I liked the music, and Quistis. I love her. Junctions are good, as I don't have to spend countless hours powerlevelling to beat some boss. The story was also quite enjoyable.

I loved the story and character designs! they were awesome! although i wasn't to sure about the whole space thing seeing as space was a brief part of the storyline for FFVII (don't know about the games before VII though - not played them...) ... still a good game though!

There were several things I liked playing FFVIII.

For one, I liked the selection of magic you have access to throughout the game. Spells like "double", "triple", "aura", "aero", "firaga". There seemed to be a lot of spells you were able to use and what's even better is you could use spells like Ultima early on in the game.

The GF's were nice as well. Each of them were different in their own unique ways. Eden, Shiva, Alexander, and Bahumut were my favorite GF's. Another thing was how you were able to refine magic and items from them.

And the music in the game was pretty nice. Second close compared to FFIX's music but I did like the beginning of the game when Squall was facing Seifer and even when you're in Balamb.

The storyline, character growth, the characters themselves, the entirety of the Junctioning System, the fact that the story progressed and went along until you found out about Ultimecia instead of learning everything about the final boss and forming a ragtag team before even 5 hours of the game go by (though games with that setting are in no way bad games); these would have to be my favorite things about FFVIII. There might be more, but these are the main reasons why I liked the game so much.

EDIT: The music has to be some of the best in a Final Fantasy game, in my opinion. Nobuo Uematsu really outdid himself with the soundtrack.

the opening credits and soundtrack make it worthwhile loading up a new game all the time.
i liked the junctioning system due to the fact that it made you think twice about battering enemies with your strongest magic. meaning you had to think about battles unlike ffvii where your materia when powerful enough could murder any enemy without doing anything to you.

The main 2 reasons I really enjoyed Final Fantasy VIII were.

1. The story was somewhat set in our time era. With a little futuristic add to it. It had good action.

2. Honestly, it is my favorite love story out of all the Final Fantasy games. Next to FF9 and FF6.

What I think is the best thing about Final Fantasy VIII was the characters, the battle system, the storyboard, and I loved the music soundtrack. This game was beeter than Final Fantasy VII in my opinion.
