My guess is that the longer you've been a member, or the higher your level, or possibly the higher your own reputation is - the more effect it has on other people when you give them Rep points.

I've had a rating from someone (probably rude to say who) that didn't influence my total Rep score, but a Rep rating I got from someone else gave me about 10 extra points!

If a user has less than 10 reputation points (i.e. is a n00b or on any level lower), they CANNOT actually alter your reputation. Their comment, whether intended to be good or bad, will be accompanied by a grey box, meaning they've given 0 points to you... or taken 0 points away, if that is the case.

It's too bad that most people do not care to use reputation. I think people need to be made known of its existence. It's just a little button on the postbit...=|

Well... rep-begging can be equated to spamming, so I would really appreciate if you didn't go running around asking people to give you good rep just so you can rep other people. The only thing that will come of that is people giving you bad rep for asking in the first place.

Yeah, like SOLDIER#819 said, we need to make the system a little more well-known, but wandering around the forums asking for it isn't a good way. ^_^;;

I did wonder about that, otherwise everyone would ask around for Reputation points I guess.

Out of curiosity, what you were you planning on doing to spread the word on the Reputation system? Send all members a Private Message about it?

Haha, no, I was hoping people would catch on themselves. I mean, this thread exists here in the Announcements section, and a lot of people have stumbled over it (whether they've posted or not). I've already noticed an upward trend in reputation use since then. I COULD send a mass PM, but that's somewhat of an invasion of privacy. I figure I'll let this thread do the talking. We get the occasional question about it in the help forum too, and those generate more activity as well.

I doubt this is the place to say this, but since the additions, I've noticed many pages having pop-ups...and I thought I read somewhere about you guys not liking pop-ups either and to notify you about them???

...what additions? I didn't add anything; I merely changed what was already existing. Could you describe these pop-ups? Is there anything commonplace when you come across them? What triggers them? Oh, and all of this should go into another thread, as this isn't really the place for it. If you would please, direct the specifics into a new thread in the help forum.

Rofl. I get people that give me bad rep or no rep at all for no reason. Usually the comment is blank. I remember one thread, I said nothing bad at all, and someone just said FU** you in the comment. What the hell? This is not a fair system ;_;

Maybe the person was just of different opinion and felt that was the only way to express his dismay.....or something. I agree with you, that is quite unfair indeed.......

BUT I think that's all a bit weird coming from the person that gave me bad reputation points for a post in the flame forum. I thought the whole point of that place was to take a jab at someone and not getting in trouble for it, etc. Wonder why you would do such a thing???
