I prefer the Draw method. I never use magic all that much unless it's Cure or Protect/Shell, that sort of thing, and even then only on boss fights. Drawing made the game ridiculously easy. I could devote about an hour to going to a spot where there were enemies that had firaga, thundaga, and blizzaga, and just draw 100 of each for whoever needed it.

100 Ultima junctioned to Strength was a nasty nasty thing. It almost wasn't fair to Ultimecia. And like Tiffany was saying, 100 Death to Status Attack was freaking tight.

The only thing I didn't like was when I'd need to use Curaga, I'd have to make sure it wasn't the character that had it junctioned to HP.

Other than that, I liked the system. I'm always reluctant to use MP cuz I never wanna like run out of it ya know? I'm just weird like that I suppose. I feel the need to preserve it unnecessarily.

Oh I also disliked how I missed a couple GF's the first time around because I failed to draw them from bosses. I didn't realize what they were or that you had to draw them to get them, so I missed a few like Siren and Leviathan the first time around.

But yeah, I liked the system. It was kind of a pain to be walking around the Islands Closest to Heaven/Hell getting those hidden draw points so I could have like 100 Ultima and stuff, but yeah, I dealt with it alright.

MP is the better style of magic.. though the junction system was extremely well don.. MP is the way to go.. at least your spekss are meemorized or you can use those spells repedetly ... whereas with draw magic.. it could fail... it wasnt always reliable.. and thne also in ff8 nottoo many ppl actually used magic because of the gfs.. i preferred swords and doom train on t rexaur.. anyway as for magic vs draw the prs is with draw you can use your enemies magic against them.. or keep it as your own for however long you want.. con you only got 8 pages of magic.. in the end mp can cost you a lot if you need to heal at a critical point and you dont have the ability to... and then theres also the fact gf's abilities can make you spells later on if tou have the correct items... im still vting for mp usage.. sorry to all who disagree but i hate the draw system immensley

I like the MP method. Mainly because its easier to us and you can recover it. Draw magic is a waste of time in my oppinion.

Yeah I agree it is annoying whenever you get a new character you have to share out the magic. Half the time you dont have enough magic which means you have to go draw loads which is REAL boring.

I found FFVIII's GF/Junction/Draw System unique and enjoyable. But in a tough battle, ethers can save your life, where if you're out of Lifes/Full-Lifes/Curagas and can't draw any... you could be very well screwed

Along with being a fan of major franchses, I'm also a fan of Adult Swim (Boondocks, Robot Chicken, and Samurai Champloo for starters)

Anyway, sorry. Let's go back on topic

First things first In my view FF8 was the weakest FF on Playstation, so unfortunately im biased.
I felt the draw/junction system was a terrible idea which was poorly used. Let us say IF before Ultemecia you ran out of Curaga's, then there was nothing to draw it off in the castle, and you could not exit. You'd be screwed.
Now this was unlikely but it could happen, running out of a critical spell at a critical time like cure, esuna, but because they could be drawn items weren't carried by a lot of people.. Not a good idea.

Also certain spells were in certain places only. Sure you can say the same for materia as well ( only way) but no basic spell was only in one place. Summons they were, W-summon yes but not basic. Cure, esuna many places.
Plus it dragged out battles if you wanted 99 of all spell, dangerous agains't a strong enemy all for the sake of say 99 aura's.

Plus junctioning wasn't that good if you didn't find spells lile Ultima etc, and didn't know how to refine cards then you were left with things like 99 firaga on attack etc not that useful.

Summons giving you abilites I did like as some were genuinely useful ( revive +), no complaints there.

Sorry some of that was biased. But the systems are poor to me.

That's half true

If you don't stock up on uber-useful magic (Like when going to Ultimecia's Castle), you're obviously not prepared. So for friendly advice: Stock up on cure/revival magic first, then any other magic you find important.

Not to mention there's the several hidden draw points found on the Heaven and Hell Islands.

I really thought that the Draw system was innovative.

Though I wish it didn't take quite so long to get what you need, I could understand why.. The way they made it is if you have the right GFs, and a couple of hours on your hands, all you have to do is just draw, draw, draw, and you'll have no trouble with any of the bosses in the game.

I thought it was somewhat refreshing! though i'd still stick with MP in the long run.

I like junctioning for a differnet reason than most people.
Without junctioing, it shows that you are powerless without GF's, and it's a resonable explainnation why any normal person could pull a thundaga out of nowhere.
