Guys, they won't say his name because you get to modify it.

They don't say his name because, obviously, you got to change his name in FFX. Is this that big of a deal?

As far as I'm looking at it, it's more like when you're hurt by someone or you know your friend's hurt by someone, you wont mention their name. You'll refer to them by a ... **** I dont remembe rwhat it's called. Youll refer to them as either "he" or "she" or some other "pet name" ( that bitch? ). Figuring that Yuna's hurt by his leaving, it's reasonable for her to refer to Tidus as "him".

(Maybe it's a girl thing, but eh. Sensitivity is imperative.)

Also because you get to modify it in FFX. Consistency is nice.


Also, for the person who said that it wouldn't affect FFX-2 starters. I think it's nicer to not know a character's name, and simply his role... rather than to know a character's name, figure that he's important, but not know shit about him. I dont know.

They never knew his name. If you look back in Final Fantasy X, You'll notice that none of the characters, not even Tidus himself, says his name and Yuna never asked therefor, none of the characters know his name. If you want proof then I suggest you play Final Fantasy X once again and listen to see if they say his name. Anyways that's my philosophy on that question. I hope you will take it into consideration.




P.S. Don't you find it funny how Yuna kisses and falls in love with a guy that she doesn't know the name of. Anyways I'm tired so I'm off to bed goodnight members

Well, Tidus Rocks, Tidus probably tells Wakka behind the scenes, and Wakka tells everyone else behind the scenes too. So like, they knew his name, but they never showed any proof of it. Thats how I see it. Yeah, very crappy, but, for me, its a nice point of veiw at the moment.

Well- personally it doesn't bother me. I knew that they weren't saying Tidus's name... but it didn't bug at all. I like the games but I really just didn't care!

One of the blitzball players when you are on kilika says his name. So, obviously, they do know it.

It'll be nice if you could change Tidus's name on ffx-2 aswell.

wrong dude they do say his name..they just dont speak it with vocals. In the beginning of FFX they say whatever name you entered when you talk to the townspeople...other then that no mention.

This connects FFVIII with X. It mentions the ending of VIII so thats why its a spoiler

Spoiler: You could name Squall and Rinoa I remember clearly in the end they Rinoa and Squall Lipsync(speak out but dont each others names.) Squall says Rinoa when he thinks he sees her. Rinoa Says Squall when she thinks he is dead.

So I still don't get why they can't say Tidus. I honestly don't.

Spoiler: I thought the same thing. Yuna couldn't kiss Tidus. I mean come on. She spent 2 years mourning over the guy and no kiss. A passionate kiss would have made it a cry worthy ending(out of happiness of course) It would have been better if they had it in Macalania at the spring. I did not exactly understand why it was Zanarkand That would have been so sweet*feels all warm and fuzzy*.

I personaly think that it's just a ploy to get us so we don't know how EXACTLY to pronouce his name..

Alot of people THINK they know, but it's like saying ketchup. it could be pronouced CAT-SUP, or it could be pronounced KET-CHUP.

Same can be said for Tidus. I personally prefer TYE-DUS, instead of TEE-DUS.

I also think it's a subtle way to make people talk about the game.

I'm going with the "because you renamed him in FFX" excuse.

It's perfectly logical, if you think about it. In a game with voiceovers, it's hard to work with nameable characters. (Unless it's got smart AI which interprets and then pronounces names. That would rock.)

Also, RH, the answer to yours is simple: They can mouth each others' names because nothing prior to FFX had voiceovers, so the captions could easily be substituted with whatever names you choose.
