I went with Command Materia. It helped me out more than anything. With Slash All/x2 and x4 cut/Enemy Skill/Mime. Those helped me out manly on Weapons. I use magic alot to. I don't use the summons that much.
I use the other Materia as much as I use Summons.

I'm fairly impressed with this thread and the responses, a lot of variance here.
I went with Support Materia. All the materia is good, that is true, however one becomes better when attached to another. So with that said, you can do a lot of crazy things with Support considering it's meant to attach with other materia.

I reckon Independent Materia. You get to a stage in the game where you can practically finish the game with Independent only combos. Admittingly hard when you're up against Sephiroth and the Weapons... but it can kick everything else's asses.

I like the Magic Materia. Magic is a very useful thing to have in the game. You can heal your party when their HP is low or just use black magic to hit enemies with a certain element. Support Materia is useful a well a lot of the time.

dude and dudettes by far the best materia is the summon because ive pulled so many wins out my ass its funny... liek emrald weapon: Very Hard....Not impossible just very hard one time i had all my members died and I litterally got so pissed off i threw the controller down and started cursing out teh T.V. then i forgot about my final attack materia equiped with phoenix (srry bout spelling) summon and save mi characters and whooped emrald weapons ass! Whew... thats why summons are awesome...

support is good but what is support without something to support that is why i think summon is the best
