Is it just me or are the espers pretty useless in in this game. I have aquired all of them except for Chaos and i have summoned an esper maybe like 3 or 4 times besides the time that you need to (lol not gonna spoil nething for the new players)

They were useful at times in the game when I played it. My favorite espers was Ultima, but before acquiring her Mateus was my favorite esper. I would use her or other espers and the character who has the espers equipped with the "double exp" accessory to get a crapload of exp. points. Other then that, they weren't that much use and I wish you would've been able to upgrade their stats or something at least.

to elaborate on what you sed diddy, that was a good feature on X where you coulld upgrade the summons stats and what spells they can use

i personally never use espers. only on boss fights. But thats me, and im not that far in the game so maybe i should just keep quiet..

I only used an Esper once after obtaining it, just to see its power attack, then never used it again. Except, of course, when you have to in order to progress through the story.

I personally think they are useless. I used Belias once I think and havent used the others at all, I have all of them, just never used them.

lol, im really not all that surprised that the poll is going in my favor that the espers are useless in the game, granted they do have cool ass death blows but on the flip side they really dont do that much help

yea, their special moves LOOK cool, but as I remember, they don't do much damage

Pretty useless. I only use them for boss battles when I don't have a full mist charge on other party members.

I like using espers when I need to go through an area with semi-difficult enemies. I jsut summon the esper before entering the area then they obliterate all of the weaklings. Also Espers are great shields. I usually just stand behind it, then all of the enemies concentrate their attacks on the Esper, and I just continually heal it, which is a continuous job, if you stopped, youd die. But I don't suggest summoning an Esper in the middle of a bunch of enemies, especially if they can kill you within a few hits.

In my opinion espers are useless because of the circumstances required to summon them. When you summon one, everyone disappears except the summoner and you are left to fight the enemy with the esper. If you die, the esper dies and if the esper dies, you return to normal battle. It also costs a herendous amount of MP to summon them. Essentially you are risking almost all of your MP and your life to summon a marginally "useful" creature (varrying in power). None of them are very distinguished, they just attack with different elements or when they stray away from the mold, like with the esper that constantly casts death, they also end up being useless. After of all of those restrictions, it is definetly not worth even considering using espers and you would be better off just waiting and watching your gambits take their turn. Espers were probably just thrown in so that the game would seem more final fantasy-ish, but they failed because the one way you use them (to do damage), they fail miserably.

Well I haven't completed the game yet because I got bored of the game but I haven't found the Espers to be really useful just yet because I am using the Quickenings a lot more which I find to be great and very handy. I only have one Esper and haven't found the need to use it so that's how useful it is to me! Maybe as I get into the game a lot more I might change my opinion but so far I think the Quickenings are good enough during battle.

I think the only real use for Espers in this game would be to level up one character faster (EXP won't be divided while the Esper is out).

They are good for one thing though... ok, ONE of them is.
I have Zodiark on Vaan, so I stone him and summon Zodiark... Instant 60k damage and all I need is a Gold Needle. Vaan acquires mp horrendously fast so I'm not worried about it. It is especially useful against groups of enemies that bug me.

Lol completly useless. The only reason why I got them all was for bragging rights and fighting them. Using them can get you killed especailly vs hard monsters who all target you. It is better to have 3 party members where you can make quick work of enimies and heal instead of dieing then game over. FF12 did a horrible job with summoning giving it the most useless summons in FF history. The first FF game i played where summons are completly utterly useless in boss fights, but they are cool to watch thats the only good point.
