Why I love this game.

I take my memory card and place it in it's destined place, and reach for the CD case. I hold it in my hands and look upon it, brave Squall and valiant Seifer stand on either side of lovely Rinoa, the title emblazoned across the top "FINAL FANTASY VIII". My pulse quickens as I open the case and glimpse the disc. A white field with Squall's features shining in silvery relief greet me. I press the open button on the front of my PS2 and place the disk with utmost care into it's hallowed place. When another press of the button the PS2 withraws the disc into itself and the screen blackens.

I remove my weapon from it's place of peace, and feel the reassuring wieght of my Logitech Cordless Controller, it feels as though it belongs there, as ifthat is the missing piece of my hands which are now made whole. I sit in my cushioned throne and calmly watch the starting credits focusing my mind for the long journey ahead. The main screen comes up, I push the cursor up and hit "New Game".

"I'll be here..."
"Why?"
"I'll be 'waiting' here..."
"For what?"
"I'll be wating for you so, if you come here you'll find me. I promise."

A feather flies on the wind and the skies turn dark, Squall's gunblade comes spinning from the heavens and the battle is joined. Shivers run down my spine. Squall and Seifer dueling, the fight going one way then another Squall attacks, Seifer uses magic, he raises his gunblade...and strikes. Blood. Squall looks up in angerand disbelief and strikes back giving Seifer a scar to match.

And I breathe.

The journey has begun I fight long into the night and the sun is showing anew before I notice that night has come and gone. I reluctantly surrender to sleeps enticements, but find all I can do as I lay in bed is look ahead to tomorrow and the time when I can continue on this grand journey that is Final Fantasy VIII.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whew, that was good. Glad I got that off my chest. Last night I began a new game of FFVIII. Final Fantasy VIII was my introduction to the Final Fantasy series and, indeed, RPG's. I remember when my older brother first brought home a friends copy and how I watched him play{because he was the mean brother and wouldn't let me play} and became fascinated by this game.

I was still inexperianced in gaming and this was the first RPG I had ever seen. It was so new and different, there was so much you could do, so much freedom, characters and stories far more intricate than anything I had yet been exposed to. I soon aquired a copy of my own and entered this whole new world myself.

I quickly found that I related to Squall in many ways. I never was one to talk much, particularly with someone I don't know. I've always been a bit of a loner, often finding myself just unable to bear being around other people and having to seek someplace to be alone. I think alot and sometimes talk to myself, and I saw similar traits in Squall. Then came Rinoa. I had a bit of a crush on her{and perhaps still do}, she's just...I don't know, special. Ive heard on occassion some people blabbing about how these characters aren't real, well I defy those people to give me a working definition of real. It doesn't exist. 'Real' is perhaps the only thing that isn't real.

Anyway, to this day when I conjure my vision of my perfect match I see elements of Rinoa's character in her. This made the game all the better as I truly cared about the characters. I wanted everything to work out fine and was willing to do whatever I had to to make that happen.

One of the great things about VIII is that even though you have this great epic story going on, it's in the background. The real story, the real focus, is Squall and Rinoa. I've always been a bit of a hopeless romantic. I cry at old romance movies {In a manly way of course} which I watch when no one's around. I found this love story to be just wonderful. It truly made the game. If Final Fantasy VIII and love are wrong, I don't want to be right.

I'd like to hear why all of you other FFVIII lovers out there love this game. Feel free to be less verbose than I.

The journey beckons. I'm about to go to the ballroom. It's my favorite scene.

A very good way of expressing yourself.

Yeah, FFVIII is my second favourite FF game as it in some ways reminds me of Final Fantasy VII, mainly because its kind of more in the future and has some fancy weapons such as the gun blade, FFVIII also has a really great storyline with some great characters to lead you through it. Great game!

You need to find yourself a girl mate...

Just kidding, I have no girl either and am usually stuck playing video games with great stories myself or reading R.A. Salvatore, as you obviously have from your name. Even though FF8 definitely wasn't my first or my favorite Final Fantasy, I still remember the day I bought it and the anticipation of getting home from the store to play it.

The reason I, Sir Launcelot, 'love' Final Fantasy VIII is the story. It is a very good story.

I AGREE!! FFVIII is one of the best FF out there. The FMV's were amazing, the limit break looked so cool, the story line was also AMAZING.

I have played this game so many times... And it just keeps getting better and better. And I have the sound track.

Final Fantasy VIII for me was almost perfect. I enjoyed that game so much i played it over and over plenty of times. The only problem that i had was that the battle system was mediocre. The story on the other hand, i really enjoyed.

I agree :] It's a wonderful game. It's definitely my favourite.
This Is Just My Opinion By The Way ^^.
I love the story-line. I like most of the characters (though Quistis annoys me occasionally). The music is amazing. Triple Triad owns, compared to Tetra Master. And even though I'm still a bit confused about some of the refining and mini-quests I find it easy to understand.
