Someone has somethin up their rear it seems. But meh, to each their own. You can play this game just fine without having all the "OMG uber-1337" gear. I've leveled Ninja to 67 now, I still do not own a Scorpion Harness (Supposedly the best body piece for NIN) nor do I own a pair of Ochiudo's Kote. My NIN has been praised by many people, because in spite of my lack 'uber' gear, I'm a good player. I get what I can, when I can. I consistently run on less than 100k gil. Getting rid of gil would not fix the problem as you seem to think. It would only make the game run on a Diablo II-esque barter system, where people will only take X item for Y item, or Z number of this item for one of that item. No thanks, I'll stick with my gil system.

i play FF11, have been for about 3 years, you cant rid RMT, they just keep comming back best thing to do is ignore them or join them
