Oh FF5, let me count the ways...

So I'm currently playing through FF5 Advance for the first time. Believe it or not, I really only played through the game once via Fan-translated SNES rom years ago. Yet I've always touted as being a fan of the game (mainly music wise). Isn't that weird?

Lots of people bag on this game, saying it's one of the worst and that only the gameplay saves it. Well I was thinking of things about FF5 that really makes it stand out. Either it's the only FF that did it, or it did it first. So I thought I'd compile a list, just for kicks. Feel free to follow along and post things you think makes FF5 unique.

Oh and there be spoilers! Just thought I'd warn possible newbies!

-Excluding X-2, it's the only FF where the girls outnumber the guys in playable characters.

-The only FF to have playable sisters (Lenna and Faris)

-The only FF (if not video game) to have an arranged album based around Finnish music.

-The first FF to receive an Anime spinoff, not to mention a sequel to the story.

-Features the first appearance of the awesome Gilgamesh (he appears in later titles, but so far, only V and XII lets you fight him)

-First appearance of learnable Blue Magic

-Faris is considered to be Amano's most favored FF character design next to Tina/Terra of FFVI

-Did you know when FFX was released Square set up a poll asking fans what classic FF song they wanted to see get the vocal treatment by Sutaki de Ne singer RIKKI? Yeah Aerith's theme won on the poll, but was REALLY CLOSELY followed by Battle on the Big Bridge.

-The only FF where the sprite designs are so wildly different than Amano's artwork (yeah there are the NES games, but at least you could say cite graphic limitations, FFV there's a clear difference in artwork and not just slight changes like in FFVI). As far as the playable characters go, only Krile actually resembles her Amano artwork

-First game to feature a Cid with offspring. And so far probably the only one with such a similar name (Mid)

-First FF with a Main playable character dying. Okay before people cry foul over characters from II and IV, those were Guest characters.

-Did you know the creator of the Higurashi franchise (aka "When they cry") is a HUGE FFV fan? His pen name is Ryukishi 07 which is a Japanese pun that can be read as "Dragon Knight Reinna". He also named one of the main characters Rena after Lenna/Reina.

Well, it's the only one where you get to ride an awesome dragon around and not just an airship! Actually, this game gets THREE means of transportation: airship, submarine, AND an awesome dragon! FFIV gets a lo,t too, but no awesome dragons!^^

Actually, you can fight Gilgamesh in Final Fantasy VI, too.
It also has the first villain(ExDeath) who actually started to destroy the world instead of boasting about it. What I mean is, Chaos(didn't destroy anything), Emperor(all he did was summon Pandemonium), Xande/CoD(?), Zeromus(Nothing, really.), ExDeath(Sucked several towns into the Void, which is really mean!)
It's among the harder FFs.
Oh yeah, ExDeath was the first FF final boss to have multiple forms to fight in one go. CoD has two battles, but they're not at once. Zemus you didn't even fight.
First to introduce Mime job, among others.
Oh yeah, one of the FFs to focus on bad puns...

I love this title a lot too! Shame Nomura hugely ignores it and pays more attention to FFVII because he practically created it. Other people may think a doodle by a child is a piece of crap, but the artist always clings onto it no matter how badly it sucks or how many other times its been done before.

P.S. You forgot the other reason:

-First title to have a villain based on Central American Mythos. (aka Exdeath, also my favorite villain...)

Oops, my bad! FFV didn't have three means of transportation; it had six!
1 - Boco - Yellow Chocobo
2 - Black Chocobo
3 - Airship
4 - Hiryu
5 - Submarine
6 - Ship

I liked the comedy in FF V, the funniest game in the series.

The only game in the series where the main character got "dragged" into saving the world by seeing a meteor. How lame is that?

First game in the series to allow players to equip skills from other jobs.

First game in the series to have the grandfather and grand-daughter.

Ahhhhh... The Dragon! I loved that..

I'm playing FFV now and i'm almost done. I enjoyed the fact that I was able to see all the things I didn't think would be in it...like the airship, flying/black chocobo, the 12 legendary weapons...it's like this game has all of the main elements of a classic final fantasy. I also enjoyed the ability system and how you are able to mold your players however you like with classic RPG jobs.

I miss one point here...
For me it is the only FF in which I really wanted to stay at one place just to listen to the music. (Big bridge... aaah, that song was so awesome >//<)
Also, somehow it was the first FF I played that had a protagonist that was... happy. O.o Somehow all the others had some problems with themselves, but Bartz was so.. positive about the world. I think he even was the best protagonist of the whole FF series. (And still I have to say that I haven't played I-III yet.)

FFV was a really great game, I can't really understand why so many people dislike it. .-.

Just enter a Magic-menu and enjoy the sound.......................
And it has the best Victory Fanfare ever
all of the other sounded... oversampled or something, a little like the Title Screen Theme from Pokémon Fire Red/Leaf Gren

I would have to say FFV was one of there best final fantasy
Uts just a great game.
It haves great music
Great story line
And amazing charatcers
As your playing you can just feel the emotions of
The characters as you read and play through the story line

Plus the job system is great
How you can level them up
And use bare to combined them all.

Anyone who says its one of the worst ones
didn't even play it or just skipped throught the whole story line
