I think a remake is pointless. A Laguna prequel to Final Fantasy VIII would be better.

Remaking FFVIII would just be annoying, although the graphics would be cool and the voices etc.
I think a movie about it would be great, I only played the game for the storyline, FFVIII and FFX storylines I fell inlove with.

If they remade it for PS3 though, id be pissed. Then i'd have to buy a PS3 JUST to play the game and its like, where do the people get the money from to pay for this? PS3s are going to be like $400 or something.
They'd be better off making it for PS2, I think it would sell a lot more.

I dunno about the sequels though, I liked FFX-2 But i didnt like the fighting system, to me it was just too messy and I wouldnt want that to be the same for FFVII-2 and spoil the whole game.

Fernester, I, Sir Launcelot, agree with your idea for a Final Fantasy VIII prequel to be based on the adventures of Final Fantasy VIII character Laguna Loire. Either that, or Square-Enix could do a Final Fantasy VIII sequel. A remake for such a game as good as Final Fantasy VIII would probably ruin it (like Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes did with Metal Gear Solid).

But the basis for this thread makes it seem unlikely to me because you were HEARING from OTHER PEOPLE. I thought you got me confirmation that FFVIII was going to be remade. You got me excited. It is still unconfirmed whether or not SquareEnix is remaking FFVIII, so I'm not going to be totally closed minded to the idea. When it is confirmed I will be the first to post about it ! I would love it if they did remake FFVIII because I loved the game. It has to be my favorite of the series. A remake would bring the emotional story to life. I'm not so much in it for the graphics as much as I am to see the characters get life blown into them. And they better not edit the remake if it comes or I'll kill 'em. Keep in mind if they do confirm a remake it may take 2-4 years to come up with a game. Especially with a game of FFVIII size. You just don't see them that long anymore. And thats exactly the scary part. They might edit it. If they do and I repeat I will eat there children and kill them (in the reverse order of course).

FYI to you Xbox users...there is almost no way in blue hell would Sony let FFVIII get over to you guys. Thats like moving Halo II over to Playstation 2. Ok maybe not that bad. Final Fantasy has been resurrected by Sony and did REMARKABLE. Thats why it isn't on the Xbox. Because they don't need it to be.

The idea of the remake appearing on Nintendo Wii (next generation Nintendo system if I named it correctly), isn't totally out of the blue. I mean Nintendo does own the rights to Final Fantasies 1-6 (thats why the characters don't appear in any Sony games) and they have tried to sell their Gamboy Advance remakes on the markets, though they don't do nearly as well as the Final Fantasies on Sony's consoles. Maybe with some marketing agreement it could appear on the Nintendo console...but that may also mean forfeiting the right of FFs 1-6. I'm not as business or legal savvy as needed to completely comprehend the complexity of their business deals, but there is a much higher chance of the remake appear on the Nintendo consoles then the Microsoft consoles.

I would totally and completely be against any type of sequel to Final Fantasy VIII. I mean I'm judging this off of X-2 but thats all I got from them so far. Sure FFX-2 was a quality game. But was there a sequel needed for it? Nope. I liked the story how it ended nice and bittersweet. Happy endings are nice yes, but this ending was a quality ending and didn't need any elaboration. That being said I liked the way FFVIII ended. A few years ago I tried to make a fanfic sequel to FFVIII. I couldn't. I fell in love with just the length of the ending. Sure it left loose threads but thats the beauty of it. Loose threads and uncertainties are great for discussing with fellow fanatics. Why do you think the Star Trek series is so talked about and discussed about? Because of the semi-intelligent discussions about them. I mean do we know whether Seifer was posessed or whether he made those choices of his free will. In the ending you see him laughing and smiling with his friends. We don't know do we? Thats what fanfiction is for. Please leave the endings end in Final Fantasies.

That would be awesome, but I don't think it will happen, at least not anytime soon because of 12 coming out and all the attention they are focusing on 13, the release of 3 on the DS, etc. But I remember that Square WAS going to remake 7, 8, and 9 for the PS2 but did not becuase they lost like 32 million bucks on the Spirits Within movie.

I would love a remake of FFVIII. It was the best, most unique FF game ever. If they do make a sequel/prequel, they will probably remake FFVIII or make a movie. It's been too long in between FFVIII and now, unlike FFX and FFX-2. A time lag that much would kill the game. So they would probably remake the first one, then release the second one a year later.

However, the odds of a remake/sequel/prequel are pretty small. I think they grew with the success of FFVII Advent Children and the new game.

Personally, I expect them to make a trilogy of FFVIII movies if they do it at all. They couldn't edit it because every bit of the story is so important. In all likely-hood, there would be more than one to cover the extremely long game.

Or they could just remake the game. That would be soooo much better.

As for a prequel, what are you people thinking? Did anybody actually LIKE playing as Laguna? I played FFVIII for Squall and Rinoa. To see a game set in the same world without them would be nothing short of HERESY.

As for a sequel, well, it's kind of hard to have a sequel when

Spoiler: the main character dies at the end. I played FFVIII for Squall and Rinoa. Their relationship and storyline made the horrible draw system bearable, the awful card game acceptable. She didn't have the same character development that Yuna did.

It wouldn't be the best idea because the game is fine the way it is and should be left alone originally. A sequel is a bad idea as well, because the game ended in a good way and if there was one, what would it be about? However, a prequel wouldn't be a bad idea at all on Laguna. We could find out more about him or something.

We already know pretty much everything about him! Why do you think the Star Wars prequel trilogies sucked so badly? We already knew what was going to happen. There is no point in playing a game with characters you don't really care for if you already know the story. They should either remake it or make it into a movie of some kind. No prequel. Squall is the heart of FFVIII, and Rinoa is the soul. Without them and their relationship, FFVIII would have fallen flat on its face. Seriously, I didn't play FFVIII for the gameplay. I played it for the story, like every Final Fantasy. To already know the story of an FF game defeats the entire purpose.

However, a remake would be acceptable because you wouldn't be buying an entirely new game, just a game that you've already beaten and want to play with better graphics. It's like going to the remake of King Kong. You already know what happens, you just want to see the newest, coolest graphics and special effects applied to one of your favorite stories.

I think I remake would be pretty damn awesome. I mean, the only big let down were the cruddy in-game graphics.

But I think a prequel would be even better. It would be awesome if they did both. A movie with the storyline would be cool too cos it had such an awesome storyline.

What would be great would be 7. 8 and 9 remakes all on one disc for ps3, like they did with sonic on the sonic mega collection
