Final Fantasy VIII was the very second FF game that I have ever played in my life. The first being Final Fantasy VI but having that stupid ass mix up they called it FFIII and I had confused that and thought it was FFIV called FFII. Well, anyway, the first was Final Fantasy VI and at the time I hated the game but later on when playing Anthology's, that soon changed. Of course, we're talking about Final Fantasy VIII.
Final Fantasy VIII is a really great game to play. Personally, FFI-FFIX all have my favor and quite possibly, Crystal Chronicles and Mystic Quest since I heard they were good and have never played them to judge or seen them play. Sure sure, in some people's opinions...the draw system is annoying, the junctioning is horribly confusing at first, some of the characters were not up to standards, the storyline was cheesy, and the ending wasn't good. However, I beg to differ ladies and gentlemen. I have had experience with the innate classes of FFI, FFIV, FFVI, and FFIX; the complexity of the original FFII; the job system of FFV; the materia system of FFVII, and even the fricken sphere system of FFX (of which I am not very fond of this game..ugh...); and finally the draw and junctioning system of FFVIII. I have never played the original FFIII but I am assuming that you can change classes and such, but I am not too sure. My whole point of explaining that out was that, I have had an open mind to the many FF games to actually compare them all together. Quite frankly, the drawing system and the junctioning system deserves a chance just like the many other systems in the other FF's do. I actually like all of these well developed and unique systems that Square has come up with from FFI-FFIX. At first, I had no fricken idea of what to do or anything. Thanks to my close friend Alex (who once came here as NeoKayin or Kayin-something), I eventually learned. At first it was shaky because even he had to get used to everything in the game...and these were only the basics of FFVIII!! He soon got the hang of it and began to try and teach me what it was all about. He told me about junctioning Magic, Draw, GF, etc etc and how you have to use Draw to draw different types of Magic from different monsters and stocking up since it runs out and shit. It sounded complicated at first but pretty soon, I had myself junctioning GF and having Squall acquainted with Ifrit and other characters with other GF's, I had myself junctioning the Draw and drawing up different Magic from different enemies while I scoped them out on different terrains, and sooner or later I adopted Alex's battling/juntioning/drawing/gaming style. In the beginning, everything of what I did was reflecting of Alex's style. Pretty soon though, I took it all to another level. Instead of junctioning the basic magics of Lightning, Fire, Ice, and Cure to around 30...I started to go out and get EVERY kind of magic such as Sleep, Dispell, Esuna, Poison, etc...along with Lightning, Fire, Ice, and Cure. I eventually would go so far as to get around 50 of each and if I was crazy enough, I would go for more! Pretty soon, when we got used to the junctioning system with the stats and all, I soon was building up my stats as well. Some of my styles of game play, role play, and even some things in real life such as self esteem, evolved from his teachings. Pretty soon, I was one with the battle field of FFVIII!! Now, moving on to the characters. After playing the many different FF's and seeing the many characters, I truly don't think that these characters are poorly developed. Again, Square, in my opinion, did a great job with all the character development. Heck, I personally didn't have any problems with anyone in FFVIII. Heh, FFVIII is my favorite FF after all. I actually liked the storyline of FFVIII. The music added to it all as well. Anyone here who likes it can relate to what I mean. The only problem, which was soon to be solved, was the ending. Everything was going along as usual in a Final Fantasy atmosphere until the very end. I had thought that they were going to make it twisted and have them all die or something! Of course, at the end, that changed. Another satisfactory ending. And, seeing the ending of FFVII and FFIX, FFVIII's ending was pretty damn good. All three of those game's endings were good in their own way. I don't know but I like this game a lot. I think it is one of the best FF's in the original series. I say original meaning, FFI-FFIX and not including all the side games and newer games that had sequels.. *shudders* ..and shit like that. |

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I loved the game, I went through it three times and got nearly everything. Until my 4th and final trip where I literally got everything and my hands on a Pocketstation so I could get the ultrarare Minimog and Friendship items as well as a few others. I think the summons looked wonderful and were all fairly decent, except Eden which was a tad overkill and overdramatic IMO. I thought the junction system was interesting, but killed the hopes of a magic user in the game as using magic meant lowering stats. However the customization was cool and I liked not having to worry about finding so much treasure all over the world, with the minimal amount of equipment that each character wore. While I hate minigames with a passion, the card game in VIII was more enjoyable, had better rewards, and was actually legit in comparison to FF IX's annoying, no reward, randomized/controlled by the computer/AI card game. This is easily in my top 3 all time fav FF's, probably number 3 behind Tactics and IV.
I loved the storylines too... but I think maybe Squall ruined that a little by acting too... needy, spoilt and... well, just plain cold. I mean, c'mon, the game rocked but I wish they could've just played around with Squall's personality a little more... why was he almost constantly depressed? Jeez, sometimes I just wanted to take him by the shirt and scream "CHEER UP YOU ****ING MEANIE! jeez, what would that loser, Zidane do?"
... yes the word meanie IS appropriate .
I liked FF8 since I'm in grade school! At first, I find it a little difficult but when my friends taught me how to play it, it became easy for me!!! The graphics are cool but some of the game critics it's not cool! The soundtrack was awesome!! Their FMV were cool!! The story was easy to understand. Uhhh... I just love FF8! Ok? That's all! Thanks!!
This is my favourite Final Fantasy of all time so obviously I like it. This is the first FF I ever played and I was addicted to it from start to finish. The characters are unique and all have different personalities which makes the game very interesting and enjoyable to play. The backgrounds are beautiful and the storyline is excellent.
FFVIII will always be the best FF game in my opinion. Mainly because I thought the whole sorceress war business was very interesting. Also, all the characters were so complex and had problems of their own. Of course, most of the FF games involve some sort of love story.. and with Squall I enjoyed watching him grow and actually change his ways. I also liked how it was based so much on a military stand point.. how each of the characters had their own set of 'gardens' and such. Even when they went into 'dream world' I thought that was a great idea for a sub story line type of situation.
Also, that game has a personal type of history with me.. but I'm not going into it. |
Okay before I say why I loved final fantasy VIII i must first say FINAL FANTASY X-2 WAS BY FAR THE WORST PEICE OF SHIT I HAVE EVER WASTED MY TIME BEATING.
okay now that that is done final fantasy viii is one of my faveorite games of all time. it is definatley on my top 10 game list. It had a great story line and every one in the game had their own personality. I personally connected with many of the charoctors and when i first beat it a few years ago it was a plot full of suprises. It is just the greatest ff game and it always will beAs for junction, it is a great system that u can easily master. Using a combonation of junction and card mod you can become extremely powerful in the begining of the game. ...... o yea the battle system was great
Dont get me wrong i love the final fantasy series of games, ect.
But this game didnt really stick out much for me. After having played seven and nine i went to eight. the graphics, sure there better then seven but the plot itself seemed so damn short and lacking things in places. Not only that the magic sytem, the whole drawing magic to use it and or upgrading it with massive amounts of the smaller lvl magic that had been drawn, no. My all time preferred magic junctioning system would have to be the ingenius materia. It levels, you dont need more then one to get a higher lvl of its magic when its reaches its max it makes a new one. The plot itself was stretched allitle to far they mainley put cgi cinemas out the ass to make up for the plot. Sure nine was cartoonish like but hell it had a somewhat better plot and system for lvling and magic. Hell Six was a 15 or 16 bit game and i still think it blows all but seven out of the water in plot and overall game play. For any of you out there willing to argue on behalf of my post in regards to this, know this.... This is my opinion as I am entitled to it so hopefully no hard feelings to you fans of VIII.
