A little of both. Heaven because you get to see people you've missed, although, they may haunt you. That's why it's a little of Hell, also it's not happy, grass place either, so it's kind of neutral, if your a visitor.
If you're the spirit, then it could be like Heaven. You see your relatives that have died in the past, and live eternaly in the Farplane. Unlike Seymore who stayed on earth with Mika and others, I think it's a punishment to live as dead.

Well when you die you become a pyrefly, kind of like a pixxy and fly around the farplane for eternity, and if you dont you live again as a fiend, what would you do there in the farplain.

I agree. From what you see it just seems like a purgatory. The spirits there dont' seem to be doing anything except "resting." How boring. But then again, maybe it's fun to do that when you're dead.

Like many have said already, I would consider the Farplane the closest thing to Purgatorio. Neither Heaven nor Hell, it is like the direct spirit world in which the dead wander freely. However, unlike Puragatory, the pyreflies (souls) are not in the Farplane because they are a good deed's short of Kingdom Come, but instead they appear to be resting in a comepletely different part of the world.
The landscape of the Farplane itself appears to be a mystery. I don't know much about Final Fantasy X-2, but in FFX there was a short FMV of the Farplane itself, where at the end of it there appears to be a giant sphere-like energy. What is that?

I agree. Its neither heaven or hell. Its a place to just see loved ones or to see the dead or something, but in FF X-2 it kinda sucked, cuz you don't go to the farplane until like the end of the game.

I think that the farplane was more meant for people than for the souls of dead (think about the pyreflies reacting to memories) that was the only place where that could happen, and so if the memories trigger the pyreflies (not the actual soul of the person/ thing) then i don't think that the souls are actually there at all. The actual souls of the people are in the tower of the dead (inside sin) remember? Like, right after Operation Mi'hen It shows Luzzu on it, and other souls of people who died. The farplane isn't heaven or hell, or a neutral. It's like one gigantic-like sphere. kinda like Zanarkand Dome. Just for the people.

Yeah, sort of like a purgatory or something. But for me, its heaven! Thats because theres so many fiends, and levelling up is fast! thats my reason, I dont say its heaven coz its very comfortable to be in with, hehe. Well, for me its not hell, no, not really.

Well the farplane, i think is just a place to meet the dead. Some may see it as a positive thing that you can meet other dead people, and speak to your loved ones.. while others may see it as hell such as edwardelric9104..

i dont really see why it has to be either. The Yevon religion doesnt describe a heaven or a hell in the game, so why ascribe the farplane to either? it is just a place where someones memories or mind, whatever, are projected into it and someone they know appears. Other then that its just a resting place, without the need of a devil or man with a white beard up in a cloud.
