Locke is with Terra or Celes?

Jeez, am I slow or what. All this time I've been confused about who Locke pretty much ended up with at the end of the game. However, after reading several of the posts here it seems everyone else pretty much saw the Celes and Locke coupling as clear as day while I was still contemplating as to whether Terra was actually Locke's main love interest.

It's been a while since I've played the game but what scenarios in the game made it really made the coupling of Locke and Celes so obvious to you?

Most of the scenarios that clear the relationship between Locke and Celes have the song that Celes sung as background (albeit instrumental). It should be pretty obvious from before that: heck, you can even see the hint right when Locke and Celes meet for the first time.

If you see closely when Locke and Terra are traveling towards Thamasa, her feelings are actually closer to General Leo than to Locke or any of the males in her own party. As well, pay attention to when they are about to face the Tower of Kefka. The hints that clear the mutual relationship are scarce, but pretty evident.

I'll take more notice of that next time I play the game.

I guess it's really the first scenario and meeting between Locke and Terra that is really engraved in my head. When he first meets up with her I saw sparks flying and that scene has pretty much been the most recognizable scene in Final Fantasy VI for me.

Or maybe it's just wishful thinking that's been deluding me. LOL. I would have rather seen Terra and Locke as I find that coupling just overall more compatible and interesting than Celes and Locke for some strange reason.

When you get close to the end of the World of Balance when you meet General Leo. The scene on the boat with Terra and Leo. She wants to learn from him, she asks him if she will ever love. I'm not sure if she really "loved" him, but she looked up to him in order to seek answers for herself.

Yeah, the Terra/Leo pairing has always been a stretch...Terra's only love in the game is motherly, and I think that's awesome and unique.

I think the whole opera sequence helped to cement the Celes/Locke coupling...along with their trip to see Rachel earlier...Then the bandanna on the seagull in the WoR inspiring Celes to go on (don't give me that Cid could have lived crap either)...

Actually, last time I remember, Cid *can* live. Remember, the Yummy Fish.

Unless you speak of intentionally killing Cid to move the story faster, and the famous suicide attempt (people, this game has some serious content, unlike some other games...)

Also, V, thanks for reminding me the Rachel sequence. I was a bit confused whether some feelings poured upon the event. The opera wasn't that crucial as the moments afterward. The greatest link, at best, is the leitmotif (the songpiece that "defines" the character) which uses the tune of the opera. The opera itself is more of a funny moment, where the daring adventurer (Locke) saves the damsel in distress (Celes, impersonating Maria) from the chaos ensued by Ultros, and then Setzer's, interruption. The act grinded to a halt, so Locke had to improvise. The latter events are the ones that do help solidify the relationship.

Remember, Locke is a softy for lonely women, so it's natural to think he would end up with Terra, but eventually he realizes that while Terra has the support of the entire party, Celes' icy manners were a bit more of a challenge.

Locke is really just a sucker for helping people (girls or otherwise) who get screwed over by the Empire...at the time, I'm sure seeing Terra who had fallen down a hole in a cave brought back memories of Rachel...otherwise they don't really interact as much as Locke does with Celes.

I always wanted it to be Locke and Terra, but it's pretty obvious it's Locke and Celes. Or, at best, it's a love triangle between the three. I always thought when Terra was first turned to an Esper and Locke promised to help her, that solidified the relationship between Locke and Terra, but events throughout the end of the world of balance and the world of ruin suggest otherwise.

Locke and Celes are the ones together. You can kinda see how they play them together where their stories cross. I've heard alot of people wanted it the other way around with Terra but I felt it made the most sense to go and stick with Celes...for the win?

I thought it was going to be Locke and Terra together when I first played which I thought was great but then Celes came around and then it was those two. For a while I wasn't happy with that because I thought that Locke and Terra would make a better couple but I reckon it's cool now. Celes is a great character, as is Locke and I think they make a sweet couple overall.

OK here is my take on the whole thing, Locke has feeling for Celes let me get that out of the way.

First off, the reason I feel that Locke is so die hard to protect both of them is because of the whole Rachel thing. I know that he blames himself for the current state that she is in and doesn't want any harm to come to Celes or Terra because he feels that he has already failed one woman.

Now I think his heart still truely lies with Rachel, why else would he be in Pheonix Cave in the WOR. He is trying to get the Pheonix Esper so that he can revive Rachel and amend his sins and bring back his lost love.

After Pheonix fails at its attempt I beleive his feelings for Celes grow stronger but still not matching what he feels for Rachel.

In the end he settles for something that is within his grasps, which would be Celes leaving Terra out of the picture.
