The Music of Square-Enix...

When I think about the songs that make my eyes get a little watery, that put a little spring in my step, or make me want to grab my Blood Sword and skewer my ex (who looks strangely like The Conjurer from the Land of Summoners) and reap some much-needed hit points, the music of Square-Enix games are always in my mind.

So, which songs are your favourites? And, if there are remakes of your favourite themes, which versions did you like better?

Call me crazy, but I tend to prefer the original versions of music...as tinny and mechanical as it sounded...because it took the technology that it had to work with and made it SING!

My favourites have been:

Final Fantasy I: World Map Theme (NES Version without all the bells and whistles)

Final Fantasy I: Sailing in the Boat (NES Version with the makeshift sound of the waves.)

Final Fantasy I: Battle Theme (NES Version, again...why do we need all these crazy sound effects?)

Final Fantasy III: Dungeon Theme (Famicon Version. More joyful...less creepy)

Final Fantasy IV: Main Theme (I bought this game on my birthday with the money that I got for Christmas (my Father was too cheap to pony up the $65-$70 that it cost at K-Mart to get it for me). When I heard the revamped theme, I thought it was the most beautiful song I'd ever heard. I even arranged it for my Father's band programme to play. Of COURSE, I prefer the SNES version to the remakes.)

Final Fantasy IV: Theme of Love (Original, though I really love the new DS sound, as well.)

Final Fantasy VI: Opening Credits Theme (SNES Version. Watching the credits roll while listening to this music was just great.)

Final Fantasy VI: Celes' Aria (SNES Version, though the live voice version was fantastic!!!)

Final Fantasy VII: Opening Theme (Fantastic music.)

Final Fantasy VIII: Breezy (Very relaxing accoustic guitar track.)

Dragon Quest: Main Theme (ALWAYS a classic theme song.)

Dragon Quest: Battle Theme (Crazy music. Nothing great, but always a classic.)

Secret of Mana: Title Theme (TOTALLY awesome piece of music. Beautiful.)

Final Fantasy Tactics: Title Theme (PSP version. Though I liked the PSX version, this one was one of the few tracks that I felt has been enhanced by the new technology.)

Chrono Trigger: Every track on the whole album. Fantastic.

So...what's your take on them? What songs make YOUR day?

Theme Of Love'll be my all-time favorite, although the FFIV opening credits theme's just as good. And the opening credits theme from FFIIIDS. I don't really know FFVI's music, but I must go and listen to it. 'Cause as I played through FFVI, my brother was always leaning over my shoulder, talking. Loudly. And I couldn't make him go away, so he pretty much drowned out the music. I could kill him for that. ¬¬

Brothers and Sisters...

I got really lucky. I had no siblings. There were never any distractions...and I wasn't the most social type, so I always reserved PLENTY of time to play video games in the solitude of my own home.

Lucky you. Right now, I'm sitting in front of the computer with my DS, trying to listen to the FFIII surface world theme that plays while the surface world is engulfed in darkness, and every few seconds my brother races past, yelling about Transformers or something like that. Oh, here he comes again...
