What was Cait Sith doing with a Transform Materia when you first get him in the Golden Saucer anyway?

It would have mae more sense to have him already equipped with the Manipulate Materia... (as well as being another oh-so subtle clue about being a spy controlled from Shin-Ra headquaters by Reeve of the Turks, ie. being a toy that was "Manipulated" by someone.)

She's more of a Ninja than a theif, and she has the "Throw" Materia.

Red XIII comes equipped with the Fire Materia too.

Cait Sith has nothing to do with the Chocobos, he's not even a real Moogle.

...thats precisely the point. It's flawed logic all the way around. The Materia you get with a new character is just a little bonus. It doesn't have to really make any sense so long as its something you might not have. In Red XIII's case the fire wasn't really the new materia, it was the 'All' materia that was important.

Probably the real reason Cait had the Transform materia was because you were about to enter an area (forests around and between Gonga and Cosmo Canyon) where monsters had abilities that could turn you into a Frog (Frog Jab and Frog Song) and they wanted you to have a way to nullify this aside from Maidens Kiss. It's as good a reason as any...it doesn't have to fit the character.

But the Transform Materia only had the "Mini" status available at first level, besides which you'd already have picked up a Transform Materia from the Corel railroad tracks.

Although you have a valid point, and Cait Sith's Transform did only need 1'000 more AP to get to level 2. But 1'000 AP would have taken a very long time to win from the battles around the Gongaga region.

I would also have commented on how I'd have given Aeris a Cure Materia already equipped, but then I realised that it just wasn't important considering the very nature of her Limit Breaks negate the need for her to already have a Cure Materia equipped on her.
