| it hurts me too - but at least with the 60gig (and possibly the 80gig at this point) you can play the ps2 version with graphical enhancements that make it almost as good as the 360 version. the extra anti-aliasing is great, but nothing is going to make those textures a higher resolution. i mean, the game is 6 years old - and with only 9-10 million or so ps3 floating around out there i guess SE figures there's no market for it.
the 360 version was a clear ploy to eat into the american MMO market - but let's face it, americans prefer the ease of play/fast pace/convenience of world of warcraft over the admittedly painful process of playing FFXI. (painful as in waiting and waiting for an english speaking group invite, or endless traveling between cities).
i personally like both - WoW because it's like eating candy or doing drugs: it's bad for you but it just feels so goddamn good. FFXI because every little achievement feels like a huge milestone, as everything (leveling, questing, making money, tradeskilling, even traveling) takes A LOOOONNNNGGGG TTTIIIIMMMMMEEEEEEEEE. and, i mean, come on - it's final fantasy, with art direction by yoshitaka amano. simply untouchable design ethics.
so don't hold your breathe - i'd just install the 2008 collection onto your ps3's HD, turn on the ps2 graphics enhancements, snap in a USB keyboard and get to grindin! (or at least, get to standing around in jueno waiting for an invite lol).
