As found in Wiki:

Quote:
Regarding the lack of males seen, it is found that males and females live separately, only meeting when there is a need for it.
In other words, there is a village of Viera males, likely deeper in Golmore than Eruyt (or possibly in the Salikawood), which is why we never see them in the game. Viera in general just aren't all that friendly to outsiders, so it's not too much of a stretch to say that the vast majority of them remain hidden by choice.

Personally I think it would have been kind of neat to have a little sidequest that involves the team stumbling across a male Viera and helping him out in some way.

You know, thats kinda what I thought when I first played the game lol!

I first thought that hume males could mate with Viera, but then the Viera have issues with outsiders, hence why they don't like Fran. But then I thought that Fran and Balthier were a couple, but then Fran is considered an outsider anyways...

So I guess that a male Viera clan makes the most sence lol... Where did you you get the quote DragonHeart?

Final Fantasy Wiki. Handy little thing for looking up snippets of information that are either difficult to find or present only in the Japanese version. Not sure exactly where that particular bit of info came from though as this Wiki doesn't list their source material for some reason. I'm assuming it's mentioned somewhere either in XII or in RW. I can't recall coming across anything like it in XII but I also haven't done a lot of the sidequests and things, so it could pop up somewhere unexpected.

Either way, it's a perfectly reasonable explanation to me. It's basically the same way they did the Mithra in FFXI, which I am quite familiar with. Only I think in the last expansion they introduced male Mithra, I don't know cause I don't play anymore.

Well I said a while back, Matsuno said in an interview that we'd see Male Vieras in XII, but that was WAYY earlier in Development before he got booted out by S-E's higher-ups.

I had thought it was like OoT's Gerudo, where they raid villages, kidnap men and mate with them.

Ah, a revisit to the age-old question of single-gender races in fiction.

For the Viera, or FFXII's Viera at least, there are a few rare male Viera hidden away which are not observable in-game. Viera are essentially Amazon rabbits. When it's time for a new generation, they go obtain a male (like Amazons), assumedly raised as a stud, and mate harem-style (like rabbits).

Before the existance of male Viera was made known to me, I assumed they were hermaphroditic, like certain actual animals.

Turns out, the Viera can cross-breed. When playing Revenant Wings, pay attention to the origin story of the alternate race of short-eared pale-skinned Viera.

@ Cain:
Shame Ganondorf decided he'd rather be an evil warlord than hang around and be king of the Gerudo, with essentially the entire race as his harem.
