for reminding me by the way.

I live in Norway and it was an episode for a month or two ago, it was this latin-american poisonus reptile who crawled up in someones toilet and the news channel actually stated that people should use caution when going to the toilet

Yes. Damn Spiders (Well...except Spiderman, Venom, and any various RP characters I create that have a fixation for Spiders. =P)

And damn most insects. (Except Flys, ants, and gnats... they're just annoying, not scary.)

My fear of spiders has not yet left me. If one's on me I do a little spaz-out. I don't even like to kill them because then I have to come close to touching them.

YEESH!

Only good thing about em is that they eat the aforementioned insects.

Oh Tele, honey, you are crazy, but I love you, so it's okay!

Wolves. They scare the shit outta me! The ones in Beauty and the Beast, and especially the ones in The Chronicals of Narnia! I just recently learned exactly WHY they scare the shit outta me....When I was about 5, my gramma read me The Little House on the Prarie....What kind of sick game is that?

I also now have an intense fear and hatred of spiders....Let me tell you the story. I was walking into the kitchen and there was a spider, so I was going to step on it, and squish it to death (morbid, yes, I know, but I dont think bugs belong in the house!) Well, when I started walking toward it...it started chasing me...and IT CLICKED ACROSS THE FLOOR!!! Yes, the bastard CLICKED after me. I hate the damn things, and now assume they are all in the "crouch and attack" position, and I can't sleep if there is one in my room...

I'm scared of a lot of other things too, still. The dark, creepy people being in my backseat when I get in, watching CSI when I'm home alone, slipping and falling on my ass in public, getting stung by a stinging aminal, small dark places...

It's all good though!!

I used to be afraid of very loud noses when I was young. My family and I went to the opening of a Library, and they were testing out all the equipment that day. I had to of been about 3 or 4, and out of knowhere I heard this loud and I mean LOUD buzzing and beeping sound. I immeadiatley burst into tears and wanted to get out of there. I don't know why it bothered me so much but after that day for several years after that I always was scared if there was any sort of smoke by the fire alarm at home.
