Well, first of all, "he" is actually a she, and her name is Lightning. Or, that's at least her code-name. I don't remember if they released her actual name yet.

It's unlikely that there will be ANY tie-in to Final Fantasy VII aside from some similar names and stuff like they tend to recycle. Aside from the Ivalice Alliance games (Tactics, XII, and spinoffs of these titles), there is no interconnectivity between the games, excluding sequels and spinoffs.
