I mainly use Squall, Zell and Rinoa. I use these three because they are my favourite characters in the game. I also believe that they are the strongest members in the group. Zell and Rinoa have awesome limit breaks and great weapons. I don't use Irvine because of the simple reason that..I don't like him!
 I will use Selphie and Quistis sometimes but hardly, only to level them up.

Well my main cast of people are Squall (obviously), Zell, and Rinoa. But there is a good section of the game where Rinoa is gone or missing so in that instance as a backup I'll use Quistis instead. She's strong and serves as a good team mate, even though she's not as good as Rinoa, for me at least I still think she's pretty good.

hm i used Rinoa and either Selphie and Quistis and ocaisionally Zell not much Irvine though for some reason.

Squall cause I had to (I'd rather use Seifer if I could)
Zell because he was powerful, hyperactive and had the bestest, funnist limit break. Also for his "know-it-all-Zell" moments of glory! Quistis because of her blue magic and stable stats. I also found her the best female character of the three.
