Kefka's Tower Bosses, Optional?

Hey guys I have a problem. I at Kefka's tower and tried tons of combinations for the 3 seprate parties, but each time I try to fight Atma Weapon I always get done in by his Ultima spell even when all my members are protected. I read in a walkthrough but not sure i should believe it that some of the bosses like the Golden Dragon are optional. Meaning it said for the Atma Fight: " If you're going to fight him just approach him, and press " X ". Do I have a choice if I can fight him or not?

Yes, the Atma (should be Ultima, stupid translation thing) Weapon at Kefka's tower IS an optional boss. The first boss battle with atma weapon at the floating island is not though.

Um..honestly I don't really remember. It's prob been 10+ years since I've beaten that game. I know most of my guys were on pretty high levels so it didn't make that big of deal. I definitely tried to balance my teams as well as possible though. If i had to guess my three teams I'd go like this.

Team 3 (Terra, Cyan, Shadow, Setzer) Team 2 (Locke, Celes, Mog, Umaro) Team 1(Edgar, Sabin, Gau, Gogo)

Basically from what i remember..i left Strago and Relm out.

Oh ok thanks. Sorry to ask so many questions but how do you beat Inferno in Kefka's tower? And how do you get Umaro in your party? Oh, and I don't have Shadow in my party anymore, is there a way to get him back?

Well Inferno..he's the boss with two claws or whatever right? I guess my best strategy would be to simply use strong magic that does damage to everyone (i.e. ultima, meteor, etc) and do the same if you have any strong espers like bahamut. Basically use strong attacks and try to focus on Inferno rather than the two claws.

As for Umaro...for one you NEED MOG in your party. Go back to Narshe and make your way through the caves to where you found Tritoch. Go down the cliff and make your way thru the caves until you find a bone statue. examine it to get the esper "terrato". You'll soon fight Yeti..beat him then talk to him after the fight and Umaro will join your team.

As for Shadow..the only way to get him in the World of Ruin is if you chose to wait and save him on the Floating Continent. If you didn't do that..then you can't get him back in your party

If you did save him though..you'll find him in the Veldt cave. He'll then return to Thamasa to recover. To get him in your party, bet a Striker at the Colosseum and you'll enter a fight with him. Win the fight and he'll join your party

I got some helpful information for you too ultima, when forming your parties make sure that they can asorb certain enemy attacks (doesn't have to be all). Your worst characters can be your best if they are the ones who can asorb certain attacks. Did you ever get the Paladin Shield? thats the best shield in the game.
