Who is Gogo?

Okay. I haven’t seen a thread where this question is being asked, and it’s one of the most controversial aspects of the game. This thread deals with the question “Who is Gogo?”

First, lets see what Final Fantasy VI has to say about Gogo.

"Shrouded in odd clothing... is this a man...? ...a woman...? ...or should we ask...?"

Ok, so we now know that the game doesn’t confirm Gogo as a man or a woman, possibly not even human. There have been theories, from the fans, who have collective evidence from the game, proving which character Gogo may be. I’m going to list the more popular theories that I've found from Final Fantasy Wiki.

Daryl, in theory, died when her airship had crashed. However, we don’t know if her body was ever founded, it could be just Setzer’s assumption that she had died. We do know that a tomb was built for her. An evidence that goes with this is she crash on the triangle island, where you find Gogo. Keep in mind; she died in the world of balance, so it isn’t sure if it is the same land, since the continents have been rearrange. Sounds plausible, but let us look at this way. After Kefka owned Gestahl and then thrown him off the flowing continent, he would have fallen hundreds, if not thousands, of miles down from the floating land. No one is sure whether he had fallen into the ocean, or on land. If he had fallen into the ocean, then it could of been possible that he would of been washed up on the triangle island. But what if something had happen to him when the world of balance had transcended into the world of ruin?

This could be possibly true. However, it isn’t sure whether it is an actual Zone Eater or just a sandworm.

Yet another common theory is that Gogo is Shadow/Clyde's former partner, Baram. Through Shadow's dreams, you are brought to assume that Baram is dead, though you never actually see it happen.

It would seem that Corpus Delicti plays a role in these theories, as we’re not too sure whether these characters have died or not.

Again, sounds plausible, but Baram wore an eye patch in the world of balance, and Gogo doesn’t.

One theory that is essentially illogical, but still of note for completion's sake, is that Gogo is actually General Leo. Support for this is little, far between, and some could even say nonexistent. A more likely theory along the same lines is that he is Biggs or Wedge, but, surprisingly, the General Leo one is far more popular.

This one actually differs from other theories, as we now know that Leo did actually died (the characters, themselves, had buried him.) So, unless Leo magically came to life, this theory is out the window.

It could be possible that Biggs or Wedge could be Gogo, but they were seen only using magic from the technology, not actual magic being cast like Terra and Celes.

Notice the colorful towels Vargas wears close to his waist, which, somewhat, looks similar to Gogo’s own colorful attire.

Unless Gogo was taught by the same master Sabin and Vargas had, then this is one of the most possible theories.

One very, very possible theory is that Gogo is Banon. You never see what happens to him in the World of Ruin, and there are many similarities between the two characters in appearance.

This is extremely accurate, as they do appear to be wearing almost identical clothing, and no one seems to know what happen to Banon. We do know that Banon can caste magic (just healing in the world of balance) so, it could be possible that over time, Banon would eventually know more about magic. However, for him to be able to know Sabin’s blitz techniques, makes it less likely.

Like it said, this theory was out the window when Gilgamesh became an esper. Nothing more what is already been said.

Again, this theory is accurate. The Gogo in FF V does have the ability to mimic, like Gogo in FF VI. He falls into a space time warp, which could possibly transport him into different universe. Not only that, they do share the same name, however, having the same names doesn’t actually make them related, but it helps the theory. It is like saying that all the Cids are the same, or maybe? (That is another theory.)

Despite all these theories, it is possible that Gogo is Gogo, just another odd character in the Final Fantasy universe. But is Gogo a male? A female? Or is it even human?

Just a recurring character that ended up only appearing in 2 games (though the male Mime in FFT also kinda has his costume). Everything else sounds far too outlandish & isn't really supported by very solid evidence (if any at all).

They were talking about Gerad (Edgar) when they supposed that their leader was eaten by the worms (because he had "disappeared" [more like they were lazy with their looking for him, really] after the battle).

Who is GoGo?

There has been a massive topic over this in the past but seeing that it has been so long since it has been posted into and the fact that it has been moved into the C.o.D. (this is why I should be mod over the C.o.D. lmao j/k) I guess it is time for a new version of this game and fresh perspectives. I will not poll this question.

I think that gogo is gogo. Not the gogo from V but just a character with a simular name. Umero has no back story but yet his origins haven't been discussed to need less ends.

I kind of like the fact that there is no explination for him. Because it does raise the question of who he is, and maybe that is the whole purpose of him.

But as for being Bannon I could not see this being so, Bannons magics could not of advanced that fast over a short period of time.

Darryl - still unlikely Setzer is sure she is dead. Why else would he erect a tomb for her. Even though it never confirmed the body was found it also never confirmed it was't found. But if Gogo was anyone this would probably be one of the higher probabilities.

Emperor Gestahl - Even if he was to survive the fall, he would be a cripple. Even if he landed in water the impact at that speed would probably rip the flesh from his bones and shatter his back.

General Leo - He's dead get over it...

Biggs and Wedge - dead and dead just like in VII.

So like I said I think gogo is just gogo, nothing more.

Interesting theories, some of them I have never even heard before. I always believed that Gogo was some kind of programmer's character that eventually got to be like a running joke in the department so they would throw him in at certain unexplainable parts of the game. Like FF5 for instance, in order to get the mime job, you have to sit underwater and battle Gogo for the crystal. Similar questions, like "Who is Gogo? why does he have the crystal? how can he breathe underwater indefinitely? etc." have ran through my mind, but I have come to the realization that Gogo is just himself, and like the monologue of Gogo says ("should we even ask...?"), we simply dont know why he/she is helping us, but they are, and we should be happy!

I've heard about these theories before. I personally think Gogo is just Gogo, like Translanka, Meier, and Rocky said. It is fun to think of him as someone else though. I would love to hear his real backstory. Square should make one for him. ^^

I don't know if it's really anyone other than a rogue wanderer who happens to find a cause to fight or something to believe in at the moment. It would make sense it could be any of the other people but it seems they would have hinted more heavily towards it than having it be so mysterious to the bitter end.

About one of the things mentioned in here...I recall a fanfic making an interesting link between two people (it goes further than that, but I wanted to recall that little mixture), where the singer Maria (the singer whom Celes replaces) was actually Darryl after the accident.

Why that little tidbit of info which seems to be unrelated? Because it may help dispel (or scramble) one of the options, and because it tends to point out how much FFVI seems to form interesting NPCs, enough to make people look at their backgrounds and forming conjectures around it. Such as the background of Gogo.

I do presume that Gogo is and isn't the FFV character. Imagine it as Gogo being, say, the Eternal Champion (essentially, a person who has the same mission and holds similar shape, name, and sometimes dressing in every single universe). AKA, the sprite, the battle sprite, and the powers copied from FFV data, but altered to FFVI standards. That, or it's a homage to the sprite producer, who might have wanted to have Gogo as a playable character, despite having no reason why to exist.

The fact there are some ends who simply refuse to be tightened may be mere coincidence, the kind that doesn't appear in real life.

Dun dun dun.... woah.

Since we are on the topic of throwing around ideas of who Gogo really is let me run this one past you, there is no real way to disprove this theary, lets assume for a minute that Gogo is no other then.... Gogo from FFVI, hear me out on this one. Ok we know there was a War of the Magi, correct? well what if Gogo is the only other thing in VI that is could possibly be left from that war. Being contained in ZoneEater and with the war over maybe he lost his reasoning to fight. And possibly the time space contigencies do not apply while inside the monster, hence why he is still alive, this is a good posibility seeing if you get eaten by anyother thing you are poo.

Ooooo a conspiracy is at foot here, and since I am throwing out what if's. What if when SE decides to make a prequal to VI they include him since he is only one of the 2 characters with out a true back story??!?!?!? He wouldn't have to be a main character but it is a possibility!
