Huge Updates Soon

After Christmas I plan on doing some renovations on the forums. The Store is about to be released after BETA testing by the original coders, so we have that to look forward to. Additionally, I hope to carve up a few unique designs for the forums to go with our new snazzy looking site... Something that will help streamline the forums and main site more inclusively. I know Cesar has agreed to help in the past, so I hope we can both come up with some cool new looks.

As far as other hacks to help promote content-rich posts, I hope to add a few new hacks that caught my eye. Don't want to share too much details, because I don't want to get anyone toooo excited. I promise they're cool though, just not 100% sure if I will add them or not. One I can mention right now is a new member photo-album.

In a nut-shell, you guys should expect more colors/styles and a fully functional store to purchase items and other forum related things.

Just wanted to give a quick update. I have 3 weeks off of school next week, so after Christmas I hope to get things up and running ASAP.

Ooooooh, yes. Good. I know you mentioned how much you liked what I did with my forums. I'd love to sit down and whip up something new entirely from scratch for vB. It won't even look like vB by the time I'm done with it. Of course, I don't know how much the posters might like that... which is precisely why we've got to keep the skins we have now, too.

Wasn't I also going to do color schemes for the layout we've got right now? Yes, yes I was. I'll need to work on those too, though I can probably do two or three of those per day. Working up that whole new layout is what'll really take me a while, but it'll be worth it in the end. PHP and CSS are my friends.

Hmmm....if we do get the photo album, I see good and bad from that.

Bad - discrimination and put-downs of the pics chosen by the user, and really the user shouldn't be responsible for posting pics that everyone will agree on. That's just.....no.

Good - Maybe the permanent delete of the pic thread.

Well, it's great to hear that there is now a definite time frame. Concerning the different layouts, what exactly did you guys have in mind? Are you just going to mix up the color schemes or are you going to create some theme based skins?

Well, the skins you currently see were written up by Merlin. Or, well, Merlin did the layout anyway. The light one is the original, and I believe Merlin also did the coloring for the dark variety. Fuzz colored the blue one, if I remember correctly.

Now, what I was going to do when we were done with all of our updating and hack-installing would be to create more colored skins for Merlin's layout, based on the eight elements of Final Fantasy -- Fire, Ice, Lightning, Water, Earth, Wind, Light, and Dark.

Fuzz also wants me to create a new layout from scratch, which I definitely cannot do until EVERY hack is installed. It would be a pain to write up a whole new layout only to have to rewrite it because I don't have space for some hack or another.

I may also code up a hack-free layout, for those who like to streamline. Of course, by hack-free, it would still include things like post count and gold.

Ahhh I see. I guess that rules out any real themed based skins I guess (at least beyond the elemental ones you mentioned). Of course that's not a bad thing and I doubt there would even be a real demand for it.

That sound pretty cool you guys. I think that you should make the skin of the forum with the elements. It would look really cool, and it would go with the them of the forum.

I think this forum is going to be even sweeter when you guys get done with it. I am new and all, but I have come real attached to the forum. Good Job you guys. You are a great team of mods, and Admins.
