I believe it's about £57. I've seen it in game stores for sometimes $20-$25... so about £12 to £14.

FFVII is the ultimate FF game ever made. I must say that I was sorely disappointed with FFVIII. I think that if it had been released as a separate game with the name Gunblade or something to that effect that as a stand alone it would have been great.

However, Square during one of their less lucid moments put the Final Fantasy name on it, and in doing so set the expectations for the game. Unfortantely the story and finished product fell way short of what we old skoolers have come to expect from the final fantasy legacy. Now in Square's defense it was their first attempt at a next gen game and that is why I don't hold it against them so much.
Though I have to say that Squall Leonheart was the most annoying character ever to grace the Final Fantasy genre!

I would have to say that Final Fantasy VIII is better. I enjoyed the plot development more and the characters. I'm stopping there becasue I could go on forever, it does have its weakness though, like the magic system and what not. But, the story actually has an ending unlike VII. Most people will tell you that VII is better but I have a theory about why that is. Final Fantasy VII was the first game of its calibur to appear for and game system. It used what was at the time, advanced graphics and gameplay. Most people like that game better because that is the first game of its type they played. People are usually more loyal to things that they started with. I like Final Fantasy VII dont get me wrong, but they killed Aeris, and even after Advent Children, I'm still left wondering, does Cloud get with Tifa or what!? I mean he like Aeris, but he like Tifa too, and Aeris is kinda out of play right now don't you think?

Lol, I think that was the last thing on my mind while playing Final Fantasy VII. Cloud didn't really care, nor did I.

The game, then-technology, or the first PS FF title had nothing to do with my chosing FF:VII as my favorite. It simply just had a storyline that was so well thought out and different from other Final Fantasys. It's the best "save the planet" type RPG I've ever played, IMO.

I just wish it was longer. You spend a lot of time in Midgar, and once you're out completing the rest of the discs is a breeze. Nonetheless, FF:VII remains my favorite, and I'm sure it always will be -- considering I haven't enjoyed any Final Fantasy since IX. Final Fantasy VIII is in close running for my second favorite with Final Fantasy IX though... then Final Fantasy VI.

Edit:
(Off-topic, but Secret of Mana had a good "Save the planet" story too!)

I have noticed that some people were disappointed with Final Fantasy VIII...why? I thought it was a wonderful game. The only thing that I disliked about it was the junction system but I got used to that after a while. I never finished VII so I don't know what the ending was like. My friend told me that the ending for VII was nothing special. VII had a nice storyline but I believe it is overrated. It's not my favourite FF game. It was a really good game (well what I played) but not the greatest RPG to face the earth! I even prefer VI to VII. VIII had a nice sotryline, nice group of characters and the weapons were great. I don't see why it's so disappointing. You guys have your own opinions though!

If they remade FFVII for PS2, my opinion of it would probably different. I think it would be a great game if it was remade. No sequels but just a remake. I think I need to finish the game, I haven't played any in AGES! Okay, I've said enough for now lol.

ff7 is so cliche. omg. sephiroth is the typical bad guy. cloud is the typical SOLDIER (has anyone seen that movie?). there's an evil corporation in the future destroying the earth. paging 1989. like we haven't seen that before. i do love the characters though, if anything FF: AC made me nostalgic. i don't care too much about battle systems. FF8 is the better game in my opinion.

yah i know that was the last thing on his mind but it just would have "completed" the story more for me (im a 16yr old boy, we think about girls every 3.5 seconds and the FF series is famous for its love stories). and what i said about my theory didnt mean you personally, i just meant people in general lol. idk im not trying to dictate what anyone thinks, i just like VIII better, and i hope they sequel it if they went to the trouble of sequeling X and VII, which i liked, i got X and X-2 and i got advent children but its in japanese with subs like most of my anime.

I like 8 much better. 8 has a much better storyline, and better music than 7. 7's materia system is much easier to use than 8's junction system, but I think that junctioning is more fun and actually takes some thinking at times. It's also one of the less frustrating systems because you have the option of modding cards or wizard stones if you don't want to draw magic. One of the things that I hated about 7 was that they killed off the best character with the best limit breaks and never brought her back 7 I feel has more personality as far as how the characters interact and what happens when you talk to people. Even so, I still think 8 is better because it was more fun, and an overall better game.

Final Fantasy VIII is way better, VII is the most popular one because of all the spin-offs; like Advent Children, Before Crisis and Dirge of Cereberus. You know what I mean? But I thought the characters were a wee bit better in VIII then in VII and the story line was a bit better.
