Character/Classes

Hey guys and gals, I was wonderin what jobs you have assigned your characters to.

Mine are:
Vaan-Pretty much a straight damage dealer with a Katana
Balthier- Kept him ranged with a gun
Fran- Once again, ranged but with a bow
Basch- He's the tank with a sword and shield, though it seems he does more damage than Vaan heh
Ashe- Red Mage I guess, was going to have her just heal but...
Panelo- Red Mage also, was going to just be a nuker, BUT^, it made more sense to have both of the mages do both since I usually only like having one mage in the party and you always need a character that can heal

So how about you guys?

Vaan - Thief/Ninja type. Uses light armor, daggers, poles, and ninja swords. Minor healing spells
Ashe - Paladin. Mix between a knight/healer. Uses rods, swords and shields and mystic armor.
Basch - Beserker/Samurai/Knight. Basically a total strength and HP tank. Uses two handed weapons (katanas, great swords) as well as axes/hammers and shield, heavy armor. Unless i need to use his quickenings, he's in beserk mode a lot of the time
Penelo - Offensive Mage, uses spears and staves. Equips mystic armor.
Fran - Red Mage. Uses a little bit of every kind of magic but doesn't have a strength in either like Penelo and Ashe. Uses mystic armor, equips bows and crossbows (spears for melee)
Balthier - My long range support character. Uses support spells, as well as my main technic guy. He has alll the helpful technics for assisting my team. Uses guns and handbombs (maces for melee) and light armor for now but i'm probably going to teach him heavy too.

Vaan - He is a White Mage Swordsman more or less. I have him back up healing and removing negative buffs, then otherwise he fights. He wears heavy armor just like the other two.
Basch - He is a Paladin, he does have all of the magick, but I really do not use it unless I need to on him. His main job is to fight and hold the guy down, which is why he has Bubble and Decoy. Bubble is double HP, and Decoy is like Provoke. He also wears heavy armor, and obvious if he is a Paladin he is sword and shield, need the shield.
Ashe - She is a Red Mage Swordswoman, though with none of the draw backs of being a Red Mage. She is simply put, the Perfect Red Mage, she has all of the White Magick and Black Magick spells. Well she has all of the spells period. She does all of the healing usually with Vaan and fights when she can. Ashe is also my main character, so if I do anything it is through her. So she is usually low on the MP.
Penelo - She in FFT terms is a Squire, nothing special about her. Her direction at the time would be a White Mage, but otherwise she has 7500 LP unused.
Balthier - He is also a Squire, nothing special other than the gun. He would be a Gunner in his current state, but he has 7000 LP unused.
Fran - Same too, a Squire, with a bow. She has 7000 LP unused and is my lowest level character at 9.

When I remedy that issue they will all be wielding swords and heavy armor and have all of the Magick spells.

Vaan: Is somewhat of a knight with using swords, but light armor and shield, but is learning magick at this point.

Ashe: Well, she's more of a mage at this point, but is equpped with heavy armor and is using staves/rods.

Penelo: Is my little thief in the party. She's pretty quick and making using her LP to fill in all the technicks at this point, but is using mystic armor and shields.

Balthier: I use him as my archer/gunner. He's using light armor and using both magick and skills.

Fran: I would say she is my Dragoon in a way. I usually giver her spears or katanas, or staves, but is kinda in the mage side as well.

Basch: He would be my samurai/paladin. He definitely can do some serious damage and is using heavy armor as well.

I didn't really assign job classes. I'm pretty much all about the Augments right now. But if I had to break it up:

Vaan - I haven't really been using him. I don't like the character for whatever reason. Pretty much uses the heavy swords with some white magick to boot.

Basch - He's my powerhouse. Uses an axe and has quite a few black magick spells.

Balthier - Switches between guns and poles. I really like the pole stats, and have been keeping him on there. Ditto as the others for the white/black magick.

Fran - Uses the bow and arrows, does quite a bit of damage. She's got most of the Green Magick spells.

Ashe - I guess she'd be my White Mage. She's got the lower MP cost and all the x-Lore augments.

Penelo - Have NO use for her whatsoever. She's still level 11 and I haven't bothered to do anything with her. I suppose I'll do that at some point, but for now I could care less.

Vaan - Kept him as the default Thief-type with a bare minimum of magick, just cure basically. I don't use him much, honestly.

Balthier - Gunner, basically. Don't use him much either.

Fran - Ranger/Black Mage. Has as much magick as possible and most of the physical augments. Basically everything she does can be done from a distance.

Basch - Paladin. He's my main tank but also gives damage as well as he can take it. Very strong, low mp though.

Ashe - Also very paladin-like, but also my main healer. She really only tanks if Basch happens to die, or there's multiple enemies.

Penelo - Red Mage, I guess. She's my third useless character lol.

I break down my characters into one class with one or more magick types. They can all have a hint of all types of magickry, but these are what I will consider their jobs as far as my game has gone. They haven't progressed much yet. (All level 15 except Vaan @ 14.)

VAAN ... SQUIRE with a THIEF side, and a touch of all MAGICKS
I'm using Vaan a little like everything, but more of a thief. He's got a lot of strength, but I like to keep him fast. Wears both light & heavy armor. I will try axes soon. He's sometimes the leader of the battle.

PENELO...DANCER with ALL MAGICKS
So she can't be seen physically dancing unless she's using her quickenings, but the idea of her for me is, she will be like the ultima of all magicks. I haven't fell in love with her, but I do support her magickal ability. She equips bows, rods and staves. Sometimes daggers and maybe axes for fun. She'll rarely ever lead a party.

ASHE...PALADIN with GREEN/WHITE MAGICK
She doesn't seem to have bad defense, and I'm always having her the first to get the strongest defensive equipment. I see a real stubborn side of Ashe, and that is the warrior. But there is also the high magickal side of her that may have her be my main summoner. I can't see anything else on her but a sword and shield. Maybe a rod or scepter. She's almost always party leader.

BASCH...WARRIOR with UBER STRENGTH, and some WHITE MAGICK
Wow. I really love Basch's fighting spirit. I think he's a bit slow, so his main weapon is going to be a sword, but maybe I'll get to enhance his speed so I can bust on the axes. He's a great party leader.

BALTHIER...THIEF with BLACK MAGICK
So he's more like a ranger, but...one of the translations of his Mist Quickenings from the JP version is "Compass of Thievery," so indeed I will keep his love for the money inside of him. I also see a big black mage inside of him too...somewhere. And I know he loves the gun, so he will master the gun. He's rarely ever going to be party leader on the battlefield.

FRAN...DARK KNIGHT with ARCANE/TIME MAGICK
The queen of excitement. I'm seeing a lot of physical strength and a lot of magickal strength so far. Though I know you can pretty much customize anything...judging from her attire and artwork, she seems to be that Dark Knight with a monk spirit. I like big weapons on her, like spears. But she will also use the bow. She's rare leader on the field, but I use her solo alot.

Vaan-Red Mage. He's the jack of all trades, so he can use any magic or weapon. I just keep heavy armor on him so he does not accidentally become a liability.

Penelo-White Mage. She can use white magic as well as buff with green and time magic. I equip her with mystic armor, staves, rods, and the occasional mace & shield combo. She can also use measures but those things are stupid.

Balthier-Black Mage. He just spams black magic. His equips are the same as Penelo's, except that he can also use daggers when he runs out of MP. For emergencies, he can use a wee bit of white magic.

Fran-Ranger. Her equipments consist of only ranged weapons and light armor. In order to give her some support capabilities, she can use a tiny bit of white magic, in addition to all of the technicks.

Ashe-Paladin. She's my best tank, so I always makes sure she has the best heavy armor and shields available. She can also heal. I tend to quip her with axes and hammers.

Basch-Dark Knight. He pretty much specializes in damage dealing, so I gave him black and arcane magic as well as 2-handed weapons. He tends to get a lot of mob hate, so heavy armor keeps him safe and happy.

Penelo - White and Black magic user with Rods/ Staves (Might change to Katanas)

Vaan: Fighter/Ninja/Time Mage. He uses swords, katanas, and ninja swords. Heavy armor. Uses time magic, speed boosters, and techniques.
Ashe: White Mage. Uses staves. Mystic armor. She uses white and green magic, and MP boosters.
Basch: Knight. Uses swords, shields, and spears. Heavy armor. He learns a lot of HP boosters, and uses techniques that deal massive damage.
Balthier: Archer/Gunner. Uses guns, bows, and crossbows. Light Armor. I taught him a lot of Augments to maximize Item use.
Fran: Black Mage. Uses rods. Mystic Armor. She uses Black and Arcane Magic, learned a lot of MP stuff too.
Penelo: Thief. Uses daggers, axes, maces, and measures. Light armor. She knows a lot of speed boosters, and a lot of techniques.

At the moment its hard to group any of my characters into specific classes, but i'll try my best.

Active Party - Level 37

Vaan - Paladin: He has great defense and evade, his curing isn't too good although he has access to all of the spells (same with my whole active party). I rarely use black magic on him, unless i'm fighting Flan/Elementals then i might crack it out =p. The main difference between Vaan and a normal Paladin is that Vaan does massive amounts of damage for me, mostly because i equipped him with a 90 attack sword, can't remember the name of it but i stole it from some weird mimic thing, took me a good 20 minutes to kill it afterwards aswell heh.

Ashe - Paladin: Pretty much the same as Vaan, except her Curative magic does a hell of a lot more, i think i have Cura doing 1100 at level 36... which is almost 50% of everyones HPs =o. She doesn't do quite as much damage as Vaan, as she's only equipped with a Demonsbane sword. Although she is also proficient in bows so she can double for a ranger if i'm fighting flying bosses, hitting for 1200ish with the Yoichi bow and normal arrows.

Penelo - Samurai: I have her set up a bit weird, she's currently using a Katana but i might switch her to a higher damage weapon (like the zodiac spear i have gathering dust). She's set out as a backup healer and damage dealer, i gave her a katana because she seems to chain attack with it at times, which gives me a massive advantage in some fights (one fight i had her do 6 attacks back to back, then 7 right after that one... was pretty awesome).

Back-up Party - Level 24

Basch - Warrior: At the moment i have him set up as a main damage dealer with the Zodiac Spear equipped, i didn't want to use the spear in my main party until the storyline caught up with it (i got it really early in the game heh). I was thinking of turning him into a backup tank incase Ashe and Vaan died or ran out of MP (like after a quickening), but i've yet to find a weapon that matches the one Vaan has for damage... some axes come close but for some reason they seem to be hitting for 500-600 instead of 1000+.

Fran - Ranger: Set up as a ranger, she can use Katana's aswell. I never really used her to be honest... i plan on levelling all my backup party soon though, so who knows what i'll do with her =p.

Balthier - Paladin: I mostly have him as a tank and backup healer (so another paladin i guess =p), his spells don't do much though because of his level (compared to the main party's). I'm sure that will change once i start levelling them.


So as you can see most of my guys are built to take damage and deal it out with 1 handed weapons. I was hoping for dual wield in this game, but my hopes appear to have been dashed. I don't have any set mages like some people seem to have (black mages, white mages, green mages etc etc.) because all of my characters have all the spells that are avaliable to them at the point in the game i'm at, the only difference between their magic is that Penelo and Ashe heal for more than Vaan =o
