Music for frightening games...

So I was thinking about survival and horror games in general.

It occured to me, that in every horror game, there is an innocent piano theme, or very calming music.

I recently received the Silent Hill 3 sound track from a friend, but I own many Silent Hill 2 tracks, also and it came to my attention how beautiful some of these songs are. (Promise (Reprise)).

Now, since my Akira Yamaoka thread didn't really get much attention, I'm spreading it onto music from all scary games. Resident Evil soundtracks are pretty good, what with the famous "Secure Place" tune.

Also Parasite Eve II's wonderful soundtrack...

Does anyone else here favour the music from horror games over other genres, such as RPG's, etc? =\

Hey good thread i love the music off silent hill. Mostly the "Theme of Laura" and "There was a hole here" is what i think it was called. And resident evil has alot of tracks that i don't know the names to. The piano theme for silent hill 1 was awesome to.

Silent hill is almost doubtlessly the best out there. Each piece of music just fitted, the situation perfectly, and was so flaming well done. Honourable mention to the scene in RE2, where the camera moves so you cannot see round the corner, the music picks up slowly to build the tension. You turn the corner, and theres a useless dead body, scary.

Hahaha, yeah.

Also, if you wanna talk more about SH music, there's a thread about Akira Yamaoka in this forum.

My friend keeps telling me to getmusic from Project Zero, I hope to, soon. I just don't want to be disappointed by it. (My pc has a horrible transfer rate!)

Well I dunno if it counts but the Chaos Temple and the underwater temple could fit in it. I have actually been looking for some eerie music like this myself but mostly going in the direction of Classical though I haven't really had much luck.

Music from fighting an horror games will always be better than rpg's. In my opinion the rpg's have to much namby pamby music. It is nice every once in a while. In reality you would never listen to that crap. At least I don't think you would. I like the soundtrack from Redsident evil. An the fighting games such as killer instinct.

The song True from Silent Hill 2 is probably my favorite song from any type of survival horror/horror games.

Yeah.

Hey, Shadow Hearts had a pretty good soundtrack and it was erie as **** with all the crazy shit in that game. Even I admit I was freaked out when you went to the village of cat-looking demonic beings that ate humans and the entire ground was soaked with blood, haha.

Sean, yeah, True is an excellent song. I can play it on guitar keyboard/piano.

Just too bad I don't have the extra pair of hands to help me so I could recreate the song, haha...

Has anyone heard Project Zero music? If so, is it any good??

Dead, try to put more content in your posts, or at least be on topic. Ths is about *scary* music in video games, not just any old music you hear.

On topic, I don't play very much horror games, and thus don't listen to much "scary" music.

I CAN say however that Yasunori Matsuda's "Dead Sea Tower" in Chrono Cross was suitably creepy and one of my favorite songs on the OST.

Also a lot of Sakimoto's stuff from FFT and of course the dark moody dungeon crawler Vagrant Story had some very creepy themes. VS especially did a good job creating "Atmoshpere" in a lot of the more foreboding places.
