I mean I know you got Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom (IMO not the best RPG at all, no sir) and maybe a couple of games other consoles (like the 360) got too like Oblivion and Enchanted Arms for example, but where's the PS3's Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata, Mass Effect, Two Worlds or Gothic 3? Both systems are getting Fallout 3 (as is PC) and the only RPG I know of that's exclusive to PS3 that's any good is Folklore which is really a real time action adventure game with role-playing elements.

Quite frankly, I see FFXIII losing it's exclusivity as the final nail in the coffin. PS3 losing it's emotion engine can possibly render some PS2 games less playable and anyone regardless of PS3, Wii or 360 can buy a cheap PS2 for all the classics on PSX and PS2.

Actually Eternal Sonata is getting ported to the PS3 right now. But there are still a number of RPGs in the future that the PS3 is getting exclusively. There is Disagea 3, White Knight Story, Valkyria Chronicles, a new Shin Megami Tensei game, and X Edge and an unannounced Tales game. So there are still more exclusive RPGs coming on the PS3.

I meant in the here and now. Disgaea 3's pretty much guaranteed to come out, and will kick ass I'm sure, but White Knight Chronicles might not topple Oblivion let alone Fable 2 when it comes out from the screens I've seen, I don't know for sure but I heard Valkyria Chronicles was going to be a strategy/tactical RPG so it could possibly be killed by Disgaea 3 anyways (merely speculation as I haven't seen any actual ingame shots or anything), I hadn't heard about a new Shin Megami Tensei game (unless you mean Persona 4 which comes out in the US around December I believe, but it's for PS2 and not PS3), I've heard no details that X Edge will even get an English localisation, and then theres the Tales game... All I know is Tales of Vesperia is on the 360 AND the next one is said to be being made for the Wii. I could be wrong, but I am a huge Tales fan.

Essentially I see Disgaea 3 as being the only real threat, but unfortunately it's nowhere near as big a franchise as many others popularity-wise when factoring in impact. Most people I know have never heard of the games, and most stores only get in a couple copies of each one... It's like a few Shin MegaTen games... Awesome, yet widely unknown in many areas.

The other thing I notice which essentially kills the PS3 in a lot of Australia is that they seem to only sell the 40GB model PS3 that has had it's PS2 emulation removed. So not only does it have less games (and fewer exclusives) than the Xbox 360 coupled with a higher cost, but it also has 80GB less storage, half the ram from what I hear and doesn't play the older games which was one of it's best points originally. No more huge software library and all. >_> Oh, and I've heard they've done the same for the 40GB NTSC model in the USA though I think the US have other models readily available, just at a much higher cost.

Oh, the PS3 is technologically superior in some respects still (especially in terms of it's disc capacity), but it seems to be losing more and more functionality as time goes on through removal of parts. I see it as getting more and more to the point where it becomes just a cheap Blu-ray Disc player. Well an expensive one, but cheap for Blu-ray.

The Shin Megami Tensen game is not Persona 4 it is a new Megaten game that is made for the PS3. And the new Tales game is not the Vesperia, it is a new PS3 tales game that as I said is unannounced. All Namco Bandai said was that they would be announcing a new Tales game for the PS3 later in the year.

Aye, I just read the wikipedia article. From reading it, the game sounds like battles might play something like Fallout. Or similar in a few respects anyways. Which would interest me a ton normally, but I've already preordered Fallout 3 on both PC and 360. I figure the 360 version will play best now, but when the 360 becomes obsolete, chances are I'll want to play it still. PC makes that easier.

I think I'll give Valkyria Chronicles a try if it gets a localised release, but I doubt I'll be going out of my way. Hell, the RPGs on the 360 alone should keep me going for a few weeks to a few months. If I include my unfinished PS2, PSP and PC RPGs, I'll be playing a damned long time.

I'm still laughing my ass off about the exclusitivity loss though. PS3 fanboys are going nuts, and the only good exclusive I know of for the PS3 that's been currently released is Metal Gear Solid 4. It's funnier living in Australia still, as we get like half the games Japan and North America get. There's not many titles to choose from.

Personally I reckon the best consoles for RPGs were the SNES and the PS2. PS2 as the PS2/PS together seem to have more RPGs in English than any other system, SNES as many of the best games (IMO anyway) came out on it. The PS3 would have taken that pedestal, but they had to go and remove both the emotion engine AND the emulation support here... And other countries with their new 40gb models I believe.

The PS3 needs exclusive games or it can't compete. This comes right after the report that Sony lost millions in the last year. This is a disaster for Sony. I'll still buy a PS3 for the Blue Ray, but Squenix's gain is Sony loss, no question.

Oh, thank God! I don't have a PS3, and even though it has a few sweet games that are exclusive for it, the only real reason I would've gotten it is because of FFXIII. This is a real relief. I might get one later on down the road, but for now, I'll save up my money and use it for something else.

I'm no marketing executive but under the circumstances for this game it seems ridiculous not to make it for another console in North America, seeing as how it is mainly dominated by 360 owners.

And why PS3 owners feel betrayed is beyond me, they STILL get the game, most likely a slightly more integrated title,Seeing as how the game's engine was originally built around the PS3.

And I think most of us could care less about these other Square titles that are 360 exclusive, every other RPG just doesn't have that FF feel to it, sounds to me like a bunch of lackluster games trying to get RPG'ers in to the 360, and hopefully help sell the 360 in Japan.

And besides, I'm guessing sony is still getting FF Versus XII, And KH3, Which are both going to be huge Square games.

Actually I'm going to have to disagree with the Versus. I believe what's known as the Domino Effect will take place with Versus. Sure, PS3 will still get it, but I doubt it will remain exclusive for long.

I heard some guys working in Game Stop who echoed my opinion, that the lose of exclusivity will harm the PS3 sales. Actually the store guy said "This just confirms what I said, that the PS3 was doomed and that the only thing that it had going for it that could keep it afloat was the FF liscense." I'm not so quick to dismiss Sony and it's system, but public opinion in my area from FF fans isn't hopeful for the PS3 right now.

Well as previously stated there are other sole exclusive titles to the PS3 that will hopefulyl help to keep the system afloat. I don't see the PS3 falling off of the market any time soon. It still has many advantages over the Xbox360 and Wii that I think will proove benificial in the future.

Are you referring to it's removal of support for PS2 games (in 40gb models worldwide), it's barely used motion sensitivity, it's RSX GPU which is technologically inferior to the 360's Xenos GPU or it's one redeeming feature - the usage of higher capacity blu-ray media?

Because apart from that higher capacity storage allowing for more game resources on a single disc, the PS3 isn't all that great. Oh you can sing praise about the Playstation 3’s Cell engine, but no-one has fully managed to bring out it's full potential yet and we might be waiting a while due to it's dodgy developer's tools. The 360's triple-core Xenon CPU on the other hand is a hell of a lot easier to work with in terms of game development and it's potential can really be drawn out.

The PS3's got free multiplayer, sure. But then the services offered via Xbox Live shit all over the PSN. Even the Indie gaming scene suffers more with PSN as it's that much harder to have games put onto the PSN than on the Xbox Live Arcade. If not impossible.

I'll go into the graphics solely for emphasis. The 360's Xenos GPU absolutely kills the PS3's RSX GPU. It has a higher fillrate, higher vertex processing power, higher pixel processing power, AND better memory architecture. Nothing annoys me more than a PS3 fanboy drunk on Sony advertising boasting of how the RSX GPU is God's gift to gamers. Hell, it's still a decent GPU, but considering it's a little less powerful than GeForce 7800, it's not nearly that good.

For one I am not soly a PS3 "fanboy", sure I dislike th xbox360 only because it is Microsoft, but I have never ragged on it seeing that it is a good gaming system.

But seeing that you went there, yes the blu-ray tech is an absolute benifit. The reliablitiy factor over the 360 is always a benifit, everyone I know that owns a 360 has had major problems with them exspecially the first gen models. No I was not limiting to the soly the 40g model, seeing the 60 and 80 are backwards compatible if it that big of a deal one should save a little bit more and go for one of those. And like you stated "but no-one has fully managed to bring out it's full potential yet " this was the same as the PS2 yet I didnt hear everyone bitching about it at the time, hell they still haven't reached the full potential of the PS2.

Damn straight, and it means a game can store more information on the one disc than an Xbox title. The only downside to this is that blu-ray discs cost a deal more to manufacture and even games on multiple DVDs could be cheaper to create and therefore sell when it comes down to it. That said, whether or not there is any price difference between games is another thing entirely.

Indeed. But then as far as I'm aware there's been a great deal less reports as of late 2007 due to Microsoft altering several features of the design. I also notice they seem to be getting a good deal quieter than they once were. It's been fairly widely known since around Feb 2007 that the heatsink clamp design was one of the bigger reasons for older 360s to overheat and then RROD on people. It's easy to fix this problem with the earlier models too. All you need to do is remove the clamps and find a way to fix it down. Screw-in pegs for example. Or Microsoft will just send you a new one when it dies, there's that too if you don't want to risk voiding your warrenty. I haven't known anyone to have any real issues with post November 2007 360s.

It's a big deal in that the PS3 game library is fairly miniscule right now, whereas with the ability to play PS2 games, the PS3 would have one of the greatest libraries available. It's a bigger deal that in some countries (like Australia for instance) the cheap PS3 is still $50-$100 (depending on if you get the console alone or with a bundled game) more expensive than the most expensive 360 (which coincidentally comes with three games here right now). Oh and the PS3's emulation for PS2 games stands at approx 50% which is around the same as the latest version of the 360's for standard Xbox games.

Oh and the 40gb model seems to be the only model available in some places right now. Like here for example. The rare second-hand 60gb PS3s you see occasionally here are often a couple hundred dollars more than a brand new 40gb PS3. And yeah, they're second-hand...

They have pretty much reached it's limits with a few games. If you mean 100%, than no, that's pretty much impossible for any console. My argument was solely that enough more of the 360's potential can be tapped right now that games run better. In a year or so the PS3's abilities may be somewhat higher due to some playing around. Who knows?
For now though the 360 kicks some serious ass in terms of what can be rather easily harnessed.

I 'knock' the PS3 solely as in many ways it is inferior (especially with Sony removing things as it has been) and yet still manages to carry that hefty pricetag. Am I wrong to recognise a bad deal when I see one? If you have one of those original better model PS3s with the emotion engine than you're more or less laughing. You have a better console in every way bar graphics and the current processing capacity, with a massive library. But the PS3s they're selling now are far from worth their price when compared with the alternatives in my personal opinion. Gaming is my passion, and I expect the best when I'm forking out half a grand or more...

On topic, I think it'll make a huge difference. Final Fantasy was one of the franchises that drew people to the PSX and PS2. With Final Fantasy and possibly some other previously exclusive franchises branching out, Sony may lose the monopoly they had with the technologically inferior PS2. The games. Don't believe me? Look at the tech specs. The Xbox and gamecube BOTH had pretty much superior hardware to the PS2. But the PS2 had what was most important. One of the greatest gaming libraries ever known to console gamers...

unlike everyone else in this thread, I am VERY hyped for this move, obviously SE has a business to run, and by releasing FF13 on more than one system is going to boost numbers, which at this time they need because we have already talked about their fiscal year last year, which wasnt near as good. I know I am a little late for the party (Fashionably late, alright!) Anyways... I think this is getting blown outa proportion, Betrayal? Are you HONESTLY joking me? Look, most of us don't really have the money to buy the "most impressive machine" (I can barely afford my bills anyways, the only reason I got a 360 is because I wanted a next gen console which would tide me over til the next... er next-next? I find it really disappointing when true fans, who will still be getting the game because it's coming to the PS3 too, are moaning because the "lower grade" console gets the game too.

I am a die-hard FF fan, I will love the series no matter how many FF8 or 10's come out, I will always play it, and was a little saddened by the fact that I wouldn't be able to play the game for the first console cycle since FF1 straight off if I wanted to because I didn't get the "better" console. I think it's a wise decision on the fanbase (most of the American fanbase is split between two consoles now) and sales.
