why isnt the buster sword the ultimate weapon? it's really cool looking and its huge!

It's not the ultimate weapon because that's how the game was designed. Seriously. It's the sword he got from Zack. Why would the starting weapon be the Ultimate weapon? That's just stupid. >.>;

Though.. from a plot perspective, I guess I could see how that is possible.

I think he means it should be the ultimate weapon because of its looks. lol Well I think it looks very good too, but I have to say I could name a few of his weapons I preferred.

I dunno...back when I first played FF7, I kind of felt the same way. Granted FF7 was my first RPG so I didn't know all that much about buying completely new weapons...I was used to upgrading what I had if anything, and generally whatever weapon is on the cover art being the ultimate for the main character (think the sword of time from the Zelda series. Though thats not that great of an example)

So I held onto the Buster Sword on the principle that at some point in the game it might get super powered. I don't even know if you can sell the Buster Sword though...some things you can't. Like Nanaki's momento he got from Seto, the Seraph Comb.

I know better now of course, but at the time it seemed odd to me.

Well the Buster Sword is the first of many you get in the game. It looks cool, but is also rather plain almost, just a huge thick sword, looks like it was built for slaughter. I like the actaul other swords in the game, but i can see why you'de ask that since it's what he has in AC and all. Well he has that with 59294939 attachments to it. Yeah though overall it's a good sword but not my fave.

No spoiler boxes for you! The statute of limitations for FFVII spoilers has passed! Not only in that a sequel was released (AC), but that it's almost 10 years old!

Well, the Buster Sword is on FFVII's cover partially due to the story connections. It's the sword that led to the eventual loss of Sephiroth's (actual, not astral-projected) legs.
Also it's a keepsake from Zack, and it probably helped maintain Cloud's delusions about his life. (Where he uh...you know...*STOLE* some bits of Zack's life story)
But mainly, it's there to make you, the first-time FFVII player go "Huh, this guy uses a really f*cking big sword."

In AC, the Sword marks Zack's (grave? The spot where he was gunned down, at least,) and Cloud ...somehow... obtains a 6-part sword that combines into a sword of similar size and shape to that of the Buster Sword. Proably as some kind of sentimental tribute or somesuch thing.

If you take a good look at the buster sword you'll see that it's a tad bit rusty. We can't have ultimate weapons being rusty can we? Actually, if I remember right, you couldn't sell or get rid of the characters starting weapons could you? I thought at the end you would be forced to use the starting weapons to defeat Sephiroth.

The buster sword wasn't Clouds it was Zacks remember and if he got it from Zack before he made it to Midgar then why would they make it the "Last" Final Weapon?

It's his legendary sword, if they made it Cloud's ultimate weapon, that would mean people would have to wait for ages until they can obtain it but because they gave it Cloud at the very start of the game, it got his trademark that way.

And its an awsome sword!

Actually, if I remember correctly..

In AC, Cloud had a different weapon, yes? Wasn't there a point in the video where he's standing by the rusted version of the sword on the motorbike?

I never really liked the buster sword. I could never wait to get a new sword to use, because I thought it was so.. ugly, and big. No grace about it.

i think the buster sword should be the best weapon at the end, like on FFX when wakka was telling his brother, Chappu, About Tidus, The next moment you have new atrbutes.(cant spell) I think when Aeris dies, That Cloud's Buster Sword gets lot of Materia places and extra power, ALOT OF POWER. I dont know if it would work since Cloud got it from Zack, but still, thats a good stament right?

the Buster Sword is Zack's ultimate weapon. my theory on it at least is, that Cloud, despite his strength etc. never learned to unleash the Buster Sword's full power and potential as Zack did. Sort of like, no one can use the Masamune blade as good as Sephiroth (as seen in the part where they find it impaling the Shin-Ra president's back). Could be the same thing applied to the Buster Sword?

Interesting idea, but you just assume that it's Zack's ultimate weapon because it's the only wepon you ever see him use. It *might not* have been his strongest, but it was definately his trademark weapon.

I myself use the baseball bat. Not because it's strong, but because there are nails sticking out of it. Perhaps Zack is doing the same thing.

*Trivia* Several of Cloud's limit breaks were originally Zack's. The confirmed ones are Blade Beam and Omnislash.

As for the Masamune, Sephiroth's mastery of it stems from the fact that he's the only person who can use it. (Fact: 'tis stated so in the game)

Everyone else's wrist would snap. And he uses it one handed most of the time :shock:
