This guy is still working on the engine, which is why the teaser looks so primitive, but so far, he has a lot done with the engine and has updated about a week ago, so it's still going real strong. Keep an eye on it before Square squashes it!

I was going to say, if he plans on making it 3D, he shouldn't show anything on it until it's done. Otherwise, Square will send him a cease-and-desist order faster than you can say "Chocobo." We had the same thing from Konami when I used to frequent a CastleVania forum. Strange that they didn't seem to care about the 2D games that were "being made," though few actually got finished.

I appreciate the MP3 used. That's one I had a looooooooooooooong time ago, but lost in the chaos of the death of a hard drive. Nice to hear it again.

so yeah that was pretty tight, but really not much to it yet. hope we get to see more of it before it gets shut down!

There were people working on a 3D conversion of Chrono Trigger at one point in time, but they got a cease-and-desist from SE once they found out. Which I really don't see why, people aren't trying to sell these as their games, they're actually just giving homage to the originals (and giving some of us what we'd love to see, I <3 sprites too, but damnit, sometimes it's just NICE to see things in 3D). The people that were working on Chrono Trigger had it looking just as good as Dragon Quest 8, but alas,that got squashed. ;_;

It's because if people play the 3D Chrono Trigger, those are people (hypothetically speaking) that could instead be playing Square's version. If that version came out, then it would eliminate the need for anyone to ever buy Chrono Trigger again (or at least in Square's eyes, until they remade it yet again), which is why all decent "homebrew" games always get cease-and-desists from the real companies.

Same thing with FFVI. If this version gets near finished and is free (which it would have to be since the creator doesn't own the copyright), then people would be playing that game instead of any of the reincarnations of FFVI which they'd have to pay for. No royalties for Square = a problem. Even if die-hard FFVI fans who own every version of the game were to play this one and Square would be losing no money whatsoever, there's no way for Square to tell, and better safe than sorry.

Anyways, I dunno how alive this babe is as the last files were uploaded around a year ago, but try checking this project out.

Well, there isn't much to judge on the teaser, but the clouds look funny.

About the cease and desist...if the 3D images are well-defined, and the idea gains great popularity, then maybe FFVI will get a DS remake. Since the reason why FFIV has an upgrade is because of the celebration of the 15 years of the series (doesn't that mean...wait, they must have renovated it...actually, the limit is 60 years so skip it), the idea of having an upgrade for even the first or second games, let alone VI, is hard to conceive. Yet, if the idea grows in popularity, we may be feasted with an upgrade. After all, the remake of FFIV is raising the bulk of eyebrows...

But then again, S-E often acts like a...well, you know how it acts. It bleeds Cloud to death with loads and loads of sequels and movies, and cares little for the actual voice of others who might not like FFVII that much, but they insist in bleeding their spearhead game until it gets rusty, blunt and useless. Granted, the cease-and-desist order is probably being developed, but we cannot expect Squeenix to listen to the requests of the fans (like, say, new and better and original games, or not having sequels being ported to cellphones to the joy of Japan, or even continuity to series like Ogre Battle).

But, let time flow. I really want them to prove me wrong. Although...

Spoiler: if they turn Terra's hair into complete blonde, or they make her image uncute and ugly, they shall fear my retribution. Square, please, do not try to do it. Please. Well, that is, if I get the means to do so. Willing to lend an aid to a fellow TFFer?
