FFVIII remake!

There's no doubt Final Fantasy VIII is one of the best games in the series, and it does have a gigantic fanbase, but if Square actually go ahead and do a remake, it will always be Final Fantasy VII, not because I personally like it more, not because more money will be made, but there are simply more fans of Final Fantasy VII than Final Fantasy VIII, and knowing Square, they would remake Final Fantasy VII over any other Final Fantasy game. Why? Because the fanbase for Final Fantasy VII is extremely high, and the fans will always want a Final Fantasy VII remake over Final Fantasy VIII.

That's my opinion, anyway.

FF8 and FF9 are the only ones that haven't gotten a remake/port or spin off. FF8 did came to the PC like FF7 did though. But that hardly counts. Perhaps it will be coming to the PS3 PSN store in the future via download.

Well, in Japan, FFVIII was actually more popular than FFVII (so I'm told by my brother). So it's really America that's more into FFVII (though there is still a bigger FFVII fanbase than FFVIII fanbase). We already know that Square-Enix is probably gonna remake FFVII, since they've already announced that they were already thinking about and planning it, but this is the first time I've heard about FFVIII being remade. I really doubt that FFVIII is gonna be remade, but hey, it's sold more than any other FF game, and, even though America didn't really take to it, it still has a very good and very dedicated fanbase.

If anyone has any articles on the matter, or any links to sites where Square-Enix announced that they were thinking about remaking FFVIII, it would be greatly appreciated.

They haven't, this is all conjecture by fans. As far as I know SE killed the VII remake rumor some time ago, by the way. It'll probably still happen, though.

That said, based on what they're doing now, ie porting and remaking the older games, I think it's quite possible that we will see something similar for the PSOne generation of Final Fantasies in the future. I expect that their first step will be to port the original games onto either PS3 or PSP, just like they did with I-VI on the GBA. Then, again like the older games, they will do a complete makeover with updated graphics and voice acting and maybe some minor translation updates if necessary. We probably won't see said remakes until either late in PS3's life or maybe not even until PS4.

That's just my theory on all these remake theories, anyways. It'll happen eventually, I think they're just waiting for the next generation of gamers so they can maximize their profits.

And like the suckers we are, we'll all buy them. I'd say if you see them releasing ports, if you've still got the originals don't bother cause the remakes will be coming down the pipe once they're done milking that.
