Vincent - Should I Bother For Now?

Right. My first time through FFVII (or any FF game for that matter) and im loving it (so no spoilers please!). 1st disc, Im in Nibelheim (not the flashback but when you actually go there fo' real). My friend told me that Vincent was here so using an FAQ i got to the safe and opened it. Was destroyed by the boss (i think i made him loose half his health at least as the red part of him went after a while). I tried again and didnt do any better so i decided to go for Yuffie instead which i managed successfully. My guys are levels 21-24. Should I leave Vincent till my characters are at least level 30 to beat the boss or could i beat him if i just get my battle strategy right? Also should my guys be a higher levels by this stage?

Cheers.

PS. How far would you say i am through disc one?

You should be able to beat the boss, just try and try again. If not, train up a bit before. I don't suggest going further as it is harder going back (not really hard may i add). I also found Vincent to be a really valuable asset to the team, both story-wise and in-battle.

Try equiping your best armour and weapons, and have good materia. Try not to overload the materia and have one party member as a regular healer to take down the Lost Number. When you get him you will get the Odin materia aswell as the basement key so itis VERY useful.

EDIT: You are about half-way through disc 1

A tip. Get Aeris to her second level one limit (Seal Evil) if you haven't already and have her use it in the battle. It should stop Lost Number for a while so you can pound on it. Choco/Mog works too.

But yeh, I'd go for it now if I were you.

Here's the thing: The sooner you get good old Vincent Valentine from Nibelheim, the more useful you will find him. This guy was a perma-member in my party, which consisted of Cloud, Cid and Vincent, as they were my fave charries and a very powerful trio. If you come back for him later and don't get him now, you will also miss a lot of things Vincent has to say and will lose care for him as a character if you don't get him soon enough. So if you can't beat the boss, train and train again until you can and then go get Vincent. Like Palazzo said, Choco/Mog and Aeris' Seal Evil have a good chance of stopping the boss dead in his tracks, allowing you to pummel away at him.

So yes, you should bother.

Go get Vincent. I don't particularly remember the boss fight before you get him, but he is definately worth it. He was a permanant member of my party as well. His Limit Breaks are unreal.

You truly do not know what you're missing.

You are just about half away through the disk. Getting Vincent is a definite plus. I don't understand why your characters cannot beat "Lost Number". The boss you were having trouble with. It could be that you are having more trouble with his red form than his purple form. Basically what happens, is that when you get his life down to a certain point <let's say halfway>. What kind of attack you use will determine wich form you face. For example: If you push him iver the halfway point with a magical attack, you will face the far easier red form. If , however, you use a physical attack, you will face the much more brutal purple form. In either case, the best startegy is regular attacks, rigged limit breaks (via hypers), summons, and espeacially poison= the gift that keep on giving every round. An you should have no trouble getting a very power, very helpful character. Hope that helps. Please lemme know you results, and I will be happy to help you tweak them as well.

Thanks for the help guys. I used a lot of magical attacks at first (and aeris' seal evil proved very useful) which got him to his red side and i was quite surprised how Tifas Beat Rush (yeah/yeah) and 3 attacks from Cloud (with aeris healing) killed it so fast. Too bad Lost Numbers last attack kiled Tifa and Aeris didnt get her turn to heal her before Cloud killed him, tifa didnt get the EXP but now i have Vincent (have yet to go to the basement actually) so its all cool.

Again thanks for the help everyone
