Squall and Seifer Superiority?

Ok, me and my friend have just started an all night game of FF8 having not played it for years.

We were immediatly wondering why Squall and Seifer have normal clothes on and the rest of the students including Zell, Selphie and Quistis are all in uniform.

Im not wondering about the characters personal motives as much as why the game creators would make it that way. Are they trying to put the characters across as superior to the rest of them or just trying to make them look moody and careless.

I'm assuming you haven't played further than the first 20 minutes of the game. When you go to Fire Cavern, neither Quistis nor Squall are in uniform. After the SeeD test, none of them are in uniform. For the rest of the game, none of them are(unless you're talking about the missile base mission). o.0

Though, looking at it from a different perspective, introducing a main character with a uniform on in the first five minutes of the game would be confusing, especially with a graphics engine like eight's, because Squall/Seifer might have just blended with the rest of the students. Not to mention, Balamb Garden has no dress code, unless instructed by your superiors(like in the SeeD mission). Obviously, Seifer was still disobeying direct orders during the SeeD Exam, which probably contributes to why he isn't a SeeD.

We have finished it. We are fully aware of their dress for the rest of the game. We were just wondering particularly about the beginning. We also have thought of a few theorys ourselves and asked just to find out what everyone else thought so that we could find out.

Its not that we desperatly need to know or else we wont be happy, it was just something that we wondered in passing.

I think they are trying to show the reblieous side of squall and siefer. The story kinda shows them both as rebelious punk Teens.

Mabey they are just trying to make sure some person didnt watch a movie seene and say,"which one is the main charecter, they all look the same."

This is not the first time they have done this though. If you think about it, Cloud on FF7 has his soldier uniform slightly different then other soldiers.

I noticed that Seifer doesn't wear the uniform whilst on the Dollet mission, since then i've just presumed he purposely didn't wear them to show how much of a rebel he is. I figured that Squall went along with wearing the uniform because he doesn't care what anyone thinks of him, so he just get's on with it.

i think the reason is that seifer is trying to be rebellious and squall just doesn't care. if you recall, squall is a loner type that doesn't like depending on anyone and a uniform shows you have/want help for an organization.

I'm pretty positive its for a couple of reasons.
1. Squall most likely had his on because of his spar practice with Seifer, he got hit hard and he had just woken up in the hospital and walked out after talking to the instructor. He probably didn't think of changing clothes since he had to head to class.
2. Seifer is probably to show pride as well as his boastfulness.
3. Squall is a loner, shows his personality quite often in the start by not talking and wanting to do things by himself; probably to show how is personality gets changed later by Rinoa and others, mainly and most influenced by Rinoa. (Yay Rinoa!)

Though they are quite superior to all the others in the Garden as well as SeeD, the main reasons are probably to show who they are and make your eyes focus more on them than other random students your never going to see again. (except the few who join your party later on)

Well they could have done that for the reason being that Squall is the main character and Seifer is one of his most important enemies. You know they have to make the main characters special from everyone else. Otherwise he would be no different then any of the other characters.

It probably does have something to do with them being main characters but even in Final Fantasy 7. Cloud wore the same uniform as everyone else when he dressed up as a solider, there was only one slight and minor difference and hardly noticeable at some points. FF9 had a similar costume change going on and they didn't look any different of my remembrance at least, going to be playing it soon so when I do I can tell you.

yeah, there are certain times you have to wear a uniform, but other than that, you wear the character's normal clothes.
