I agree with Diddy. VIII was better for me as well. I liked the GFs and there were so many of them. Also I junctioning system had its many positives. You could get strong really early in the game and there were many options to improve your stats. Also the graphics were better. Finally I liked some of the characters more than FFVII characters. I won't talk about the negatives of VIII because my vote is for VIII.

My vote goes for Final Fantasy VIII

I prefer Final Fantasy VIII. I didn't finish VII because I got bored with it after a while. It had a nice storyline and cool characters but I just think VIII was just a better game all together. VIII was the first FF game I ever played so obviously it is going to be one of my favourites. The storyline was amazing and I loved all the characters. A few characters in VII got on my nerves and once Aeris was killed off, I just didn't want to play it anymore. I gave up and haven't played it since, maybe I'll start playing it again soon.

I agree %100 with you, Final Fantasy VIII was the first FF game I ever played too so it has a special place into my heart. But this is not the only reason, the story line are better, the FMV are amazing, The battle system is easier and the sound effects are awesome.

i have always been more partial to vii. viii was okay, i didnt really care for it really besides the gf system. vii definetly would be my choice

Final Fantasy 8, in my opinion, is a lot better than Final Fantasy 7. The battle system and the story line are what really caught my interests. It was a really good game if you beat it from beginning to end.

of course ff VII is beter than VIII the story line was more compelling the battles were more fun to fight and you could customise your characters alot more than 8 and the magic system was a hell of alot better.

and music wise it was amazing to completely better than 8 it gave the places more of a feel toward them

I liked FF8 a lot more. Most people like FF7 because it was their first RPG. Final Fantasy Tactics was my first final fantasy RPG. FF8 had good character depth and I loved all the places and the music. It had a special feeling to it. Final Fantasy 7 was simple. The dialog in the game was something I myself could write. The only thing about FF7 that impressed me was that Gold/Golden Saucer place and Sephiroth's theme song.

Ok. I now have FFVII (finally and again) and FFVIII. I haven't got into FFVIII because it seems longer to complete then FFVII. It's graphics seem like it come offa Resident Evil (the 1st one). I like how they start you off with pretty nice things like GF (summons in FFVII tongue), Magic and the benefits you get offensive and defensively, and the junction system. Those are the only bright sides I see coming out from that game. I can't really critize it until I have a whack at it.

But (even tho typical), my vote is for FFVII cause it took a hold of me at first sight of it. It's graphics aren't well as FFVIII (except for the cinemas and the cutscenes), but it actually makes me enjoy walking around training and gives me a couple laughs instead off doing all that and being bored with it. What's the point playing the game then? The music is incredible and the characters. The battle system is awesome and it's different from each FF series. Rigorous side-quests and fun-filling mini games. Not to mention the Planet's Not so easy to boot WEAPONS. What else do I have to explain???? Also, it was my first playstation game played.

OK. I've finished VIII and I still prefer VII over it. I mean, don't get me wrong. FFVIII was a damn good RPG but, I'm not into that lovey duvey BS.... at all. Squall was a cold character and Lionheart was the shit. But I would rather have Cloud be someone I'd hang with instead of an introverted dude who don't really give a shit about nobody but a female. And at that, at least Cloud changed. He would have my back regardless. As far as Cloud and Tifa's relationship, there's no need for an explanation. They're meant to be together. Can't yall tell by the SL? Aeris was born for one reason and that wasn't to be with Cloud.

Lemme break this down.

Character's: VII vs. VIII= VII

FFVII's: VII has too many characters that's memorable to me then VIII's. FFVII broke down every character's bio and lifestory. For some of the characters, they weren't explained from when they were little but they at least gave you a decent image of their lifeline.

FFVIII's: Not so much. Rinoa was a big part of the story but as far as being part of the group as an individual character, she had no relevence. How can you hold a character dear to you when you don't even know how they came to be? I mean at least a good depiction of some part of their life. I mean, they explained some characters fully, others partially, and a couple others none. It made NO kind of sense to me......

Battle system- VII vs. VIII = tie

FFVII's: The materia system improves your battle's tempo. I killed Emerald in less than ten minutes by having my characters equipped with mastered Counter Attacks and two of them with Mime so they can repeatedely use their LB's (take that Aura! ).

FFVIII's: The junction system increased your team deadliness. one person could be a speedy powerhouse, while another could make an enemy regret being pummeled by their magic. VERY well done Battle System.

Music- VII vs. VIII = FFVII

FFVII's: 7 made me feel as if I was IN the game, running right beside Cloud. It made my gaming enviroment all the better ! The orchestra was done magnificently and fit perfectly for VII.

FFVIII's: I don't like love story's like that. It might cut it for the people who's always surrounded by love or have somebody who they might relate to but I don't. Sorry, didn't even cut it halfway for me.

Bosses- VII vs. VIII = FFVII

FFVII's: The diffuculty is how you make it out to be. If you want a long and engaging battle with your enemy's, don't train in preparation for them. To me, diffuculty is what makes a game all the better (not entirely, it's how YOU enjoy it).

FFVIII's: Really, all you have to do is draw 100 of a strong spell and you can kill almost everybody (EXCEPT Ultima and Omega). To me, the junction system benefited you TOO much.

Storyline- VII vs. VIII = FFVII

FFVII's: It made complete sense to you IF you paid attention to it's story. It was clear that who was causing all the conflict was Jenova. Sephiroth was at the Northern Crater when Cloud had given him the Black materia and IF you was interpreting what Hojo was saying, then you'd know it was that alieniated abomination.

FFVIII's: Was not clear whatsoever. The only two thoughts came to me to figure out who was Ultimecia. She was Edea in the future (proving that Squall or anybody else in that case stopped her in her takeover) or she came from a corner out of space like Jenova did.

Ending- VII vs. VIII= FFVIII

FFVII's: Was a little to short and easy for me. Safer-Sephiroth was hard but easy at the same time. The dungeon should've been a tad bit longer and Jenova should've been stronger.

FFVIII's: I like how they sealed all of your capabilites in battle, rendering you almost useless. You had to fight bosses in Ultimecia's castle to unlock them, working your way up each one.

So in the end, FFVII wins 4-1! FFVIII is good but it has too many parts in the game and story that I dislike unlike FFVII's. FFVII was more fluent while FFVIII was meh and .

I have to say FFVII was better it's the story the battling and how things worked that kept me coming back but with FFVIII it was different i just can't get over how the same Cloud and Squall were and the battle system (though original i'll give u that) just bored me and took WAY more time then the FFVII so time battle just annoyed me more beyond words.

but i did enjoy more characters in 7 then i did 8

FFVII is better. FFVIII is not "technoPunk" enough for me or whatever the term is. Its to modern where more people have cars and guns and stuff where the world wasn't in so much peril with varying cities. Ultimecia was shit it was almost overkill with her super time powers. That and she was just a stupid witch from the future to just come out and F things up from what I remember.

People may say VII is "overrated" but wouldn't you think there is a reason why so many people like it? isn't there a reason why it has so many sequels/prequels and a feature length movie? It's because it is epic, great and a prime game for its time. Its supply and demand and I don't see to much FFVIII junk flying around and that says to me at least that the majority of FF players that care for more then graphics/technological advances that they couldn't possibly have at its time, love it for its characters, story and a little bit of sentimentality or something.
