I do not really pay much mind to the Cactaurs, I expect them to be in the game and seeing a cactus running around the desert I think you know what they are without having to even guess. There is in even the NM Cactaur that is insanely fast and the only way to fight him is getting him to link to you because you cannot catch him otherwise.

There are goblins in the game and there have been many goblins in the other FF games in the past but no one is seeing anything about them being different. Though people would probably say that they prefer the goblins appearance in FFXI.

And Tonberry, they are just evil things. There is a dark backstory to them that makes them very vicious little things that have a lot of malice and hate. They are not those cute things you see in the other games that do not look terribly evil even though they can be insanely powerful.

But a lot of monsters in FFXI have changed, the normal ones tha you see in other games change all of the time. The cactuar and tonberry might be a staple of the monster bestiary, but they still are familiar that you will not be wondering what it is.

The only reason they didn't kill you on other games, is because they ran away first(especially on FFVIII)

*shrug*

It's still FF, yo. The first time I saw one in the Altepa desert whilst trying to find a party I was like "HOLY SHITS! CACTUAR!"

And then I ran away as fast I could.

You call that a Cactaur? It looks like the bastard son of a Xanafalque from Phantasy Star IV, or is that too arcane a reference in this forum?

Gah, Cactuar Rapido, the fleeing bastard.
Have fought it with my linkshell a few times. LIl bastard.
it uses 10.000 needles, even nastier than 1000 lol. so better have a full alliance (adding jug pets, summons, wyverns, puppets). Luckily I can take some as mnk >_<; (1875 hp).
They're still cute mother****ers though.
Tonberries are evil though, I love them

Peace out

That was pretty much my reaction as well when I first encountered a cactuar.

As for it's appearance, I do prefer the more "traditional" and cuter version.

The goblins in FF XI are cute compared to FF IX or FF I, II.
