I just got Final Fantasy 11, and its a bit overwhelming. The town is large, the controls are ostentatious, and its very... confusing. I want to try to stick with it, as i have heard good things, but I'm having troubles getting started.

The main problem i am having is the controls. I bought it for PC of course, i got the collection with all 4 expansion packs. I tried setting up the controls on my PS2 controller, i have an adapter to hook up my PS2 controller to a USB port, but when i try to input the controls, it doesn't seem to recognize it. Ideally i would like to use the controller, does anyone have any ideas?

Also, movement with the mouse is frustrating, and the default movement keys are of course in the asdw formation, but when i try using the keys, it just types in the chat box. So if i can't get the controller working, how do i get the commands to work without typing in the chat box? Please help! I really want to get into this game as it's the only FF i have not played. Thanks!

Press the - key on your numpad to pull up the menu. From there, head over to the configuration (second page of the menu) and you can alter your keyboard type from there. You should also be able to set it up to use your controller if you'd like.

Personally, I use the compact keyboard style (WSAD movement, different shortcuts) even though I have a full-size keyboard. Most members here who play the game will tell you that the full keyboard controls are better -- honestly, it's a matter of preference.

With your current control setup, you move the character with your numpad.
