Usually in all my FF VI playthroughs, I would teach all my characters as much magic as possible(with the exception of Umaro and Gogo for obvious reasons and Relm and Gau since I don't use them.) I plan to take a different approach on my next playthrough. Instead of teaching everyone Magic, I'm only gonna choose certain characters and make them proficient in a certain type of magic. For example, I plan to make Setzer proficient in Black Magic, Relm(yeah, I plan to play with her in my next playthrough) in White Magic and Time Magic, Celes in White Magic, and Terra in both Black and White Magic. The rest of my characters will stick with their job abilities, physical attacks, and relics that make the characters act their job(Edgar equipping Dragoon boots and Dragon Horn relics to make him into a Dragoon, Sabin with a relic that makes him counter, Locke with a Mug command, etc.) So should I bother trying this approach or should I stick with the approach I've always used? Inventory | I do that in every single Final Fantasy I play. Especially in VI, VII and VIII. It's a lot more fun to play it like that. In VIII I am lvl29 at a little bit after half way of disk3. It is harder and more fun.

| It's a good strat, but it will make the game just drag on more than it needs to. If you wanna try something different and kinda fun, you could min-max each character if you want. This involves getting good good espers that gives bonus stats (Zoneseek- +2 magic power/levelup) on characters who have less then the desired amount of that stat (like Sabin), and make each character as strong as you possibly can. That is what I am working on this playthrough, and I have found that so far Terra and Celes are looking to be very promising characters indeed, due to their high amount of Mblock and equipment choices. | ||||||||||||

Inventory | Yes it does drag it out. But for me I mainly keep it as simple as this. EX Setzer - Give him Time Magic, mainly...haste (his main job) Second, give me a few black magic spells and some white as well. He can help dish out dmg as well as throwing in a heal or two to keep people alive for the main white mage to cast the big heal. Sabin - Mainly I keep Espers on him that increase his Vigor at each lvl up. But magic I mainly give him a few low black magic spells (he will probably have Fire if you have +1 Vigor Esper on him). As well as giving him Raise and Esuna(Remedy?). Making him one of the main melee users he will have high hp indeed. If it gets bad he can raise and cure stuff. Terra - We all know what Terra is, the black mage. I keep her black magic at the best you can get her main focus but I also she has at least mid healing spells. She is a great Red Mage. Those are what my main party looks like on most of the characters in my VI game. (I have separate groups with characters with their own main part in the group. Most of it is spread out like this. Cyan and Shadow have Raise as well they are built like Sabin. Strago and Mog are set up like Setzer, as well as Gau from time to time. Relm is built like Terra and Celes but her main focus is Time Magic. Celes is focused mainly on White Magic then Black Magic. Edgar is also built in White Magic. His tools is great for dmg when it is needed, so I give him Healing and he is awesome. Locke is built different. He is my main stealing man, but also I build him with Vigor at lvl Espers as well. But I gave him White and Time Magic as well. His white magic is around mid lvl. His Time is mainly uses for casting Slow and some of the other Time Magic spells. He is like the character who does the side things first before going all out with his huge dmg from raising Vigor up at lvl up. Gogo I actually haven't got yet in the game rofl I am killing all dragons I can before Kefka tower and then I'm getting GoGo. (As well as Locke :x) That is how I build my characters in my VI game. P.S. Now that I look at it, that isn't that simple.

| Reproducing is fun. | I say go for it. Also low level challenges make for an interesting play through. Plus there is the devious WoR challenge where you play the rest of the game with the characters that have to be in your party only, no going out and getting others, Edgar Setzer and Celes. But really do what ever makes the game fun for you, that is the point of it right? If you do decide to go through with it, keep us posted on how things are going. | ||||||||

Inventory | I like the idea of doing challenges like this. It makes the game play become rejuvinated! When it comes to the older games, really this is what it is all about. There are a great many new-ish games that are great to play through. When you are done, though, there is never a desire to revisit them. Meier brings up a good idea. One I've heard of, and even considered attempting. Perhaps the time has come for me to do this...once I get around to finishing my Final Fantasy I challenge I have underway, that is...>< I do like your concept of "specialization" with the characters. It would certainly add to the uniqueness of each character even more. Hmm...

Inventory | Relm has the highest base Magic stat, I believe, so it might be more worth your while to make her your designated BM of choice...*shrugs*

Inventory | You should try doing the CES play through (that is a play through playing just as celes, edgar and setzer), you get a slightly different change in the ending. I think there's a Walkthrough for it on gamefaqs.
