Favorite Final Fantasy 8 Character

The old threads are usually some of the best , so who's your favorite character then ??

I'd have to say Squall , mainly cause I can relate to him alot and I share a number of personality traits with him

So hard to choose... They wer eall such terrible characters which such horrible problems... I guess I'll go with Selphie. She may not be the best fighter, but at least she didn't have any emotinal issues.

I'd say Quistis. Interesting character, nice limit breaks.

I dont see what people see about Squall to be honest. All the Squall fans seem to walk around saying 'Oh I'm just like squall I am'

Lol. No offense either, but I always saw Squall as a complete asshole. I don't think I'd be prouad to be that way.

At the start of the game particularly, i'd have to whole heartilly agree.. heh, he wasnt very thoughtful towards Quistis when she took him out that night to chit-chat and rant. Squall was like "meh, whatever, bitch, ****-off im busy" when Quistis was really trying to get personal and all.

Heh, but, my fave character would have to be Quistis in actual fact.. ive always had a thing for Blue Mages, and she happens to be one of teh sexiest Blue Mages in any FF, IMO ofcourse.. she has good leadership skills aswell, and she is rather mature.

I'd go for Selphie or Zell because they are fun characters. They make the game entertaining and funny. Squall was just all blah blah depression, got on my nerves a bit. But Zell and Selphie were more bubbly and just up for a laugh, a bit like me I guess.
Quistis was funny too. I don't know how much a laughed when I saw see had a whip for a weapon, I'm so immature. There I go relating to Zell and Selphie

I'd have to say Rinoa becuz she was so fascinating IMO.

Selphie, I just think she is really sexy as well as kind (which is rare).
And her victory dance turns me on

well anyway back on topic. My favourite character would be Zell. His limit break can deal out a hell of a lot of damage if you memorise the keys to push...if you play it enough. His personality is very refreshing in a way, he is the comic relief to the tense situations and is always a target for seifer's criticism. He also seems to have a bit of an anger problem but everyone lets learn from Zell's example and when you feel angry..go beat up weird monsters....or seifer....or eat a hotdog whatever floats your boat.

I really liked Rinoa, as you can probably tell. I think I can relate to her in some ways. When her mother died, Rinoa blamed her father for it, but I can't blame her. Her father was always ignoring her, not even caring for her. She built a wall around herself and her father, going on with life. My parents haven't died, but some pretty hard things have happened to me in life and I'd like to atone for them. But whenever I'm sad, I build a wall around me and my friends, trying to forget about things. Rinoa is always kind, unlike me, but she's always trying to be the life of the party, trying to do the right thing. Rinoa was the best character, in my opinion.

Am I .... like the ONLY person ..... who actually LIKES Squall ?? Or more to the point .... UNDERSTANDS him ?

Come on people , give the guy a break. He didn't exactly have the easiest of lives. Everyone he loved just vanished ... he never really knew friendship from fear of losing it.

So .... give the guy a chance. Sure at first he was all death , doom and gloom but he turned out alright in the end.

How on earth could you understand a bunch of pixels? So, maybe he didn't have the easiest of lives, but all came over well in the end. Squall is a main character, with no feelings, no nothing. There were much better characters, like Selphie, Rinoa and Zell.

Well then , if Squall has " no feelings " then why did he go up into space with Rinoa on disc 3 then ? Why did he carry Rinoa all the way to Esther ? Why did he risk HIS life to save hers ?

Do these facts and others not show he has emotions ? The emotion of love ? So when you say he has no feelings ..... your wrong. His emotions and feelings are what spured him on throughout the adventure.

And it's not the " bunch of pixels " that I understand fool. It's the personality and actions of the character that I understand. I understand how his past has affected him.

It's because of events in his past : Losing his parents , losing his " Big sis " Elle etc. that he turned out the way he did. He pushes people away from fear of losing them.

So you see , he might not be one of the best of characters , but he is one of the most real characters. He has a believeable past and one that some people can relate to and understand.

So do not go and judge him on base value people. So of you may think he is one of Squares " failures " and that he is a totally unreal character. But in truth he is probably one of the more realistic of the Final Fantasy characters.

You do have a point there, Squall. But I don't think anyone wants to argue with you in a thread, where they could get banned. Do not try and incite fights.

But, anyway, so I stay on topic, my favourite character has always been Rinoa Heartilly. I have two shrines dedicated to her and have bookmarked so many others. She is what I call a character you can understand. Rinoa will tell everyone how she feels, despite if they dislike her or not. She is kind and caring, even though Seifer was on the "bad side", Rinoa still tried to save him, because her old feelings lingered... her past is something you can understand. Her mother waited for Laguna forever, but he never came back for her, so Julia turned to Generald Caraway, who showed feelings toward her. The two fell in love, got married and had Rinoa. When Julia died, Rinoa formed a wall around her father and herself, blaming her father for the damage done. Rinoa is my favourite character, now and forever.
